    Brushes

Hello good morning to this wonderful community. Where can I find, download or buy brushes for affinity photo for iPad? Is there a tutorial on how to create a brush? Thanks! I love this app!
  2. Textured Brushes on Strokes- How do I get rid of the gap where the last curve node joins the first one? (screenshot attached) The only way I could work around it was to break the curve, however on a doc with hundreds of strokes, this would be very tedious! Thanks in advance,
  3. I encountered a problem with abr brush texture loading in both Photo and Designer. I've checked about this issue in the forums and only found two similar threads in the Ipad section of bug reporting and both are from November 2017. I just got both Photo and Designer this year, since among many other reasons (such as better vector workflow for Designer), one of them was their ability to import abr brushes. I love collecting brush and I regularly used many affinity brushes, like @paolo.limoncelli's brushes as well as frankentoon's brushes. They are all great brushes and I have fun using them. It's just that sometimes I just want to use various different brushes to experiment with them. What I found out when searching about this issue was that some abr files is made using newer versions of Photoshop, and they might require adjusting in order to be read properly in Photo and Designer. I think it had been 2 updates since the this issue was brought up in the two threads I mentioned and this issue still persists. I tried importing the same brushes in Artstudio Pro on the Ios and it the app seemed to import them properly. Right, now into the details of this bug. Whenever I import abr brushes in Photo or Designer, the texture image of the brush will load incorrectly. What happens is that, instead of a single picture of a seamless texture, the image shown will be smaller tiles of the texture. I'll attach some pictures below. I think some brushes even have only three small tiled image at the top with black or white fill and sometimes other tiled texture below it. It only happens to newer abr files from Photoshop cc as those from Photoshop cs suite works fine. I realise it may take a while to implement fix for newer abr files, but I feel the need to bump this issue to let it be known. I would like to thank you the developers for such wonderful apps and I hope that this issue can be resolved soon. Regards Carina Images: The first picture showed brush that has some proper texture loading this second was the one with the tiled texture image The last picture was three tiled texture image at the top with different textures at the bottom, some brushes it can have a black or white fill at the bottom instead.
  4. Hello, everyone. I'm new here and to Designer (for the iPad). Currently, I'm working on my first inked piece using this app and am having some trouble with the Vector Brush Tool. So here's what I've done: 1. I opened a new file... 2. Selected the Vector Brush Tool... 3. Outlined the drawing... Here's the problem: 1. I can't seem to adjust the pressure of the strokes by dragging the curve 2. When I do drag the curve and let go, the curve jumps back to normal (even if it does move, the stroke remains unaffected) ***See last photo*** Is there something I'm missing? Thanks
  5. Ipad pro - ios 12 AfPhoto 1.6.9.81 This is something pretty old and annoying: you know, sometimes the software leave a huge mark (instead of the brushtroke expected) with the shape and the size of the brush tip. I’ve noticed something weird about that bug that maybe can help the devs. Performing the undo after the bug i’ve noticed that I must repeat three or four times the action to completely restore the normal situation so I checked the history panel and this is what i found. Everytime the bug appears there are three, four or five actions regsitered in the same second (it depends on the lenght of the brushstroke, more long, more actions). Then the history register the actions on the full canvas and not only on the portion of the screen involved. [update] It’s definitely happens using the color picker in the dock. You are still my favourite dev team . Stay strong.
