  1. Exported the drawing as a slice from the A4 preset page size, that was exported by default as a .png. Opened it as a new drawing and added a white rectangle on a new background layer then saved as a new document, to preserve the effects of transparency that I had added to the brush strokes. Not perfect, but I am getting to the particular style that I've wanted to use since long before home computers were dreamt of :) Girl Sleeping.afdesign
  2. Still working with my brush strokes, I had some nice lines that I was hoping to turn into a background effect but at some point it went wrong (Lady in Grey 3) So I reverted to my original grey sketch and got on with brushing in some hair, lots of practice to get the right brush strokes, all good stuff Lady in Grey 2.afdesign Lady in Grey 3.afdesign
  3. Hello folks, Been practising with Designer and completed this wee critter in over the past couple o' nights. Still trying to streamline my workflow but practise is good (and fun.....) If anyone has any tips on how to make this better (especially the balloon) then I'd love to hear them. :D Cheers! 4. Affinity designer is my first AI type program Ive used (as AI is too expensive) - heres a quick logo mockup for a design competition - they're an electronics company... Still wondering when they're or if they already have put a save as png option? z-icon.afdesign
  5. Downloaded the latest driver and the Intuos 4 now does what it's told. There is nothing clever about these sketches except that they only took a few moments to do and it's the kind of work I've always wanted to do - but digitally instead of with nylon tipped pen. I've never drawn a cat before, but the fluidity was so good that this was easy. Now I can enjoy this! And I'm learning Mac for the first time too.... :) Catwoman 1.pdf
  6. Oh, how I wish I had a Blend command. This would be so much easier. And the second part (still to come) will be a small nightmare without a Blend command. Am I being too shameless in asking for a feature using, once again, something I'm drawing? ;-)
  7. Yeah, yeah... I know... it looks like a volcano cake ;-)
  8. Just took my son to Disneyland and he loves Olaf (ok, I do too). I found the ability to change the line width by using the pressure profile by one of the other posts...very fun. Not finished, still need to add shadows.
  9. Hey everyone, I've just been playing with the software, it started out as a quick doodle to play around and I'll be damned if t didn't just suck me in ;). I certainly like the way that Affinity Designer is headed. It has the key functionality from illustrator, but doesn't make you jump through as many hoops. Things I love: The dynamic shapes - there is similar functionality in illustrator with one of the astute graphics plugins but there is a much more extensive range here. i love the eclipse tool, really handy for shadows sand highlights on spherical objects. The transparency tool - is really great, no need to mess around with image masks to create a simple alpha grad The pressure graph - a great way to control the thickness of the lines. Insert inside - I didn't know that this functionality was available inside illustrator until i found it here Elipse gradient - Same again Things I would Love to see: Multiple fills strokes and effects - I have only just started using these in Sketch, iDraw and illustrator but they have become really handy for creating a more efficient workflow. I especially like the implementation in Sketch Outline stroke - Sometimes nice to use a stroke as a starting point expand it then tweak it. Offset path - Really handy to be able to expand a complex shape outward or inward Select Same… - It would be nice to be able to select the same fill or stroke colour to be able to easily recolour artwork. Adjustable Colour Swatches - I haven't seen this in any of the vector packages I've used but would be great to be able to assign a colour from the swatch palette to multiple objects and by updating the swatch you could automatically update the colour on all the objects (kind of like in inDesign). I've used this briefly in ToonBoom Animate and it worked really well. Quick Zoom Shortcut - I really missed the cmd-space shortcut to zoom. I was using a pen /tablet combo so couldn't use a scroll wheel… but I guess i would get use dot the trackpad alternative ;) Release compound path - I couldn't figure out how to separate booleaned objects (but that's probably just me) Anyways just some thoughts. as I said I'm liking the way it's headed and look forward to doing some more doodles sometime soon. Take it easy. Dave
  10. Loving this program. Just recently started playing around with designing. Here's a few vectors I've put together while trying to learn about it. Feedback is welcome. bull logo work.afdesign comet logo test.afdesign knives 8314.afdesign Background logos.afdesign
  11. I'm loving it. Doing a few strokes whenever I get the time. Really, really nice. :)
  12. This vector portrait was created using pentool, with a reference photo to use. Here are some problems and thoughts while creating this one. I tried using Gradient fill but the software keeps on crashing, so i leave it with solid color. (Someone already reported the problem on the Bug forum) When i'm creating a Shape (you call it Curve in AD), it needs to set it's color everytime and not adopting the previous setting when i create shape. So it eats a lot of time. while using Pentool, i can just hold 'space bar' to switch to Pan tool to drag the canvass view. But when i'm trying, i can't drag it. i have to pick the pan tool on the tool window to be able to drag the view. So maybe, it's much easier if i could just use the 'space bar' shortcut to use the Pan tool then resume tracing. That's all my concern, sorry if some grammars are incorrect, i'm not good in english.. XD I love working with this software so far as it was easy to use, and the guide at the left bottom of the window helps a lot. I'll explore this software more.
  13. Wish me luck. Going to force myself to start some better habits... ...like using layers ...or not plotting all my points first, and bending afterward (ya know, proper pen tool usage) ...or not relying on deleting nodes to form cleaner shapes If you guys watched the way I currently work with vectors, you would probably all think I'm insane. Anyway, this is what I'm starting with. I'll post updates as i go, might take a few days because time is harder to come by than Astatine lately... Anyway, here goes!
  14. Work in progress. Started out as an avatar, but has become an exercise in using Shapes. Evil-cat.afdesign
  15. Bit of a comic book fan so here's a little cartoon version of Deathstroke from DC Comics. Enjoy! Deathstroke.afdesign
  16. Inspired by Matt's post i decided to give it a try and draw a Lamborghini too in Affinity Designer. Here's what i got so far:
  17. Attempted a manga anime style type drawing. I'm not quite happy with the colours but I don't think I will improve on this unless I spent another few hours on it. I've included the affinity file as well so you can see how certain I've done certain things. I'm not an artist so there might be a few things that I could have done better, or more efficiently. Manga.afdesign
  18. My first image that came from playing around with the pen and pencil tools. Very useful and extremely accurate, although as always takes a bit of practice to get exactly what you want out of them (such as when creating the clouds and hills)
  19. Here is my first picture. I'm by no means an illustrator however I like eggs so...
  20. An attempt at drawing Floki from the TV show Vikings. First drawing I've done like this. Still a bit of detailing and texturing to do but you get the idea!
  21. I'm still working on it, but here's a drawing of a Miura for you to play with in Designer. If anybody fancies improving it and sending it back that would be fantastic! :) Miura.afdesign Cheers, Matt
