leethcam
I am looking for a colour balance option which closely matches the Photoshop "Colour Balance." The PS option gives us control over three colour ranges, but importantly it gives us these in shadow / mids / highlights. This type of control is faster and often more powerful than many of the other colour balance methods and I use it to fine tune images that otherwise can't be corrected enough with either temperature/tint controls or even with curves (at least not as easily). Am I missing something and such control exists, or could I ask that you impliment such an option. To have the ability to simply tweak the colour balance in a particular tonal range is crutial, particularly for those of use who shoot events or in conditions where lighting is awkward and uncontrolled. penwiper, ronnyb, AbuPellack and 1 other

ronnyb
shadow / mids / highlights control should be in all color related adjustments, its super powerful way to target adjustments LilleG 1 2021 16” Macbook Pro w/ M1 Max 10c cpu /24c gpu, 32 GB RAM, 1TB SSD, Sonoma 14.4.1 2018 11" iPad Pro w/ A12X cpu/gpu, 256 GB, iPadOS
leethcam
Hopefully they'll put it in soon. For me it's something of a deal breaker. penwiper

penwiper
Yes, I also would love this option. :-) It was one of the main things I used when editing my photos as a student in a digital photo class. I'm trying to get used to AP's (non-adjustable?) RGB histogram. That said, I just got an interlibrary loan book-- "Creative Photography Lab" by Steve and Carla Sonheim and I'm excited to go out and start taking photos using the lessons there. I have the book for a month. We'll see what I can learn in that time.
leethcam
So the question is - are we just spitting in the wind with these requests / posts... or is the development team picking up on them?

Staff Andy Somerfield Posted February 18, 2015 Staff Share Posted February 18, 2015 Furthermore, all adjustments can be targeted very specifically - because they all have an internal mask.. for example: Do Select -> Tonal Range -> Midtones, then add an adjustment - it will automatically mask to midtones.. The adjustment layer is fully editable after too - as if it were a mask.. Thanks, Andy. leethcam and A_B_C
ronnyb
Great news, Justin. A Colour Balance adjustment will appear in the next beta. That's a great feature, Andy, I totally missed it, lol! Thanks for the tip... I guess 3 little icons for targeting the 3 tonal ranges in all adjustments would be a beneficial shortcut to pre-selecting the Tonal range from the select menu... Staff Andy Somerfield Posted February 19, 2015 Staff Share Posted February 19, 2015 I nearly agree ronny, but if we add three buttons to all adjustments panels, then someone will ask us to add buttons for the "Select Reds,Greens,Blues" - and then a button to "Deselect, Reselect" etc :) I'm not saying it's a bad thing, just trying to prevent us ending up with adjustments panels which look like Christmas trees :) I'll give some though to how the workflow can be smoothed out a bit.. Thanks, Andy.

ronnyb
Targeting RGB channels could be done by selecting an/or activating the appropriate channels in the Channels palette... But as far as targeting shadows, mids, and highs, How about something like this, Andy? Direk
Apple Aperture Tint block (Black/Gray/White) with color wheels is quite effective to use. Of course, SpeedGrade controls is much more desired. If Affinity Team is really serious to match it's excellent RGB Parades scopes, these added features would be great to us in "grading" our photos easily and effectively as well. Please consider our request, Andy. Thank you in advance.
wgphoto
This is an old thread, but I'd like to revisit it. I've been thinking about the Fuji GFX and the fact that Capture One won't be supporting it anytime soon (MF competitor). My portrait workflow with my Sony A7II right now consists of doing my RAW conversion and color grading in Capture One and then doing skin work, etc in Photo. I'd like to try and prepare for the possibility of not being able to use Capture One as part of my process, but the one tool I don't see an equivalent to in Photo is the excellent Color Balance tool. The Color Balance tool in Photo would be much more intuitive if it mimicked the look and feel of the Capture One tool, ie color wheel, luminance and saturation. If the Color Editor's Skin Tone tab could be duplicated in Photo as well, that would be fantastic. iPad Pro 12.9 M1/Mac Mini M1, in that order
