Great to see the new features in the latest release of Designer, well done Development Team. A 'Dimensions' facility was a much talked about and requested for addition to the Designer back in 2015; search for the thread started by by tabtabai on 15th October 2015. I believe this facility should once again be brought centre stage for inclusion at the earliest possible update. Thanks.

In Lightroom there is a tool called "Radial Filter". Is there a comparable tool in Affinity Photo?

Sometimes (aprox. 20% of the time) i cant choose a tool from the toolbar, its mostly the type tool, but i use it the most so i am not sure if it happens with all the other tools too. Anyway, i simply cant choose the tool, it just stays at the given tool i was before. To solve this, i have to close the project (no need to close the whole app), then i just reopen the same project and everything works normally. Hello, As I gradually wade into the new features one by one, I noticed a few odd things. 1- I can get the point transform tool by pressing "F" but I can't see that particular tool as an icon in the tools panels. Also, is the point transform tool supposed to accept the power duplicate function? I tried, and it's not working. 2- When I try to use the transform node function (see screenshots) it seems I'm not able to see the transform box. I think I have deselected "hide box when dragging", just in case, but none of the transform handles are showing, and I can't use the transform panel either. It seems that I don't undestand how it works (the Help file id quite obscure) I have no doubts that I will fins a few other things I don't understand Thanks!

Hi guys, I want to bring a really nice suggestion that can be really time saver while dealing with "switching things" or anything like that, we can bring the most favorite brushes/tools in our right click, like a radial or square menu, I think this gonna save a lot of time for us that work professionally, please just let me know if this can be possible to have on future versions coming soon I'm glad to know that I'm almost 100% working with Affinity Designer , I want to quit from adobe monopoly asap regards, Jhonatan

My desktop version is missing tools beyond the rectangle tool. How do I get that fixed?

I'm very excited for Affinity Publisher. I do have one suggestion. I primarily work on comic books. All comics are drawn on front and back of a single page. Is there a way to integrate that easily? Like a button to push to flip the current page over and draw/place image on the backside and still be editable if need be? Thanks, Marty

Dear all, I need to clone from a static source point with the clone tool in photo. In other words I want the source point to remain fixed where it was originally set instead of following the clone tools movement with a fixed distance while hovering over the target area. From what I understood from the docs, this behavior can be achieved by unchecking the “aligned” checkbox but this doesn’t work for me (actually checking or unchecking the box doesn’t seem to change the tools behavior at all. Bug or feature or my fault - don’t know). Is that possible? Any help appreciated. Thanks.

Greetings, I am re-suggesting this to encompass all the Affinity products, especially Affinity Designer and Affinity Publisher. For the most part, Affinity cursor and tool icon shapes are very clear to understand and the cursors match well with their tool icons, except for the Move Tool. When switching between the Move Tool and the Node Tool with keyboard shortcuts, the two cursors are so similar they are quite visual ambiguous. I suggest changing them so they are consistent and clear for the user. My suggestion below is not the only solution— you may have a better one. I really hope you can reduce the user interface ambiguity and increase the consistency.

