  1. Hello everyone! I'm brand new to this forum as I just bought Affinity Photo and Designer to replace a couple of Adobe products! I LOVE Affinity but I'm still learning some of the ins and outs. One of the biggest features I loved about photoshop was the ability to use the quick selection wand and then create a path from the selection. This was great because I always use vector masks when cutting out objects and it saves me tons of time, not having to use the pen tool to draw around parts of an object. Vector masks are the best because of the control and percisioun that you can achieve on the edges. I'm hoping Affinity Designer or photo has this function but I didn't see it anywhere. If anyone knows if this is possible, let me know! I'd really appreciate it! I can still make my masks using the pen tool but using a selection would be fantastic! :)
  2. Hello, I'm wandering how I can hide the contour lines on vectors, shown while working, but not after export. The red lines are not strokes, they also disappear when zooming in/out or moving the entire canvas? They are not showing on exported images, but are very annoying and they seem to show up randomly on different vectors and text, but not on all. Thanks in advance, Dimao
  3. I have always needed to make vector images. They are often disappointed with the result in tracing the main software. It would need a utility that eliminates isolated dots or tiny invisible objects and tracing residues.
  4. Hello--I want to create a vector text headline to use in a design which I'll enlarge and print on fabric. Like a T shirt, I guess. I'd like to use my own handwriting but I don't know how to vectorise it in Affinity Design? Any tips? I'm avoiding the pen tool as I'm so rubbish at it. Thanks for any advice.
  5. Affinity Designer Vector Graphic http://b-bertuleit.de/luna-2/ Here are other Luna works, in pure vector - damn pixel! :P http://b-bertuleit.de/luna-3-reflections/ http://b-bertuleit.de/luna-d-ray-2/
  6. Hi I'm only a newbie but is there any way to convert a bitmap image to a vector.
  7. This started off as a spooky road at night and ended up as a this.
  8. A new car in your garage! Pure vector work with affinity designer. http://b-bertuleit.de/fiat-500-vintage-57/
  9. Hi I have just installed the windows beta version on windows 7 with an old wacom intuos 3. I have pressure on raster brushes but the vector brush pressure does not work. Is this me and my settings or is it not supported yet? I have the pressure option set to on and I have tried other options and played around with the pressure graph, but it doesn't make any difference - all the stroke is the same thickness. Hope it was okay to start a new thread I'm not used to forums. Advice appreciated, Cheers Adam
  10. I have downloaded the trial version of Affinity Designer on my mac and seriously considering to replace Adobe Illustrator with AD. So far I have done some comic inking illustrations, a couple logo design and some coloured illustrations and I find the app amazing. I find Affinity Design the best App so far for inking purpose in vector. I have tried inking in illustrator, corel painter, Manga studio, photoshop. For raster I like Manga Studio but for vector AD is definitely the best. Though I miss some features of Adobe illustrator for example Auto trace, eye dropper tool, 3D extrude, blend tool to mention. Still Affinity Designer's price is so attractive that it lures an illustrator/designer like me living in India. I hope Affinity will come up with alternatives for premiere pro and after effects also. Thanks
  11. I'm considering retiring Photoshop CS4 in favour of Affinity Photo when it's released for Windows, hence why I'm here, but am curious how far Affinity Photo's tools stretch for digital drawing/painting too? Although I'm not new to image editing, one thing that has recently started to peak my interest is digital drawing/painting. However, as it's something that I haven't paid much attention to before, I am a complete newbie when it comes to that. As an example, here's a video of an artist who used Photoshop for a long time, but recently started using Manga Studio (now called Clip Studio Paint) for drawing due to it's better drawing brushes, etc.. The brushes he seems to use most often are pencils for sketching (5:15 & 10:35), G-pen for inking (12:00) and transparent watercolour for blending/shading (15:42). Here they are in real-life use (Note: Link may or may not be safe for work depending what country you live in). I assume Affinity Photo contains brushes that are capable of producing good results for sketching and blending. However the Manga Studio brushes also seem to have brush stabilisation and the G-pen seems to have a mode to use it as a vector brush. Do the Affinity Photo brushes have stabilisation and a vector brush tool (or are there any plans to introduce them)? A quick search brought up the following posts, which seem to suggest no? https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/7617-stabilise-brush-strokes-and-faulty-brush-settings/ https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/10152-brush-stabilizer/
Viel Spaß Ciao Jack Hi, In this Affinity Photo Tutorial, I show you how to create the style of the movie poster Lucifer. Die cinema poster of Lucifer inspired me to try this effect. There is a little bit of neon text effect in it. The main methods are the layer styles. Have fun Ciao Jack YouTube: Affinity Photo - Movie Poster Lucifer / Neon Text Effekt Foto / photo: Mauer/wall: „214759399“ von www.shutterstock.com (Lizenz) Mann/man: „129194138“ von www.shutterstock.com (Lizenz) Schrift / font: „Beon“, www.fonts2U.com (Royalty Free)
