Simple, versatile text on a path please.

Recommended Posts

AD's text on a path is awful - it's just about OK if you want a few words at the top of an ellipse for example, but try and put a separate line of text at the bottom of the same curve(with the tops of the text touching the outside of the ellipse) - forget. You have to create a second ellipse and move the text around with those confusing different coloured handles.

I've attached captures of text on a path from CorelDraw X4 from 2008 showing how simple and intuitive it is. In addition you can use the node tool to adjust the spacing between letters.

AD definitely deserves better than what it has at present.

No, you don’t. When you type the first line of text it will be on the outside at the top of the ellipse, as in your screenshots; pressing the Enter key on your keyboard will make the following text appear on the inside, still at the top and with the same starting point:

Drag the second line of text around to the desired position

and then apply a negative Baseline value to push the text down to the outside of the curve.

I personally find it less confusing than the identically coloured handles in other software. The different colours tell me instantly which handle is which.

Thanks Alfred.

The great thing about CorelDraw is there are no handles on the text  - just select the text and move it.

When I try to resize the path in AD I get this -Text 2 - then have to fiddle with the handles to get it correct.

In CD, just select the type and drag it - CD3 + 4

AS I do a lot of logo design, I use text on a curve/shape often

OH well, maybe the devs will see this thread.

Tracking and Kerning are used to manipulate the text and its individual characters (spaces between them), which works the same for Text on path

as for all others.

This seems very intuitive to me, unlike using the Node Tool, which is used to manipulate curves.

In short - better usability wanted. UX!

  • "The user interface is supposed to work for me - I am not supposed to work for the user interface."
  • Computer-, operating system- and software agnostic; I am a result oriented professional. Look for a fanboy somewhere else.

  • Not an Affinity user og forum user anymore. The software continued to disappoint and not deliver.