  6. (Affinity Photo) I've been trying the context menu, editing the brushes to have size jitter (including the curve) to no avail. It seems to only do the regular round brush stroke without the taper despite showing in the preview. I've seen other people with Wacom Bamboo tablets where the pressure doesn't seem to work, that's the case for me, but even if I don't have pressure sensitivity I just want a tapered brush to draw with. Any help with this would be appreciated

    Tilt and Angle Control

I've been trying to recreate a simple pencil brush which would utilize the Apple Pencil. I got everything already set up: based on a round brush made a nice repetitive high contrast rough paper texture for the brush texture (works wonderfully) stylus tilt controlling: the diameter of the brush (having it orthogonal to the screen produces a sharp trace, whereas tilting it makes the diameter bigger at a certain threshold) shape (following the same curve as the brush diameter; when non-tilted, it produces a nice round shape, tilting the pen produces a narrow/elliptical trace, again, when it goes over a certain threshold) stylus angle controlling: brush rotation (when the stylus is tilted and as it produces a narrower trace, it should rotate with the angle of the stylus) stylus pressure controlling: the hardness of the brush (if you're shading, pressing it gently will produce a nice subtle narrow trace; as you press it harder, the trace becomes more pronounced) Now, the problem I've been having is that Affinity Photo for iPad is interpreting the stylus input controls differently than expected. Let's go over the tilt control first. How the tilt control should work: having the stylus orthogonal to the screen should read value = 0% tilting the stylus down in any direction (any angle) should increase value > 0% having the stylus almost parallel to the screen should read value = 100% How the tilt control works now: having the stylus orthogonal to the screen reads value = 50% tilting the stylus down to bottom part of the screen (parallel to it) reads value = 100% tilting the stylus to the left or right part of the screen (parallel to it) reads value = 50% tilting the stylus to the top part of the screen (parallel to it) reads value = 100% Now let's go over the angle control of the stylus. How the angle control should work (controlling the rotation which I think goes from 0-50%?): having the stylus tilted to the right part of the screen should read value = 0% (which is 0°) having the stylus tilted to the bottom part of the screen should read value = 12.5% (which is 90°) having the stylus tilted to the left part of the screen should read value = 25% (which is 180°) having the stylus tilted to the top part of the screen should read value = 37.5% (which is 270°) The way how the angle is read in the current implementation is hard to describe, I'll try to make a video or an output it produces. But it definitely doesn't map the degrees of direction the stylus is tilted to the brush rotation.
  8. Hi, Firstly I want to congratulate the team at Serif for their latest update of AP. The new interface looks great and the placement of some options makes it easier and faster to get things done. The brush engine was something I’ve been focused on for improvements. I have to say it’s improved, faster and well organised with zero lag and great dynamic control. Thumbs up guys! However you may feel this is a feature request rather than a bug. I feel this is more of an improvement as the new AD iPad brushes from my understanding have this update. From my link below to a clip on YouTube I demonstrate how AP’s paint brush stroke lacks the natural free of a real brush/pencil. From what I’ve seen AD has the option to control the tail end of a stroke by fading the opacity with the dynamics on release. This is something needed in AP to help with the natural feel of painting. In the video I show AP’s brush stroke compared to Procreate’s brush stroke. Procreate has the options to control the length and fade of the tail end of a stroke. The initial attack in Procreate on a stroke is pronounced with a hard edge and tappers off naturally. In AP if I try to adjust the tail of a stroke it feathers both head and tail making brush strokes seem soft and sloppy. I’ve notice with most brushes in AP they tapper in to the stroke rather than out of it. Please consider this to be an important issue in the painting component which is used regularly. 9. Hello, I have a Huion Inspiroy H640P tablet and pen and I am having the following problem. When I try and use this in the Affinity Photo for Windows 10 I can see the pen move, I can select a menu item, move layers etc. However, when I try and use the brush option it will not paint. I can see the brush move, change size, hardness etc. But it will not put down any colour. I have tested that I am on the correct layer and not using the undo brush, by trying the pen, then put down the pen and without making any other changes I then use the mouse/trackpad, and they work fine. I pick up the pen and without any changes try again and I can see the movement of the brush head, but nothing. I have also tested it using the Windows doodle/paint/memo option and all work. Affinity Photo version: 1.6.5.123 Hulion driver version: 14.7.6 Windows 10 Home version 1803 OS build: 17134.286 Laptop: Lenovo ideapad 305 Ram: 8GB Intel i3 Processor. So I have the most up to date version of driver and software, Windows is patched up to date.
  10. I drawed a line and tried to change the attributes afterwords. The only thing I could change in the "Brush documen" palette was the size of the line. All other attributes didn' change. For a better explaunation I've added a screenflow movie. What is my foult here? Brush_Size_Variance_dont_work.mov
  11. Hey guys. Newbie here! So in a nutshell, I'm an illustrator who primarily draws in Photoshop using a graphics tablet. I've recently purchased both Affinity Designer & Photo in hopes to totally ditch the Adobe subscription thing. Working in the way that I do, once downloaded I immediately selected the Affinity brush tool (not the vector brush) in both apps to see how it performs, but for some reason my pressure sensitivity is not accurate as it should be. I'm experiencing this in both applications, but not in Photoshop, Clip Studio Paint, or Sketchbook Pro. What's shown in the attached images is all strokes that were made quickly using a stable pressure. As you can see the strokes in Photoshop are all very uniform and natural looking, but for some reason in Affinity apps my stroke pressure does not register accurately which makes it incredibly difficult to draw 'neatly'. Sometimes when I press very hard the strokes are incredibly thin, but then suddenly bulk up which causes the strokes to look blobby - the scribbles I made were done with the same amount of pressure throughout but for some reason they seem to start very thin, even with a decent amount of pressure, and then suddenly thicken without me even pressing harder. I'm working on an iMac. I've look up a bunch of tutorials to make sure that I'm using the brushes properly, but they don't seem to play well. Is it just me, or is this a known issue? In the last attached image some of the strokes didn't even register at all like the cross bar of the "F" in "of".
