Crashing when using Pixabay vector images

Recommended Posts

Hello here are a couple of bugs that I've come across, wonder if anyone else has experienced anything like this?

When i drag a Pixabay vector only image into the document, the whole program crashes and shuts down. Full images on both Pexels and Pixabay are ok but the vectors seem to have a have a problem.

When zoomed ( not that far...) out sometimes the thing (primarily font boxes, I always have problems with font boxes!) doeasn't show the change until I zoom in closer. It's like a delayed UI response. I could move a an image over to the left but it still shows on the right till I zoom in.

Can confirm. Moving vector file from the stock panel let Designer crash.

Not happening for me using a Mac so maybe a Windows only bug?

Affects all OS's, including iOS (iPad).

Odd. I can drag a vector file from Pixabay in the Stock panel into an empty document window in AD V2.1.1 on my Mac running Catalina & it opens fine. Same for dragging one into a preexisting document.

For example, with the search filter set to faces I can drag this 'Smiley Happy Eyes' vector into the empty window & get this Smiley Happy Eyes.afdesign file. Tested with the same vector file in AD 2.1.1.1849 on my iPad & it also opened without issue, although I had to drag it into a new document window because I could not figure out how to access the Stock studio without first creating a document to drag stuff into.

I did further testing on my iPad with other Pixabay vectors & some did not actually load, even though the 'downloading' message appeared, but the app still did not crash. I have other problems with it, like embedded files not showing up in the documents after hiding & unhiding them, but again, the app never crashed even when it misbehaved.

@R C-R

We are talking about the beta version here, not the retail. The current retail does not show this misbehavior.

I don't have this problem under W11, however some vectors do not appear on the page.

I have not (as yet) had that problem on my Mac, but it does sometimes happen on my iPad -- I get the "Loading" message with the spinner but the file does not appear anywhere in the document, nor in the Layers Studio. Seems to happen about 50% of the time, but I can't pin it down to anything like the number of vector objects in the file, its dimensions, or anything else.

No one but you has said we're talking about the beta, and the question/topic is not in the beta section of the forums.

Did I miss it or is this the first mention of this being a bug in the beta version in this topic? Also, why is the topic in the Questions forum & not in one of the beta ones?

I think it should be, & it should be made clear that it affects the AD betas & also the APub betas. It doesn't affect the AP beta because it does not offer the Pixabay vector option.

Thanks, @MEB. Perhaps the topic should be moved to the Other New Bugs in the Beta section to avoid further confusion.

This is a regression in the latest build (1931) in all platforms as was marked as such.

Is there any place we beta testers can reference this & similar things marked as regressions? I did a quick check of the beta bugs forum but could not find anything about this bug.

It is kind of annoying to see a topic like this one with no initial indication it is a beta only issue, after spending close to an hour trying to reproduce it in the retail versions.

The crash in the Beta has happened here immediately — four times in rapid succession in Designer Beta (1903) and the first time I tried it in Publisher Beta/Designer (1903).  Could be my version of the MAC OS versus yours.

WorkAround:
When dragging to the UI to open the vector stock it works.

In the betas this does not work for me. IOW, it makes no difference if I drag the Pixabay vector into an empty app window or into an existing document window.

For me, the 2.2.0.(1931) betas always crash immediately. It is just the iPad retail version I was talking about not always loading the Pixabay vector.

What If you drag the vector graphics on the menu bar?

That seems to work in the Mac version, but I don't think there is any way to do that in the iPad one.

@Return, I'm not sure if the menu bar is what you meant by "UI" in your earlier post, but it seems to work if I drag it anywhere besides into the workspace empty document window, including dropping it on the other Studio panels & even the Tools panel, or dragging back into the Stock panel itself!

But regardless, it always shows the circle with the plus no matter where it is dragged to, so I hope eventually it will work no matter where it is dropped & not crash.
