Hi, I suppose this feature is already asked, but I can't located it. Anyway, there is need for such a default layer created automatically with any new document where we can easily control if they are shown/hidden, printable/unprintable, locked/unlocked... or simply drag an object to this layer to act as a guide.

Hi everyone, I have two problems and I can not find an answer anywhere. 1. How to crop / rid everything what is outside the artboard? Unfortunately clipping mask doesn't help. I speak exactly about seamless pattern. 2. When I start painting, the brush reaction is delayed. The initial line appears after a while. Is there any way to correct this? Thanks for the hint! -
Basically what the title says- pattern stamp tool request similar to photoshop, as an extension of the clone stamp tool concept. Texture samples could be applied to the pattern stamp, which can then be used as an overlay brush or something. I would also like for the joint ability to sample from images to create new patterns and textures to turn into brushes.

Hello, I searched the forum for info on the subject, and found one comment suggesting we write to our font management software companies requesting plugins to use with Designer and Photo (and Publisher). I wrote Insider Software, the makers of FontAgent, and this is the reply: "Manually activating fonts in FontAgent should make them show up in the Affinity applications, but at this time Serif (the company the makes the Affinity products) does not have a way for developers to make plug-ins. Without that ability, we do not have a way to auto-activate fonts like we do with the Adobe applications. If/when they do add plug-in support we will take a close look at that opportunity." Manually activating fonts will work while I'm learning the workflow, but never in a production scenario. Insider says y'all don't have a plugin structure, is that true? And if it is or not, can this be accomplished, so our font management solutions can work with your very fine products? Thanks. -
I am trying to warp or manually curve a type design. I am baffled that a vector design program doesn't have this feature...it's a critical tool for any vector design. Type on path is NOT what I want because that tool does not address the bending perspective that warp creates. (see homemade type solution) any suggestions or advice?

Hey guys, so i want to make a wallpaper for my friend and i need help setting up the document size. I don't want to end up making such a big file that it can't be emailed to my friend. But at the same time i don't want to work on something that's too small and risk quality loss. For example if i open up a new document and make it 2560 x 1600 pixels (my friends display size) it just seems like it would be too big to email. maybe i'm wrong though. Is this the best size? Also should i select Web document? Any help is appreciated. -
I prepared a document with Affinity designer and today I do not open it saying that it is incompatible with this version of Designer (the same as yesterday) -
Running iOS 12 on a 12.5 iPad Pro and Designer version 1.6.2.42 Whenever I run the Export > Share > Save Image option, Designer crashes. I've tried resetting my iPad and reinstalling Designer, but the issue persists. I've tried different Designer files, and they all seem to be doing it. Any ideas? Sean -
I can't seem to export my artboards; they just don't show up in the Export persona. Not sure what I'm doing wrong. Just created a blank artboard (Artboard1) and that seems to work. Any ideas? -
Hallo, Recently I happen to use a lot constraints group function. I noticed that the strokes close to the bounding box is getting clipped. I googled and found the above thread. Exactly the same issue. The above thread was published two years ago, seems it should be fixed already. Could anyone kindly tell me how to overcome this issue (without having to restart from the very beginning...) Thank you. -
Hi, When editing my vector drawing I would like to use the selection tool to select, transform and move the complete eye including outlines and shadows. The tool only allows to draw a rectangle at 1 of 5 attempts (at the faulty attempts always a whole grouping is moved). As soon as I manage to draw a rectangle, not a single layer is marked, although the settings are set in the global settings (see screenshot). The selector "edit all layers" in Layers Studio is also on. I also tried, after selecting the main group, to reach the other objects and groups by double-tapping, but even in this attempt it was not possible for me to combine all the blacks and gray lines of the eye in one selection. I attach my complex AD file to you. How can I quickly select the eye including shades? This problem costs me a lot of time as I have to search for layers in hundreds of layers as a workaround. Instead of making a change in a minute, it takes a lot of effort. The app is really very good, but the Move tool is currently a showstopper when using it. Best regards Sandra Unbenannt_4.afdesign

