nametag reacted to Ben in Modify Skew field to make isometric image creation simple
You can already achieve this through using skew and rotation.
Scale height by 0.865
Left side = 330 rot, 30 shear
Right side = 30 rot, -30 shear
Top = 30 rot, 30 shear or 330 rot, -30 shear
However, I am currently adding to snapping and grid functions that will enable you to create or transform objects into grid positions. If using an isometric grid, that will give you the result you want. Using these methods will also be numerically precise.

Probably on my top 10 most used features in Illustrator is the stroke width tool, which allows you to adjust the width of the stroke at each anchor point. This can somewhat be achieved using the Pressure tab within the pen line settings, but it isn't nearly as precise.
A couple of solutions might be:
Add a stroke width tool to allow anchor points to be adjusted. Within the pressure panel, display a point on the graph for every anchor point from the shape. And allow these to be adjusted only vertically on the graph by holding shift, so that they stay on the anchor points. Create a new panel in the pen menu that allows for a numerical value to be entered in for stroke width.
Thanks for listening.

Here's an example where a little bit more control over stroke width would be extremely useful. I think simply having handles for the anchor points within the pressure panel would allow for more control of the smoothness/sharpness of the width.
There is a natural curve added to the segments, but when the points get too close, or there is too dramatic of a change in pressure, they lose the curvature, and the stroke width changes abruptly.

nametag got a reaction from Fettiemettie in Bezier Handles - Snap to 45° and 90° angles
Working with the pen tool, I've noticed that there is no way to snap the bezier handles to 45° and 90° angles once the node has been placed. Normally, this would be done by holding down the shift key while moving the bezier handle. In Affinity designer, this locks the handle to the angle it was last placed at.
My suggestion would be to keep the current behavior, but add an alternate keyboard shortcut that will lock the bezier handles to 45° and 90° (and possibly other) angles. Could be CMD + DRAG, CMD + SHIFT + DRAG, etc..
Thanks!

Hi nametag
Thanks for the link to the review, it's always good to hear feedback from how people find using the app on a regular basis

Not really sure if this is the best section of the forums to post this in, but it seems to be the most relevant.

Pretty nice in-depth review of Affinity Designer from the vantage point of icon designers. They have also done a review of Illustrator, and will soon be publishing their Sketch review, as well as a comparison of the three apps.

nametag reacted to Stokestack in Eye dropper tool
Thanks for the info.
I don't recall any precedent for having to drag from a color picker icon to sample a color. Or drag from any other tool's icon to use it, for that matter. There may be one, but this seems like a non-intuitive action. Typically you click on the eyedropper, and then you're in color-picking mode. Just like any other tool: Once you click it, it becomes the active tool that you're using. Currently, if you do somehow stumble upon the action of dragging the eyedropper icon or the little circular well, you find that they do exactly the same thing, as does clicking on either one of them. Curious.
Another odd thing about the picker: It doesn't set the current color or the color of the selected object; it merely puts the color into this ancillary color well that then must be clicked again to apply it. Normally, a color picker presents several means of choosing a color and making it the currently active color. If I select an object, click on its Fill color in the toolbar and sample a color, I expect the object's fill to change to that color (and for that color to be the active one in the Fill color well).
I was going to call out Designer's use of this ancillary well as a bad design; but thinking it through, I can see how it's convenient to retain the last-picked color in that well, so when you select the next object and its Fill color is made the "current" color, you still have the previously sampled color available in the 'last-sampled" well.
Uh... except you don't. The last-sampled color always goes to black when you change objects. Is that a bug? Screen grab attached.

nametag reacted to Gnife in Ability to add N number of new points between points
The ability to add N number of new points, evenly spaced, between the selected points.
I know this can be done manually by clicking the line. That functionality is great and works very well but doesn't help, if you want precise placement of multiple points.
Ideally I'd be able to:
1) make a circle
2) convert to curves (now I have a curve with 4 nodes)
3) select those 4 nodes and add "N" nodes between selected nodes
4) (so if I chose to add 1 node between selected nodes) I now have the same circle shape but with 8 evenly placed nodes

nametag got a reaction from pbass in How do I make bezier angle snap to 45 or 90 degrees?
Ben, thanks for following up. I've been using your suggested way to draw beziers on fixed angles, and like you said, it's not ideal but it's a solution for now.
As I'm sure you know, there's not really a way for us to know that a request or bug is being heard unless we get confirmation from a moderator. So again, thanks for following up and letting us know that this is in the queue.

nametag got a reaction from Cristobal Vila in How do I make bezier angle snap to 45 or 90 degrees?
Hi,
Is there a way to make bezier handles snap to 45 or 90 degrees? Most apps allow for this by holding down shift, but shift behaved differently in Affinity Designer, snapping to the existing curve.
The only workaround i've found so far is to use the pen tool to redraw the bezier curve by clicking and dragging on the same point while holding shift.
Is there another way to do this?
Thanks.

nametag got a reaction from Cristobal Vila in How do I make bezier angle snap to 45 or 90 degrees?
Hey Evtonic3, thanks for the reply.
I can do what you're doing as well, but the problem I'm having is once you have made a bezier curve, I can't align the handles to 45 or 90 degrees once they've already been created. This can be done in illustrator by holding down shift when you have a handle selected.
See attached video for comparison.

nametag got a reaction from bmw in Raw Photos - How to adjust tint / temperature?
Hi,
I can't seem to find an easy way to adjust the tint and temperature of a photo while in the Develop Persona. White balance allows for +/- between blue and orange or red.
Is there any way to do this without adjusting individual curves?
Thanks!

nametag reacted to arsone in Improved Guides and Layouts
One of the biggest friction points for me right now is setting up layouts. There are a number of flaws/bugs with the current implementation of guides that make it incredibly difficult/frustrating to set up a layout and begin working on an actual design. Since that is usually step 1, I've found myself quitting the application and jumping back to Adobe before I even get a chance to test out the majority of the software. The two biggest issues for me are:
Guides do not display x/y coordinates anywhere while being drawn. If guide is released and then moved, coordinates are displayed in a red tooltip. This means in order to accurately place my guides I need to draw them once, then move them. Guides do not snap to whole pixels. I'm constantly struggling to get my guide aligned with a whole pixel, but keep getting stuck above or below my target by a few tenths of a pixel (i.e. 149.8, 150.1, instead of 150px). In addition, the ability to automate some guide/layout functions would be invaluable. In particular, setting up columns and gutters for the 960 grid (http://960.gs). There are also core iOS/Android layouts that could be included too (actionbars, sidebars, etc).
