You guys are masterful! Node grab feels perfect again! A bit more precise than before but still forgiving enough to work quickly! Incredible! Thanks for actually listening to your loyal fans (unlike a certain giant faceless creative company that comes to mind...) keep up the amazing work!

Yes they are smaller. This is not good for me either. I would like to see an option to have the bigger size icons.

    Hi kaiwienen,

This is a known issue that is with development. I'll pass your comments on.

    Hi,

Thanks for letting us know, I've passed on your comments on development to reinstate the ability to switch tools using the double tap!

I reported this same thing, It works if you release your 2 finger modifier before finishing the lasso. The devs said they are going to make it work as expected.

Kind of neat! I can see where, with a little practice, it may be faster than just using the selection tool and boolean functions (which is essentially all this tool is doing).
This makes me giggle at adobe a bit though, it's a perfect example of Adobe creating functions for the sole sake of "new in this update" features instead of fixing glaring issues like the 30+ years we haven't been able to add a gradient fill to text, haha.

I liked the double tap to switch between the 2 most recent tools, it was a nice quick action... but on the otherhand, i kinda forgot about being able to double tap the pencil and for the past month or so haven't even used that gesture, haha. But per your comment above, undo is definitely not the best action for pencil double tap, its easier just to flip up the pencil and use 2 finger tap, even with the same hand as the pencil, IMO.

I find it often makes selection accuracy more difficult and with the frequent freezes is a real pain in the butt. This was discussed during beta testing and Devs agreed it was maybe not a such a good decision  having pop up with pencil. Supposed to be changed but decision made too late methinks to include in this release. At least that’s what I’m hoping.  I can't imagine Serif enjoy all the negative references to the loupe. Hopefully it will be removed (or made optional for Apple Pencil users) soon.

I can confirm this, i'm getting this popup magnification circle when using the pencil (it shouldnt appear with pencil input) and at very inopportune times (node tool modifier, also cannot select multiple nodes when it pops up).
I agree this should be a toggle we can turn off system wide, pencil users have no use for it.

Put on your foil hats, i have a theory!!!!
I have a similar issue with the Apple Pencil when using the pen tool when tapping out really tight points. I made a thread about it, linked below. It appears to be a quirk with the way the app recognizes inputs from the apple pencil.
My theory is the apple pencil isn't set precisely enough and taps from the pencil are acting like a fat finger input with a radius around the point where the apple pencil input is recorded, Affinity then treats the apple pencil tap like a finger input and estimates what it should do based on where it thinks a finger should have tapped based on that radius instead of the exact point where the pencil actually tapped.  This appears to be why I'm having a pen issue, and could also be causing the selection tool issue too.
Per my link below, it's possible to see the weirdness im talking about. Drawing tight points with the pen tool, you can't put nodes close together, instead the selection radius grabs the adjacent node within a set boundry around my pencil tap instead of plotting a new point. Same thing is probably happening with the selector tool, the selection might be estimated instead of precise, even though the apple pencil is accurate enough to not need need that selection radius...
It's just a throught, it only appears to affect tap input from the pencil (selecting, tapping out a point, selecting a single node, etc) and not actual pencil drawing input, which is very accurate. It may just be the pencil settings are emulating a finger tap.
OK, crazy time is over now. Time to get back to antivaxxing, fake moon landings and chemtrails! hahahhahahha!

I've made some improvements for tablets and iOS pen.  These will come out very soon - either on the day we release Publisher, or sooner as a 1.7.1 release.

Sorry for multi-posting on my own thread, but i was mulling this over last night and thought of a novel approach to solving this issue.  Illustrator has a selectable point/handle size adjustment made for pen/touch screen input for wacom users. This approach would likely solve the precision issue, given the main issue is that the target nodes and handles are very small for pen point input. Thoughts?

TonyO reacted to Pollicina in New option: Change icons size
    Hi to everyone
as suggested by @TonyO, will be useful a configurable option to change the icon size. I understand the intentional choice design but I found the icons too small in my iPad Pro 10.5”. Give us the opportunity to change independently the icons size, thanks so much!

I kind of agree with this, on the 12.9 pro, the icons, points and handles were all a perfect size. I understand this change on smaller iPads, but the 12.9 wasn’t hurting for screen real estate. A user configurable option for this would be stellar.

    Hi Pollicina,

As DM1 has mentioned this was indeed an intentional design choice. However as TonyO has mentioned a configurable option would be a nice idea, so worth posting into the improvements forum!

The finger magnification tool is appearing when using Apple Pencil input with the node tool. This previously only appeared on finger input and feels awkward when it appears on pencil input since you can already see what you’re doing.

It would be nice to have some sort of on-screen nudge option.  Perhaps a video game D-Pad on the bottom context bar while the move tool is selected. That would be really nice to tap with the pencil.
Something like this would be great!

TonyO got a reaction from CartoonMike in Scale tool
It would probably be more useful to add some of these scaling methods as improvements to the current move and node tools as optional settings or modifiers.
Illustrator has become bloated and a sheer pain to use lately pretty much due to the huge amount of redundant tools.
The perfect example is plotting, moving and editing nodes...
    Illustrator has these tools:
       Selection Tool
       Direct Selection Tool
       Pen Tool
       Add Anchor Tool
       Delete Anchor Tool
       Anchor Point Convert Tool
       Curvature Tool
       Line Segment Tool
    Affinity has:
       Move Tool
       Node Tool
       Pen Tool

The 3 tools in Affinty can accomplish everything the 9 Illustrator tools above can AND do more AND do it faster and more efficiently.
There's no need for the the add and delete anchor point tools. Node tool click on a line to add a node, delete key to remove it. Simple.
There's no need for an anchor point converter tool, click the node and click the type of curve on the properties bar. Simple.
There's no need for a line tool. Hold shift to constrain and plot 2 points with the pen tool to make a line. SIMPLE!
There's no need for a curvature tool. Grab a segment with the node tool and bend it to shape. SIMPLE!
The white arrow is so half baked that it can't decide if it's a node tool or a move tool, and it doesn't do either job well.
Illustrator's toolset is looking like a kitchen full of single use cooking items from blue-screen-1-800-commercials on daytime tv... like bread makers, egg steamers, banana slicers, pizza scissors, electric spaghetti twirling spoons, hot dog and bun toasters, quesadilla irons, corn de-kernelers, avocado slicers and all of the other redundant clutter tools with one single use that could ALL be replaced by a really nice set of cutlery, pans and an oven.
I'm sorry this set me off on a tangent, haha.
Affinity is awesome because it's as simple as it is powerful.
They make their limited toolset as robust as possible and cut out the bloat.

TonyO got a reaction from Jowday in Expand stroke still sucks
I've been lurking on this forum for years now, and i've noticed the developers are very responsive to customer input. I wouldn't post here if they just ignored everybody like Adobe. Just remember they are actively developing the third part of the Affinity Trinity (publisher) and that is probably taking much of their manpower to get that application ready for launch.
The affinity apps are only in the 1.xx version range, the amount of polish and  the nearly complete feature set in such an early release of a full design suite is amazing. I find it's worth being patient. I'm confident they will iron out the quirks eventually.
