  1. Hi! I've been working with risograph printing lately and I was wondering if someone here has used Affinity for riso before. As with screen printing, riso printer works with grayscale files. Despite that, several printing websites recommend to use registration black for small text (12 pt or less) and 100% K for bigger text, though I've also read that it's better to use always 100% K for any text. If that's true, the printer recognizes CMYK values. If I use Publisher to make a riso printed fanzine, should I make a CMYK color format file instead of Gray? For instance, If I work using swatches of black ink only (100% K, 80% K, etc.) and I want to export a pdf file while keeping the same % of black without being changed to a different value, I think CMYK is the obvious solution. However, I often find myself confused with color modes and profiles and I thought it'd be interesting to know your opinions or sharing experiencies regarding the use of Affinity programs for riso printing. Thanks in advance!
  2. How do I copy part of a placed image in Publisher? I have two placed png scans on a single Publisher page. I want to copy part of one image over to the other image. When I do a freehand select of a part, copy it, and then paste it, what I get is the whole of the first image, not just the freehand selected section. This was done in the Photo Persona BTW, as I assumed I had to when working with a pixel image. Do I need to get out of Publisher and do the copy/paste thing in Photo? Publisher Win 7, V 1.8.5.703
  3. Hi I have noticed there is no function to be able to paste in place. For example, if you had an image on a double page spread which was on the left page. When you copy this and paste it to another double page it will appear on the left page and have to be dragged over. It would be great if you could paste special - "paste in place" which replicates the location on the page within the page you have selected. This would be especially helpfully when creating seamless front and back covers. This is available in InDesign and would be really helpful in Publisher
  4. Hello Everyone Hello Team I think it is time to think about bring an internal tool/function that will allow users to backup their full #Designer #Photo #Publisher profile and restore that full backup when needed. I mean, it often happened to me (and I guess to many) to be called on reinstalling my PC (windows actually) and find out I have to redo everything from the very beginning and considering my personal collection of assets, brushes, palettes etc. have i'm an unexpected way over the years ... I'm spending an hour or more to make everything work as expected or just be back like on my previous setup and this goes also for tab/studio alignment etc Really it's something different which is need to make this happen and former Adobe products will agree with that it's just painful to set everything back to the right place we want them. if in any case this was asked or there is an existing topics on this already please admins, feel free to move this in there as I personally couldn't find where to insert this and chosed to create a new topic. Hope this will happen at some stages and make a lot of people happy. Blessings !
  5. I use the field "filename" in my publisher document, say "bulletin001.afpub". When I export this document to a PDF with filename "report001.pdf", the fields in the document are updated to the name of the exported file. I'd prefer to have the original filename "bulletin001.afpub" showing up even in the exported PDF. Is there a setting to achieve this?
  6. Following a recent upgrade to Mac OS Big Sur 11.0.1 on the mac and upgrade to 1.8.6 of Publisher. When attempting to use an outline on an image using layer effects, the gradient colour stops cannot be selected properly. Unable to switch from one end to the other end of the gradient colour circles. Shutting down publisher then restarting sometimes works but only once or twice. In the image attached the left colour circle is active. unable to click on or select any of the other 2 circles. I have since been able to continue by opening the document on another mac using version 1.8 and Catalina. I was able to select the gradient stops and change the colours. I installed V1.8.6 on the Catalina machine and that worked as well. I have retried the document on the original Mac and the problem no longer manifests itself. This could be a work around. The document was originally created from a template on Publisher V 1.8.6 MacOS Big Sur.
  7. Is there a reason why The on screen colour of an object in Publisher (CYMK) looks different when published as PDF? sample.afpub sample.pdf
  8. Hello, I wrapping a book, and a letter many times goes to end of line (this letter is "a" what is "the"). How can I set Publisher for one character drop to new line automatically?
  9. In Master Page text frame trying to constrain Drop Cap to first paragraph only. When Master Page is applied all paragraphs begin with a Drop Cap. What are the steps to have the Drop Cap applied to only the first paragraph?
