It does affect the bounds in some way. Attached is one of the examples where it affects the bounding box of a group. To replicate it, unskew an italic text by skewing it (or create a parallelogram and then skew it to be square) and you will see that it keeps its old bounding box, even though there isn't part of the object in that space. I hope this better explains it.

adirusf reacted to Ben in Guides don't snap to object geometry
We don't snap between geometry, only bounds of an object.  The exception is for points when using the Node tool, or positioning the corner of an object bounding box.

You can use the Node tool, and snap a guide to the nodes and handles of the currently selected curve objects.  I think you only need to select the object, not the individual handles for that to work. (off the top of my head I can't recall if I added this for 1.8 or if it's already in 1.7).

I could add snapping of guides (conceptually any infinite line) to curves in an object, BUT that snap could potentially have many potential targets.  To now, people have been happy with snapping to bounds.

@Jens, if you read carefully above you'll see that my main issues are broken features like constraints and incredibly bad implentations (exclusive to AD!), like non-visual tab settings and no image compressing. I agree with you on "distort / perspective", though

adirusf reacted to Dave Harris in Still incorrect text wrapping
The intended rule is that text wraps around objects with wrap outlines, with the exception that two text frames won't both wrap around each other if that would leave a space empty of text. In that situation, z-order decides which frame wins. The frame underneath wraps to avoid its own text being hidden by the frame on top.
In your example, the yellow frame has a wrap outline, so the orange frame wraps around it. This doesn't leave a space empty of text because the yellow frame is ignoring wraps on other objects and so fills the overlap with orange. So the z-order rule isn't needed.
The rationale is to avoid both spaces empty of text and spaces with overlapping text. If we change the rule as you suggest, then the area of overlap between the orange and yellow frames will be filled with text from both frames. In practice such overlapping text becomes an ugly mess that cannot be read.
So that's why the current behaviour is as it is. I appreciate it is not quite what you expected, but do you agree now that it is being consistent and simple? It's arguably simpler than InDesign's behaviour because it doesn't have a special case of ignoring z-order for graphic objects. When you say it is "incorrect", is that just because it is different to InDesign or has it caused you a problem in a real document?

It wasn't necessarily that, it was that we didn't keep the roadmap up to date, and we started shipping new features which never appeared on the roadmap, and then customers (understandably) asked about why the particular feature they were interested in, that was still on the roadmap, hadn't shipped it yet. The roadmap was a vision of where we thought the software would go, 5 years ago, but over time, our vision has changed slightly (well, individual features have got re-prioritised).

adirusf reacted to walt.farrell in Update notification for v. 458 missing in v. 442
There are several stages of making an update available, from what I've seen. Roughly, Serif:
Puts it on the server. Notifies us in the forum. At some point (minutes, hours, or days later, possibly) they enable it for automatic updating. It is only after step 3 that you would be notified when you run the out-dated version. It is possible (only Serif would know for sure) that a manually run Check for Updates will work after step 1 but before step 3. Or, possibly, you hit a timing window: you started .442 just before step 3 happened, then Serif performed step 3, and then you ran Check for Updates.