I'm brand new to Affinity Designer but trialing it I found it has a great ui and pretty much every feature I need except one major omission: bsplines. By bsplines I mean b-splines or basis splines (or possibly NURBS curves? I'm not entirely sure on the math definition), basically a different way of drawing curves than beziers that can be far more intuitive. Specifically, I'm looking for the kind of bsplines Inkscape has where you can adjust the "pointiness" of each node in a bspline curve by shift-dragging node handles, kind of similar to how the Corner Tool works in Affinity. Open the attached svg in Inkscape for an example. I use bsplines literally all the time in Inkscape because I find continuous curves without ugly flat spots far easier to make, yet they are surprisingly lacking from software. Adobe Illustrator doesn't have bsplines. CorelDraw has them but not with adjustable nodes as far as I can tell. Inkscape has them but Inkscape has lots of other drawbacks and issues. Now-legacy DrawPlus apparently had them though they weren't in the starter edition I was able to find. Affinity Designer, on the other hand, has been primed to get bsplines for a number of years according to various forum posts here like this, this or this from January 2015: So here I am, expressing interest but the last mention I can find was in December 2016 and now it's 2019, so my big question is: is there any chance of bsplines finally coming to Affinity Designer in 2019? The addition of bsplines with adjustable nodes to Affinity would make my rating of the product go from 8/10 to 10/10, or 12/10 if they could be drawn with the Vector Brush Tool (I would have easily paid double!). Thanks for reading all this and making an otherwise exceptional product. I really want to make Affinity one of my core graphics programs, just the lack of bsplines is holding me back. (Note that I am aware bezier nodes in Affinity have a "smart" mode where their handles are adjusted automatically, somewhat similar to bsplines, but I really don't find that the same, and the moment you adjust them they become un-smart. Is there an equivalent to Adobe Illustrator's shaper tool I can use to quickly cut off excess elements of overlapping shapes? In Illustrator, once accessed using the shortcut shift + m, it can be used to quickly cut and combine selected shapes. (I have attached a video demonstrating the feature) Since this tool was pretty handy in quickly creating new shapes out of a bunch of others, it would be stoked to learn if something similar exists within Affinity Designer! Hello there, shortcuts for tools have a bit annoying functions (atleast for me). First one is when you press a shortcut more than one time it cycles through other "modes" of that tool (this I solved with rebinding a keymap). Second one is when you press shortcut more than one time and you previously pressed another tool then it switches you back to that previous tool. Now this second one I wasn't able to solve and it is disturbing my workflow. Is there a way to turn it off somehow? Thank you, T.

Hello everyone, I have a huge issue with the Smudge brush tool in Affinity Photo (Mac). When I use it to blend between two colours, it messes them up completely. I tried a lot of settings, even tried the smudge pre-set from DAUB brushes library but they all do the same. Please see below screenshots of the setting used and some tweaks with flow and strength. Can anyone help me out??

Windows 10 Home 1809, Designer 1.7.0.231. I've noticed some very strange/unexpected behaviour when using the Customise Tools function (this happens in Publisher too). See first attached GIF where dragging a tool can cause it to sometimes: * snap back to where it was; * snap to a weird position nowhere near where I dropped it; * snap to the bottom of the tools. See second attached GIF where dragging a separator can cause all kinds of weird issues such as: * other separators going missing; * the tools 'avoid' the dragged tool in unexpected ways; * basically all kinds of weirdness that's difficult to describe, just watch the GIF and see how many issues you can spot (it gets a little bit more controllable by the end).

Hello, I apologize if this has been asked before, In affinity designer when I'm using the brush tool it always creates a new layer when i release the mouse key which is a bit of an annoyance. I wanted to ask if theres any way to change this so its always on the same layer similar to Illustrator.

