A ‘Select on create’ option would be nice, but in the meantime there’s no need to go all the way over to the ‘x’ button. If you long-press next to the curve you’ve just drawn, you’ll find a ‘Deselect’ option on the popup menu.

Thanks for confirming my suspicions, Ollie! I should have stated explicitly in my previous post that there is currently no way to restrict the source region for inpainting in Affinity Photo.

This panorama is created using several Affinity Photo tools.
Star Brushes, Pattern Layer, Equirectangular Projection.
    Steps
    1. Document with a 2:1 ratio
    2. Pattern Layer
    3. Seamless stars texture (two layers)
    4. Equirectangular Projection
    5. Replacing distorted parts (poles)
The original 4K texture was rescaled to 2K, using the "Nearest Neighbour" method.
To view the finished result in 3d space, see Blender file: Space_360.blend
This diagram explains the reason for the 2:1 aspect ratio:

In the file you supplied, you have already selected the part of the background that you want to remove, so I took that as the starting point here.  Since it's not initially selected, click the Background layer.  Delete.  And that leaves you with the transparency "behind" the part of the image that you're interested in.

Many users will have those fonts already, or not want to use them. Why bloat what is already a large download?

No, I was only referring to the colour mode (‘Lab Sliders’, ‘Grey Sliders’, ‘Colour Wheel’, etc).

Alfred reacted to h_d in Updating via Mac App store fails
Thing is that when you buy any software from Apple or Microsoft, you are their customer, not Serif's. Apple/MS transfer a proportion of the purchase price to Serif (minus marketing, distribution, tax...) and Serif benefit from world-wide distribution, marketing and sales networks that they couldn't hope to emulate themselves.
But Apple and Microsoft don't pass on customer details to the software developers, so even if they wanted to (for sentimental reasons or whatever), Serif couldn't transfer your Apple/Microsoft licence key to their own store, let alone turn you into a marketing prospect.
However, consider the case of extra content (brushes, overlays, backgrounds, macros...)
Serif could have gone down the road of in-app purchases from the Apple/MS stores for this,  but right now they ask for an optional registration to their own store for all the extra goodies. And this is a smart move, because it gives them direct access to customers who have bought their products from the Apple/Microsoft stores.
For example: I bought Photo and Designer from the Apple App Store, and Publisher from the Serif Store. I thus have an account with Serif. When Photo 1.9.0 offered me free content (fog, snow, clouds etc) I logged in to my Serif account and downloaded them. Serif now know that I have Photo, even though I didn't buy it from them. And they can target their marketing accordingly.
    Prime example of British ingenuity...

Alfred got a reaction from Henry N in Combining shapes/curves
Welcome to the Serif Affinity Forums, Henry.
Moving one of the shapes to make them overlap would reduce the overall height, which is obviously undesirable, but what you can do is to create an overlap at the join. Choose the Node Tool and drag the middle of one of the abutting straight edges so that it curves to  overlap the adjacent straight edge, and then switch to the Move Tool, select the two objects and click on the ‘Add’ button in the Geometry section of the toolbar.

@PaulEC’s method is nice and easy, and it yields a great result. If you want to make the postmark darker, simply duplicate the layer.

The issue is resolved. I just re-ran the download  updates for the AD, AP apps, and the BOTH worked as expected.

I think Ray S. probably has the best solution, but here is a way using Blend Ranges, in case you want to try it. I'm assuming all the stamps are the same, or at least single colours, if not it may be a bit trickier.

Ok, I bought the 16GB 1TB model and paid more but performance wise this is the same machine and will be just as quick for Affinity and very usable.

    I have another recipe:
Step 1: add a Black&White-Adjustment-Layer and tweak the blue/cyan-sliders to change the blue tones to light grey.

    Step 2:
Add a Levels-Adjustment-Layer. Switch to LAB-Mode and adjust the white and black-Level to get rid of the grey-tones.

    Step 3:
With Layer/Merge Visible (or cmd+alt+shift+E) make a cumulative layer. You need this to apply Filter/Colors/Erase white paper.

Step 4: Crop to taste and export as PNG to keep the transparent background.

I hope this is not too advanced, but give it a try.

A good point well made, as they say! Most of us can probably manage just fine without access to the full range of swatches, but we really should be able to choose colours from the document palette.

Yeah, my illustration above should have shown the palettes instead - see below. After I posted it, I thought using the word ‘swatches’ would trip folks up.
And the pen tool does not always default to the last setting - only when the last layer is selected before drawing... or something like that.... still can’t  got my head around what this behaviour is, tbh. What I do I know is that it constantly switches back to some default setting and I have to stop drawing in order to go switch studios around so I can access my palette and pick the colour... again.... again.
I do not get the logic of restricting access to palettes set up expressly to use to make assigning colours to objects - quick! There feels to be something fundamental Serif don’t grasp here. The point of setting up a document palette is?
A document palette becomes THE palette for the document. (Meh). It takes priority over all other colour spaces. It’s the most irritating thing about Designer right now tbh.

Fontinator which is by the creators of Vectornator
    Fontcase
Both work for me on my iPad, at least with Affinity Designer, which should tell that they work anywhere else, too 😉