  12. I am using Windows 10 version 16299.461 on a Microsoft Surface Pro 4. I am attempting to use the brush tool to paint and every so often press the alt key to temporarily switch to the eye-dropper tool to sample some color and then return to the brush tool by releasing the alt key so that I can continue painting with the newly sampled color. This works correctly while using a mouse but does not work at all with the pen (stylus). When I press the alt key and tap with the pen, the color that is picked up is the color directly underneath the mouse pointer (where the mouse/touchpad was last left resting) rather than where the pen is actually tapping. Therefore, I can not ever sample a color while using the stylus. If I can't figure out how to get this to work with Affinity Photo then there is no point in using Affinity Photo. This is a major part of my workflow and I can not use a mouse, that is far too slow and clumsy. Am I missing something? Is there a setting I need to turn on? Or is this a bug? (Edit) I can't even use the eye-dropper with the pen (stylus). Each time I tap the screen with the pen tip the picked color is the one where I last used my laptop touchpad. I was hoping I could alternate between pressing "I" and then tapping a color with my pen and then pressing "b" to begin brushing; repeating as necessary. But I can't do that. It is as if Affinity Photo is ignorant that I am using a pen.
  13. When stacking two images I try to manually blend them using masks. However, the brush hardness is always at 100% and the brush opacity settings are ignored as well, which makes manual blends very difficult, if not impossible.
  14. I photographed a fisheye photo and cropped it. Then I put on a lens distortion filter and put it on -70%. I cropped the result once more and then I started editing. I used inpainting brush and the selection was not where I selected it. I made sure everything was set up right and it was. This problem occurs for all tools, excluding patch tool and lasso (free selction tools actually). Also the selection with the brush is distorted under the effect of lens distortion filter. I don't know if I am missing something but it is nothing I could find on internet. I am sorry if I am wrong. Everything you need to replicate this is to put some strong lens d. filter. Thank you for your time!
  15. Hi, I was wondering if there is a duplicate brush functionality on Affinity Photo for the iPad? I couldn't find it and find it really useful for digital painting. I have a few brushes I like but want different versions of it so, duplicating the brush like you can in the Desktop app, would be amazing! Thanks a bunch!
  16. I was wondering if it's possible (or could be possible in an update) to have vector textures applied to vector brushes? What I mean by that is let's say I create an image of dots (all vector) then output it into a vector format could that then be used as the source texture for a vector brush? Would be great as then you would have all vector throughout a file instead of some bitmap and some vector which obviously then limits how large it can be printed at. I totally appreciate the bitmap brushes and what can be done with them but for some things (for example a halftone pattern) it would be great if they could be vector based so that they could then be output at any size when exporting. Many thanks for any input on this and apologies if it's already possible and I'm missing it somewhere as I seem to be doing that a lot lately. Very probably old age starting to set in!
  17. Hi I was trying affinity photo for drawing and digital painting. I'm currently using photoshop. but affinity seems really better. i was thinking of switching to AP. but the drawing & painting need some works. I had a few suggestions as well. a few days ago blender updated the grease pencil with nice brushes and tools that would be nice if AF could have them too. please take a look at this part of the video . you can smooth a brushed line with a tool just dragging on it. you can make it thin or thick while keeping smoothness as well. drawing a curved line with some brush would automatically smooth it.
  18. Hello there, I have been experiencing issues with my Paint Brush tool. I purchased Affinity Photo a couple months ago and installed it on both my iMac (late2015) and MacBook Pro (late2012). Everything has been working with no problem until last week when I opened a project on my iMac. I was trying to mask a layer, I press B and the Painting Brush was a SQUARE instead of a CIRCLE. It started acting weird. I don't know why. I don't have that issue on my MacBook. Everything works fine. I tried uninstalled it and installed it back and still had the same issue. Please help. I attached two pictures.
