melior64 got a reaction from TheFlow in Ability to use saved gradient swatches in Gradient Adjustment Layers
Hey folks, I was learning about gradient maps in this thread earlier and I was disappointed to see that in Affinity Photo 1.7.2 there's no ability to use existing gradient map swatches in a new gradient map adjustment layer (I believe currently I would have to go and add them all manually again and save them as adjustment presets).
This is a feature that I use very frequently and I'd love to be able to select things from my saved swatches (especially if I can drag it in)!

    Many thanks!

I recently saw this post by @ivanozzo sharing a great resource for gradients and colour ramps, but I couldn't figure out how to easily use the eyedropper tool with the gradient in order to copy them into Affinity Photo.
After a long time playing around, eventually I sussed it out - so here's a tutorial for anyone else who needs this!

Nope, but I made one for you instead! This is super quick, but you'll need to adjust the type to something better as I just stuck plain old Arial in there for now so you can edit it.

First off, I love the clean shapes here! It reminds me a little of the Steam logo (in a good way) and the light grey shape fills the circle well so that it works at smaller scales. However, the thin highlight on the circle and shape will be lost even if this image is scaled down to the size of a forum avatar (for example). I love the diagonal shadow but i think the contrast of it could be increased so that it's darker and shows up more, otherwise I think this is a solid piece of work!

If you post your work to a single thread, people that like your style/work can just follow the thread and get notified anytime you add another masterpiece.
If you post new work to a new post every time it gets harder to track your posts or to go back and find something you may want to steal admire again later.

melior64, I don’t think there are any rules, or even guidelines, about how to post multiple works.
As you say, some people post multiple times to the same thread and others create multiple threads.
Personally I post my stuff as individual posts as they are simply experimental things that I thought people might want to see before I move on to something else. Also, it makes it a little easier for anyone trying to find them as they can search the titles for a particular keyword and go straight there rather than scroll though loads of other posts.
However, if you want to make your posts into some kind of ‘portfolio’ then a multi-post thread will probably be better for you, but it’s worth noting that if you keep posting the same sort of thing then some people may get bored with the repetition and just end up ignoring the thread completely. In this case, any new original work may also be ignored which might be a shame.
My recommendation would be – and this is totally unofficial as I have no affiliation with the Affinity team or Serif – to create a thread for each type of different work that you do. E.g. One thread for composition work, another for poster illustrations, another for magazine layouts, etc. This way, people who aren’t interested in one type of work still have a chance of seeing your newest creations as they can review the threads they are interested in and ignore everything else.
If you create threads with titles such as ‘melior64 – Composition Work’ or ‘melior64 – Book Covers’ then people will know what’s there and can react as they see fit.
All that said though, it’s really a case of “horses for courses”; just do whatever feels right for you. If you do anything wrong or strange then I’m sure someone will point it out.

Neat tutorial, @Sahil Ansari! I've subscribed to your channel
As a finishing touch to this effect I would probably also add some brushed in blue highlights on their bodies in either a screen or color dodge blend mode.
You did a great job of this, I think it adds a lot of movement to the photo and a nice dynamic element!

It sounds like Affinity Designer would be a good choice for you! There are lots of tutorials available in the forums here and also on YouTube. This is a great skillset to have especially when it comes to content creation for digital marketing.

    Hi melior64
You can already do this in Affinity apps, you can either type the percentage (ie 150%) or type an expression (ie *1.5) and Affinity will calculate the value automatically. Check out the following help page for more on expressions!
