AshTeriyaki reacted to phil146 in Glossary of Technical Terms
One problem I noticed while trying out the beta and while watching many of the tutorial videos: Many technical terms and vocabulary may not be familiar to new users, especially if they are not previous PS users. Please consider adding a Glossary of terms to help newbies learn to use this program.

Here's 20 fur and hair brushes. They are fairly simple, but I like them. Enjoy.

AshTeriyaki reacted to Haluke in Toolbar customisation request
The screenshot below was taken in AD. The alignment and distribution blocks are missing from AP's toolbar customisation window.
As it currently is, one has to drag the alignment buttons one by one to the toolbar (not as convenient as dragging the blocks).
Could we have them in AP as well please?
Cheers!

AshTeriyaki reacted to ALx in 3D layer view mode
Interesting idea! I've mocked up a quick example based on my earlier navigation concept I did for a client. Not sure how you'd show adjustment layers but overall it would definitely ease traversing through complex layer trees.

AshTeriyaki reacted to Henrik in New Branding for Affinity
To me, the core of design is purpose. As such, it's hard to evaluate without knowing what you want to achieve with them. Whether we subjectively like them might be a good question to ask, but a better question to ask is whether they evoke the response in your audience that you want to evoke.
I think the new icons are probably more unique in the landscape of design app icons, so they will probably do a better job of standing out against the crowd, if that is what you wanted to achieve.

I want Photo to be released already so AD gets artboards + symbols + array tool faster. :)

AshTeriyaki reacted to decimate555 in Separate lock button for each layer
initially I also would've preferred that layer palette layout too… however I like that you can select your specific layers (command+click) and click on the lock icon for multiple locks/unlocks at the same time, works with layer visibility and deletions too.
With the lock icon where it's positioned suggests a more universal approach for simultaneous control… individual lock icons per layer could deter some artists from trying it as described above. Just a thought. :)

AshTeriyaki got a reaction from DrianDromb in Snapshots in Affinity Designer
A big fan of this, I would find this far more useful in designer than photo, I go for big, messy documents with lots of ideas thrown all over the place, in a given session I almost always destroy something accidentally, this would be a lifesaver.

AshTeriyaki got a reaction from MattP in Will there be a UI persona for AD?
Here's a mix of feature requests and Sketch/Illustrator snags, I've tried not to mention anything you guys have already confirmed (But there might be a few in there)
Symbols & styles
Nestable - Symbol in a symbol with a shared style on a thingy in a symbol. In space. Searchable - Universal object and layer searching would cover this :) Clear organisation - sketch lacks a proper panel for organising symbols and styles. Styles and symbols should be group-able. Keynote and pages type style control - Sketch can be fussy with cmd+z, often you end up inadvertently breaking styles and text styles, changes once applied should be local until you click "Update". This also makes sketch-style text frame omission unnecessary. Inheritance from palette and symbols - if you change a global colour used in a style or symbol, it should affect all styles and symbols. The same should be true of styles inside symbols.
Artboards
Artboard organisation - stacking by row and column with defineable margins, maybe a nice 'pack by order' method. Parenting - nesting artboards under others for export and organisation. For example, a web design with all of the desktop screens in an artboard group and the mobile in another. Esure pasting artwork respects selected artboard bounds. Toggle artboard boundary visibility. Move multiple selected artboards. Lock/unlock artwork by artboard. Show/hide artboard or artboard group Optional scale artwork when scaling board. Optional guides by artboard. Create slice from artboard. Create artboard from selection bounds Move artwork with board - Illustrator has an annoying bit of behaviour if you drag a board too close to a neighbor and velcro's an object from another artboard to the one you're currently moving, this is rubbish.
General
CSS compliant filters - CSS filter allows hue rotations, saturation and a lot of advanced compositing effects, support has recently become very good. 9 slice scaling Placeholder image generation Option to copy colours as RGBA(0,0,0,0.1) or hex with leading hash, float, swift and objective C colours (Like skala colour) Guide multi selection, alignment and distribution Guide grid creation Snapshots in designer ;)
I/O
Import and export text styles and symbols Export symbols to CSS file (With modern CSS3 feature support and vendor prefixes) Export Colour palettes and text styles to sass/less variables (Neat) Export path routing - Similar to sketch/adobe generator, putting /xxx in slice name creates a subdirectory and places the file in there ICNS & ICO generation -