  10. Working on a book, 30.1MB, text only. A few limited embedded vector files. Worked great til yesterday, now Publisher crashes on an attempt to save. Anyone have any ideas?
  11. In PagePlus I can delete multiple assets by selecting them and using Delete Assets. How can this be done in Publisher?
  12. Hi, I would like to know how to add cell margins to my text frame in publisher. The text is flush against the bounding box which I find visually annoying and text can be hidden by the arrow or dot on the boundary. Is there a simple way to do this please? Thanks
  13. Hi! I'm trying to do a layout for a "pdf to photo book" on Blurb and I'm at a loss for how to proceed with setting the bleed in Publisher. They give the following specs: Page Specifications Points Final, exported PDF should measure (w x h) 693 x 594 Page size / trim line (w x h) 684 x 576 Bleed (top, bottom, and outside edges) 9 Inset for Margins / Safe boundary (Top, Bottom, Outside Edge) 18 Inset for Margins / Safe boundary (Binding Edge) 36 Cover Specifications Points Final, exported PDF should measure (w x h) 1483 x 648 Total Page size / trim line (w x h) 1439 x 604 Bleed (all edges) 22 Flaps (w x h, measured from trim edge to fold) none Gutter / Spine (w x h) 33 x 648 Inset for Margins / Safe boundary (from edge of trim) 18 I'm doing both the cover and the pages in the same file...easy enough to do that but where I'm stuck is the bleeds are different for both the cover and the left side/right side pages. Is there a way to set bleed on each master page so that it is applied correctly for each page? The way I have it set up currently, the left edge has a bleed of 18 and the top, bottom, and right have a bleed of 9 on ALL pages. I know I could to facing pages...but Blurb can't seem to handle that. Any suggestions? Thanks! -Chris p.s. the file contains sensitive information that I don't want out in the wild so I'm not attaching it. If needed, I can scrub it and attach a generic example.
  14. We are currently transferring from Adobe to Affinity on all our graphics workstations. Therefore we discovered a bug as follows: When a designer file has a photo file linked via resource manager we get an not further specific error when exporting the designer file to a PDF. This only happens, under certain conditions: We can reproduce this issue when the photo file linked in the designer has eg. a hue/saturation adjustment applied to one layer and masks applied to another layer and groups. Rasterising only the group with the mask attached does NOT solve the issue. Rasterising all groups solves the issue but then I will not need to link the photo file anymore, as I could link a flatend TIFF instead to keep the base changeable. We can reproduce this in almost any project we started with photo and designer. We also tested komplex photo files without masks and adjustments. In this case the PDF-export in Designer works fine. I have attached a screenshot of the layers of an example photo file causing this issue. Once everything is rasterised it will work, but thats not a solution for us. Thanks for the help! Philipp
  15. Cannot resolve what is causing the formatting glitch in the TOC. Settings all appear ok as TOC Heading 2. TOC Glitch.pdf
  16. Hello team, I miss in Publisher the possibility of an overprint preview, as well as the possibility to set individual colors or objects to "overprint" or "cut out" (hope this is the right term, maybe "omit" is better?). I did not find a satisfying answer in the forum. Are these features available and I just can't find them? Regards, Puck
  17. I'm hoping this is a quickie for a newbie question. I've exported my document to a pdf, and on some pages the boarders where I have pasted text in text frames are showing. What have a done wrong? It isn't every page, and I can't see what's different about these frames...