  13. I am not very into vector and AD was like a magic wand to me. All of a sudden I knew how to create vectorised artwork on the fly, so to speak. I thought. Then I was asked to work on a project which would have to be vector. I imported a logo I had made earlier and exported as an eps-file. All vector. I made an elegant brush which I thought was vector. And when it all looked as I wanted it to in AD, I exported it as .eps and sent it to the print shop - and was asked why I sent them a bitmap when they wanted vector. After lots of tearing my hair out accompanied by swearing in multiple languages, I finally learnt what was wrong. If you import an image into your artwork, using the tool for that, it is being transformed into a bitmap image, no matter what it was earlier. You need to open up the vector-file in AD as an individual file and then copy it and then paste it into your artwork. Then it remains a vector-file with all layers and info intact. And the brushes you create in AD are not vector, not even when you create it in Vector Persona. It is bitmap. The solution here was to export it and having it traced, something a very kind user helped me out with, since I don't have programmes with such a feature - a feature I hope will be added to AD soon. So, my question is whether it shouldn't come up a warning to us vector-dummies? I know, it might be annoying for the true pros to see pop ups notifying about such as they consider self-evident, but there are solutions to that. Either being able to turn that off or on in the preferences or having an option in the message: Don't show this message again. Just a thought. It would have saved me for a lot of frustration. And probably helped a lot of others as well.
  14. Hi Folks, Beginner question here. So I've got a logo design Ive done using AD. I'm semi-happy with it and ready to start trying on some mock-up stationary etc. However, whenever I re-size it using the Shift key and dragging the corners in it all goes a bit wrong. The text size doesn't change so ends up massively out of proportion, the shapes Ive created don't decrease in size as they should and it ends up looking a right mess. I'm new to the whole design world and still finding my feet. What is the best process for designing, creating a logo that will go across a multitude of products (Stationary, websites etc) and what is the best way to transfer it onto mock ups without destroying the logo when re-siziing it. Regards Mark
  15. my fist try on AD on windows, realy love the app. having some trouble to get the chrome right. any suggestions? gitaar.svg
  16. I decided to have another go at a vector person so here's just a piece I've been working on the past few days. :)

  19. Hello, I was wondering how can I draw a line and specify a specific length. For example I draw a simple straight line and I would like to set it's length to a specific value and without doing this manually by looking at the guides. Many thanks

  21. Sorry if someone else has already asked this question. I'm just a bit curious about a feature listed in the roadmap: Pixel Selection to Vector Shape. I don't need it right away, but I've been wondering when and how you plan on implementing this feature. How would it differ from the more far-off "auto-trace" feature? How will the feature work when it's added? What are some of the possible ways this feature could be applied to one's work? I know it's not one of the features that's coming right away. I'm just curious about what the plan is. :)
  22. Hi. I am trying to import EPS file downloaded from Shutterstock. And Designer's import making me crazy! Tell me how can I use Designer (I really want) and not use Illustrator when I Designer has such terrible import... So 2 huge problems when importing! 1. Image cropping is absolutely incorrect. Look at examples in Illustrator and Designer. In Illustrator vector is adjoins to the edges like should be, in Designer not! 2. Colors are just terrible! Absolutely wrong! I should open in Illustrator first and save to ai file with embedded color profile, and only after that Designer can show me correct colors! 3. Make finally Artboard tool, we discussed in this topic: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/20103-exporting-to-eps-%E2%80%94-how-to-do-that/&p=93520 — method with drawing rectangle like clipping mask is terrible and I need to use Illustrator every time to check how your software exported. Just include Artboard feature to get always what I see. Because when I am importing eps with correct artboard to Designer I have not any rectangles! Tell me what to do now and make it work good in next update! So great software with such terrible main features... I attached original eps vector from shutterstock too. 24. Hi @ all, I'm a newbie in Affinity Designer and this is my forst post here. My name is Ernie and I'm an old school Grafik Designer, Typesetter and Printer from Germany, Bavaria. For my work I use several programs like AI, CorelDraw, Serif DrawPlus, Inkscape but my favorite drawing program is still Xara. With Xara i made my most work in vector drawing and desining book covers for print and e-books. For Typesetting I use TangoSolo, Indesign and Serif PagePlus. My fun is creating photo realistic vector drawings like this one which is made in Xara. Just a week i play arround with Affinity for Windows an try out some drawings. One, is still in work because is to complex and affinity can't handle it, must wait until Affinity will be ready to deliver and most bugless. So I try some easier projects. These I'll share here with you: Sorry for my German-English, I hope You understand me nevertheless. From Bavaria Ernie
