SoCal OG Posted October 23, 2018 Posted October 23, 2018 Looking for some guidance on the attached image. For the life of me I cant seem to figure out how to reduce/remove the bright spot on the side of the subjects face. Any suggestions/methods to try would be appreciated! Thanks! Quote
Staff Gabe Posted October 23, 2018 Staff Posted October 23, 2018 Hi @SoCal OG , I don't think there's much you can do. You have got pure white in that area, so you lost all de details. Thanks, Gabe. Quote

Fixx Posted October 23, 2018 Posted October 23, 2018 You might try to fake it by cloning skin to a burned spot but it is not easy to make it look natural. Quote
v_kyr Posted October 23, 2018 Posted October 23, 2018 Yip I too would try here what @Fixx suggested, using the clone and healing tools and fake the face sides skin and hair accordingly. Also if you have a similar pose photo from your face, then you can maybe also adapt from that one some of the blown out portions. Here is just a rough unfinished tryout to give you a quick idea ... @carl123 nice one LOL. Good idea on the clone...maybe I can clone side of face from another shot and try to blend it in. Quote
v_kyr Posted October 23, 2018 Posted October 23, 2018 The main difficulty is to clone/adapt some of the skin tone coloring, so it looks more natural and less faked. But with some tryout passion you should get better looking results than the above or initial one. Good luck! firstdefence Posted October 23, 2018 Posted October 23, 2018 Having tried all of the main options I've just had an idea for using the smudge tool and using a textured brush, then creating a pixel layer and cloning from the layer beneath (the image) to the pixel layer and changing the blend mode to luminosity. This is a rough sketch of what you can achieve. SoCal OG Posted October 24, 2018 Author Posted October 24, 2018 Thanks for all the replies and suggestions. I gave up on trying to blend/clone it in and just ended up playing with levels, brightness, dodge, burn etc. to lessen the effect. This is what I ended up with. Quote
carl123 Posted October 24, 2018 Posted October 24, 2018 Nice work, it is very close to what I had a play with yesterday (see below) Glad you kept it natural, too many photographers would discard a picture with blown highlights, whereas I think they add to the picture sometimes Quote To save time I am currently using an automated AI to reply to some posts on this forum.