Is there a way to open/import AI files that have objects out of bounds? Most of my Illustrator files have objects all over the place. When opening AI file in Designer what you see is only what's on the artboard and in my case it's most of the times nothing. So I have to open Illustrator, move objects and then open the file in Designer. Thank you. -
I have installed the latest version of the Affinity programs and now they are closing after it appears they have opened! I thought this should be posted in technical help but those subject areas are not open to me for some reason. -
Hello. I couldn't find a direct answer to this. Is there a way to sculpt a pencil line in the desktop version of Affinity designer. I love using this feature on the iPad and find the Pencil tool basically useless to me without it. Thanks, -
I apologize if this topic was already covered. I searched and found nothing quite like the problem I am having. Summary: Brushes, strokes, and effect are limited in how far up they can be scaled, limiting the overall size of the image created. I have a small bullet-like object created on the iPad. After opening the file on my desktop app I realized it is too small, so I scale it up. As you can see, from the attached image, the brush strokes and effects don't scale up even though I have the stroke's Scale with Object selected. I tried to resize the gaussian blur effect, but it is limited (won't blur enough). So, I am assuming then that effects such as Gaussian blur, noise, and simple things like stroke thickness are somewhat limited when you use them in large works. Is that assumption correct? And what about brush textures? Those are bitmaps right, so how far can those be upscaled before losing clarity? Will creating larger brush textures remedy the problem, and will AD have vector brushes in the future? For now, I hope that by exporting to the final size the quality will be high enough to be used. Thoughts or ideas? Thanks -Bill

This is probably a daft question and maybe I’ve changed something that is doing this.?? when I’m using the vector paint brush, whether I use my finger or pencil, the paint mark doesn’t start immediately and there is a line that seems to trail between the pen tip and the start of the paint line. Hello I want to make the text to write in a circle and not outside the circle, how can I do that? Here is the text outside the circle with using the text tool, I want it to be inside the circle (and as a result the text at the lower part to be read right and not be upside down), in illustrator I was dragging the symbol at the beginning of the path and pulled it inside the circle but I can't replicate this here.

Hi, Just a quick question about Designer's brushes, especially the artistic ones like the 'texturing' or 'hand lettering' series. If I create something, and export the design to e.g. PDF, the result of the brushes is much more low-res that the original. It looks very pixelated at the edges. Isn't the brush a vector file, or does this not convert into PDF? I also imported stuff into Illustrator, but it's the same there. I cannot send something out for print like this. Any tips on this? thanks! rob -
It doesn't look like Affinity Designer can create it's own halftones from a gradient like Adobe Illustrator can. Am I correct in seeing this? Unfortunately that means seeing a bunch of tutorials online for drawing tons of tiny circles. I hate when I can't find the identical features. Anyone have a work around? Hey everyone! Unfortunately I couldn't find a comment about this question. If there is already a topic, please refer to it. What about other suppliers of stock photos? In all applications there is already the palette called "Stock". Among it you can see a drop-list, but it only contains one item/supplier which is Shutterstock. Are there plans to add more picture agencies, maybe some creative commons like Unsplash as well? Or will the community have the possibility to edit the list itself at some point? <- That would actually be awesome. Is it possible to express wishes as to which agencies should be available for selection? Regards MrDoodlezz

Hello, Many apologies if it has already been requested, or if the functions already exists but I did search and can't find it. Is there a possibility to have bleeds for artboards? I would like them to be printed when I am designing, say a business card back and front on the same document with two artboards, and I would like to be able to visualise and/or print printers marks from there. For the moment I am using guides and they don't print (obviously :), but it would be nice to be able to visualise the artboards pretty much like if they were individual document. That would save lots of time when doing identity kits for example. (same doc contains business cards, letterheads, thank you cards etc...) Many thanks! -

I guess this has been requested before, but the fact that this very helpful tool is not yet in Affinity Designer, makes me feel envious of my workmates using Adobe Illustrator. I'm not talking about the graph, but the tool that gives you the capability to adjust the width of strokes at a selected point. Can you guys confirm if you are working on it, please? I would get very excited! -
I’m trying to find a workflow that allows me to go from Designer to Illustrator. Yes, yes, I know, but I still have to place work into the other on occasion. I would like to keep the results of the fx panel editable, but I realize that they might need to be rasterized if I want them to exist after the file transfer. Is there a preferred filetype/setup/practice for keeping the appearance of Designer files in Illustrator without absolutely everything winding up as path-masked raster images?