  19. Hey Guys, I'm a fashion design student and I switched from Adobe Illustrator to Affinity Desginer. I don't want to use AD just for drawings but for technical drawings too. My problem: in Illustrator I had brushes for zippers and stitches. Everytime I drew a straight line I could change the brush into a zipper or a stitch but for AD there is nothing like this pre made brushes available (or haven't found it yet). So, is it possible that someone can explain me how I make this brushes in AD or it would be nice if someone do it for me I attached you the ad file with the pre made shapes This is how they look Thank you in advance Fashion Brushes.afdesign
  20. Hi! I'm new on forums and on the wonderful Affinity universe. I have Affinity Designer on my new iPad and I can't find how to get back to the default brush. I drew with it from the beginning and now I tried some others brush and I can't find it!! Some help, please?
  21. Hi people! I've been playing around with the AP trial and my wacom, and after a long story I realized there is something going on with how brush strokes are rendered in AP. In short, they are a bit coarse. I remember that a year or so ago, I had a similar issue with AD, but since then it's no longer an issue. Strangely I can't find the forum thread I reported it, so maybe I never got around to reporting it? dunno... Here is the AP variant ;-) Bug in Affinity Photo: Aliased brush strokes I do penciling and the AP brush strokes appear somehow too harsh. In manga studio/clip paint, artrage or photoshop it never posed an issue. But in AP It looks starnge and I keep checking if I'm zoomed by some strange factor (eg. 103.333% or 51.27%) and hence the jagged lines. To illustrate my point here are similar strokes painted in Affinity Photo, Affinity Designer and Manga studio (clip paint). Of course manga studio and AD simplify the stroke but the displayed issue is not related. Hardness in all three brushes is maxed out. and zoom level is 100% AP: note that I've minimized spacing but even with a more casual value of 10 the jaggedness would be the same AD: Note that Affinity Designer still has the issue in the brush preview panel (Brush - Selection), but the actual stroke turns out fine. Manga Studio (brush aliasing set to medium): Details comparison: I believe PS to be even smoother, but I haven't got it on my current machine so I can't test it. I hope my point is obvious: the Clip Paint stroke is very smooth all-over, the AD is less smooth, but still smooth enough, but the AP gets too crips at times - appears jagged and... wrong (sorry I can't pinpoint it exactly) Bug in Affinity Designer While rendering the stroke in the artboard is fine nowadays, the stroke preview in the Brush-Selection panel still appears jagged just like AP. As if there is a different anti-aliasing level for the brush preview and the actual stroke! Thoughts In manga studio/clip paint, anti-aliasing strength can be further tweaked per brush. An option like that would be welcome in AD and AP, but this is secondary. hope this report made sense! -Fotis
  22. Hello Everyone, I am new to Affinity Designer, i can say that Affinity Designer is a Very good Software so i was working on brush today and i found something un-usual In Pixel Persona the Brushes is not smooth when i draw anything. but in Draw Persona there isn't any problem like this. see the Image, the Brush i used on the Left is from Draw Persona & the Brush i Used to the Right is from Pixel Persona. can anyone tell me why is this happening. am i doing anything anything wrong or missing anything i am using affinity designer version 1.6.4 on Windows 10
  23. Hello, I'm using Affinity Designer for sketching and I noticed that in Pixel Persona using the Paint Brush Tool with an alpha background results in a very "jagged" line (see first pic), doesn't matter which brush I'm using. This is solved by adding a white background pixel layer: since that the lines comes out super smooth and precise (see second pic), even if you delete the white background or you set it to "invisible". Can you solve it? Thanks! (I hope to have expressed myself in a comprehensible way!)
  24. Hi, Designer 1.5.4 on Mac OS X 10.8.5. I drew a simple pen shape (in Draw Persona), and made the stroke a vector brush (ie, Stroke Style button 'Texture Line Style'). How do I now cancel the vector brush and revert the stroke to a plain line stroke? I would've thought: Stroke Palette—>Style—>Click 'Solid Line Style'. But the vector brush stroke stays. Same when I click the Dash Line Style. Same when I adjust the stroke width slider. However: Clicking 'No Line Style' _does_ work, and removes all stroke. But when I then click Solid Line Style (or Dash Style), the vector brush stroke comes back. What am I missing?? thanks in advance, - pbass
  25. I used a number of different style vector brushes when I inked a design in Affinity Designer. When I went to convert the brush strokes to curves, only the solid standard brush strokes were converted and all specialized or non-standard brushes were gone.... I backtracked and selected a single stroke made with a non-standard vector brush and went to convert to curves or expand... and it was grayed out. Is there a way to convert these types of brushes to fills? I need to be able to use my vector line work made in Affinity Designer in other apps as vectors.... Is there a solution to this? Thanks