AshTeriyaki reacted to MattP in Affinity Designer Customer Beta (1.2.1.25597)
Ben is currently working solely on the Designer changes that will allow lots of little niggles with a number of our core tools (move, node, etc) to be easily resolved (it looks like a small change, but he's basically ripped everything apart and is putting it back together again with new functionality!), Dave is busily writing our PDF exporter and AndyT has implemented a really cool customisable keyboard accelerator window :) I've been doing some Photo-related stuff to try to help out where I can and will soon be back on with looking at boolean ops, expand stroke and a nice idea we have for artboards - then I might see what state symbols are in... There is a lot of good stuff already hanging around our codebase that just needs pulling together to make the features we know we want - and a lot of it is achievable in the not-too-distant future... but that's after Photo goes live - it has to be our priority right now to make sure it goes out strong and stable :)

AshTeriyaki got a reaction from MattP in Proper line tool please
Not sure if it goes against any convention rules. I like the line and polygon modes where they are. But I'd sure love a keyboard shortcut to instantly summon them.

AshTeriyaki reacted to JeanLuc LaBarre in Windows OS Support
With all due respect to the OP, Windows users have plenty of options.
Forgive us if we're not all overflowing with sympathy.
Two quotes stand out:
1. "I don't feel like paying 5x the amount the hardware is worth.."
So... your company buys gear that costs 5x what it is worth?! Wow!
I worked at a publishing company and asked the head tech why we were Mac only.
His answer: "For what we do, Macs just work better. What other reason do you want?"
2. "..you all develop exclusively for Mac!"
http://www.serif.com/Company/AboutUs/
Again, with respect, I find these sort of comments all over the web from PC users.
Short answer; If you're a pro, you'll use the right tool for the job.
For what I do, that tool is a Mac.

AshTeriyaki got a reaction from roryobryan in Gradient panel
It'd be great to have the gradient editor as a studio panel, I always have a bit of a fuzzy moment when I'm about to apply a gradient, my mind goes to the little stack where I have my colour, swatch and stroke palettes. Rather than the gradient tool or the colour boxes in the top left.

AshTeriyaki reacted to MEB in Update the path action icons
Yeah, I always have to check which one is what too. I've tried to redraw some in Designer (cheating a little) and also reorder them (exchanged Join Curves with Close curve) since i believe it makes more sense this way. This is what I end up with:
The names could also change to:
Break node
Join Nodes
Smooth path
Close path
Reverse path

AshTeriyaki reacted to lastfuture in Draw persona brush body-mode "ping pong"
Hi,
I love how easy creating brushes is and how easy it is to preserve the head and tail of a brush.
I wish though that alongside the stretch and repeat body modes there was also one named "ping pong" that behaved like repeat but flipped every other repeated segment.
So if I had a brush made up from this:
<___/"""">
repeat would create a stroke like this:
<___/""""___/""""___/""""___/"""">
and ping pong would create one something like this:
<__/""""""\_____/""""""\_____/""">
■ = head/tail
■ = regular segment
■ = flipped segment
it would need to keep track of the number of segments displayed so that the head and tail would line up (always displaying an odd number of segments so the first and last ones are the right way around to line up)
I'd love to see this happen in a future version of AD
Cheers

AshTeriyaki reacted to Ben in Flip X and Flip Y cursor - for object bounding boxes
You can already use dragging of the resize edge handle while holding Cmd to resize about centre. This is a fast way to reverse/flip an objects bounding box about it's centre point. Of course, it doesn't presently snap to the original size when flipped, but that is something that could easily be added. It would work with our present dragging model. It would also allow you to chose whether to flip in object space, or you can reset the selection box and flip in page space.

This behaviour by default would be awful, but with a modifier it'd be lovely.