Hello Peoples ! Coming again here but with few questions that you may like or not but i believe it is quite useful to ask. All my questions here are based on Beta version of Affinity Photo not on the stable version and they're intended for understanding and helping to improve what already exist and not to raise comparatives between Apples and Oranges. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Object: The Ring Function! I've been using it (not that much) since it was added to HSL Adjustment; well i really enjoy it and found it very useful when it comes to narrow and make precise color selection ...but i only see it in few of the adjustment layer that aims to work on colors. Q: Don't you think Recolor adjustment needs it to ? --------------------------------------------------------------------- Object: I've seen that there is the gear icon on the bottom right of adjustment layer when we have them opened but for unknown reason it does nothing when i click on it. Q: What it is intended to do or achieve ? --------------------------------------------------------------------- Object: As we all know that there is not enough online tutorial talking about really crazy tricks with Affinity Photo, i usually watch PS tutos and work on applying them in my AP workflow and they just work but ... for some reason i get lost when it come to do the Blend if thing. Q: Can you please point to a tutorial talking about that in details or simply share here how you do Blend if with Affinity Photo ? --------------------------------------------------------------------- Object: i often use the blend ranges function and just found it not working even if you click a million times on that gear. Q: Bug or me missing something ? Possible to fix it ? --------------------------------------------------------------------- Object: Let say i select a red color and want to add more to already selected using the same method, well ! on other software such as PS i would simply sample more color selection color by clicking Shift + Click and drag or click to add to already selected color. Let's talk about Masks (also i target adjustment layer because i love using their masking functionality). Okay ! Let's create a mask and press cmd/ctrl+i to invert it ... it stays the same i mean pure white when it should turn black (actually dark grey) when inverted and even when i paint with the brush tool on the mask it shows after i do another action such as cmd/ctrl+s or switch to another and start using it. Quite bad hein ! Q1: it is possible to fix this and make work as it should ? Q2: Possible to make the painting on mask more live and less delayed ? Okay ! Here i'm done with this. few here you will understand are bugs that need to be corrected and few other are kind of request but i count them as things that needs to be corrected at this level of development of Affinity Photo and what i point to here should also be checked and if possible get applied to Affinity Designer and Affinity Publisher because all 3 are based on the same principle and should not grow independently one another when it comes to these basic stuffs. I'm trialing Affinity Photo, and so far it is looking good. (Don't want the Adobe rental model if I can help it). However - the tools section is currently driving me mad. If I inadvertently hit the brush tool more than once, it cycles through the other brush options. Likewise with other multiple-option tools. I can't find a way of turning this auto toggling off, (like I can in preferences with Photoshop). And being someone who uses shortcuts extensively and has the tools bar on a second screen (as with many of the other panels), you can imagine the frustration this causes. I've searched on Google and find no solution - but I do find a lot of requests one the last couple of years. I can't believe there isn't a way to switch off auto toggling of the tools... that would be crazy. So am I missing something, or is it off to Adobe, because this would be impossible to live with? (Hope there is a way because I'm quite liking Affinity). Thanks

Well, I have not a lot to say, the title says it all. Affinity line of products have great tools and impressive functions but I strongly and deeply believe it is time for the thing to get an Ai. There are great benefits from implementing Ai with deep learning. Resize, crop, selection, tone map, snap, resources management to only list these can get great benefits from it. Even most common tools such as pen tool, fill tool, transparency tool, defringe, haze removal, live perspective, blend/replica tool etc can benefit from it to. Devs should think about and put something on the rails, please don't the 100% ready route implement step by step, tools by tools and have us to work with it and revert telling how it is doing so you can better it and deliver a top notch or next plus ultra software line of products. I haven't this been suggested before. I think it would be pretty useful to have pie menus for quick tool switching. I haven't seen this in image editors, but I think it's pretty common for 3d modeling: In this app, for example, you can customize them to have multiple levels, you can have quick color selections, etc. I think it allows for very a very quick access to common options.

I struggle to create gradient fills easily and efficiently. Here are the two methods that I use, and perhaps the only way. I'd be curious if someone out there has another method. Method one: Create object select "G" on the keyboard draw gradient Select the Gradient color box at the top toolbar make active a node on the gradient line select color from colour box Repeat steps 6 -7 for each node in the gradient line. Method two: Create object select "G" on the keyboard draw gradient Select the node in gradient bar Select Swatches tab in the docker on the right Select color in the Swatches pallet. Repeat steps 5 -6 for each node in the gradient line. Suggested Improvements: A) What I would like to see is the ability to double click on the color node on the object itself, not the node from the methods above, and by double click the node a swatches pallet opens for you to make your color selection. B) Another option would be to select color node, select the eyedropper in the tool bar and while holding the Shift key down select the color you want applied to that node. This method is great for sampling color from other drawings or reference images. I appoligize if there is another method alreay in place, I just haven't come across it yet. Thanks in advance. -Bill