  18. Hi! One point before to start this topic: you are doing a huge and great job!!! Yes! I'm in love with your softwares… Please go ahead in this way then! So, I'm a professional publisher (book publisher) and daily user of Indesign since years ago. But, at least I don't want to be hocked with Adobe's subscription yet. I'm seeking for a viable alternative. Some years ago too I worked with an excellent software, Freehand, shamefully killed by Adobe (yes, again!). It's very late I'd found a nice alternative: Affinity Designer. What's my question of the day? Will Affinity Publisher manage the footnotes as Indesign presently does? When I import a .docx file into ID (the word file has footnotes) ID can automatically import them. A precious feature I use everyday. If not I think that feature should be very useful in a near future. I don't doubt about your skill to implement that function in the further improvements Yours
  19. Hi I've an A5 document I need to reduced to under 1MB, and I'm really struggling. I don't think I'm saving the history, I'm exporting 72 dpi, I've saved the colour in CMYK, I don't think I've any 'white boxes'. This is one of 2 documents, almost identical (2 job packs), same images, number of pages etc. The other was fine, well under 1mb. I can't find a way of reducing this one. I've gone into Adbobe and reduced the file size of the pdf, I've exported small size pdf, I've gone online and reduced the pdf smaller. So you can barely make out the pictures - but it is still too big. What am I missing? local_groupsandnetworks_72dpi_smaller_6.afpub
  20. Hi I'm sure this has been answered/obvious, but I don't know which terms to use. I've a picture/jpg, and I need to edit elements of it (just recolour bits), but I can't seem to select bits of the picture, just the picture. I've tried converting to curves.. but that didn't work. thanks Jane
  21. Hello everyone, I'm new to Affinity publisher and would really appreciate it if someone could link me to some good, step by step tutorials please? I've been onto YouTube but I end up selecting random videos so there isn't any real continuity and flow to the tutorials. Thank you very much 😊
  22. Hello, This is the second time this has happened to me in a matter of months. I'm on a MacBook Pro running the latest version of Publisher. It has corrupted my file and whenever I launch, it shows the broken file with almost all of the pages missing, and then freezes and goes to the spinning rainbow of death. As I said, it corrupted an earlier file in the exact same way a few months ago. At present, I cannot open any files at all in the program because it keeps trying to recover the file it broke. It opens and freezes. Fixes I have tried that have not worked: rebooting renaming the file (it still finds it) duplicating the file and throwing away the original (it finds the duplicate and tries to open it) dragging the file to the desktop (it still finds it and tries to open it) I can no longer use the program to work on any of my files at all. Publisher just keeps trying to open that file and freezing. As a side note, that file represents 6 months worth of work, so I'm pretty frustrated. (I managed to find a fix back in June when it happened, but I don't remember what I did) Suggestions? Thank you.
  23. Hi there! I am struggling to get consistent colours among different elements in an APub document when exporting to PDF. Perhaps a bug with the PDF engine? Or is it just me... To reproduce the problem please follow these steps in Publisher 1.8.5.703: Create a new document of any size, set the colour space to RGB/8 using the sRGB profile. Draw any shape with the fill colour set to rgb(231,35,105). Duplicate the shape and move it to another position on the same page, so that they don’t overlap. Create an inner shadow (fx) with the second shape. Lets say: 50% transparency, radius of 50px and offset of 20px. Export the page (or document) using the PDF preset „PDF digital (high quality)“. At least I end up with a PDF that displays both shapes in different colours (in Acrobat Pro 2017): the one without an inner shadow in bright magenta, the other one in dull magenta. This happens with the presets „digital (high quality)“ and „digital (small size)“. Other presets are not affected. I know, I could avoid the issue by clicking „integrate ICC profile“. But even without an ICC profile the colours are supposed to be displayed exactely the same within the same document. Any ideas? colour-mismatch.afpub colour-mismatch.pdf
  24. Hi! I recently began using Publisher to lay-out a book. I have imported/placed text from a Word document that was edited to have italics on certain words, and the italics are shown in Publisher before applying a Text Style (in the original Times New Roman it was edited in). But when I edit an applied Text Style that has Font Traits as [No Change] (which I believe should mean it does not change the bolds and italics), it doesn't stick after I click OK. It reverts back to Regular every time. I would like to maintain the italics throughout the text of the book as they were originally edited. Am I doing something wrong? Is there a better way to do this? Thanks in advance!
  25. Hello There! I'm having troubles with Hyphenation on my Afiinity Publisher (1.8.4) running on Mac OS 10.14.3. It just does not work. I can set the dictionary in spanish and also the Hyphenation dictionary. But my text appears with no hyphenation on it. I've tried in english also and no matter what I do, I can't get the text to "break" any word. Am I missing something basic? Thank's a lot!
