  1. So after so many lagging issues with DESIGNER under windows 10. I have not reset it, uninstalled it, cleaned the machine, reboot, reinstall, added brushes and with in 3 uses of the program its back to brief lockups, very slow moving of item and slow loading of program. I never had these issues under windows 7. I have now put the first version of 1.6 released to public and it seems to be working better. Whats wrong with the program or what i am doing with it? I never had an issue under Windows 7 pro. But this experience under Windows 10 is terrible. I had issues with PHOTO as well. But reset seemed to fix it for the moment. When I reinstalled the brushes , i did them one at a time and checked..all was good...they are either DAUB brushes or FRANKENTOON...nothing else. PLEASE HELP! Gary
  2. Hi, I've noticed something with Affinity Photo. It feels very sluggish with simple large documents. I'm currently working on a very simple high-res document 10 000 x 5000 px 16 bit, with just 2-3 pixel layers and even simple operations are very slow (merging layers, brush painting etc). Is there something I could do to make it faster? I think that my PC is pretty powerful (please check my signature) and that shouldn't be the problem here.
  3. I have a windows 10 pro machine, fresh install and my PHOTO is lagging in performance. When drawing with the paint brush is really jerky and you cannot create a smooth stroke. It the program seems to lock up for 5 seconds and then start working again. I had Windows 7 pro and PHOTO seemed to work flawless , but not now. It even takes 8 seconds longer to load. I have using solid state drives, 32GB ram i73930K, GTX 980. Should be working with out issue with this setup and i haven't even tried anything hard with it. ANY SUGGESTIONS ON WHAT TO DO ? Any help would be very much appreciated. Gary
  4. If I create mulitple objects in affinity designer the performance become slower. If I hide the objects it is faster again. How can I solve the problem? 64 GB RAM 8 GB video graphic
  5. I have download the Test-Verson but its very low to work with Affinity - its normal? Specially when i work with HDR (to make from 3 RAW-Images -> 1 HDR-Image). When i work with other HDR-Programs i don´t have the problems. The same is, when i load a 360° Panorama-Image and work with Equirectangulare Projection. My configuration is: Win 10 64-Bit AMD A10-8700 Radeon R7, 3,5 GHz, 8 GB RAM I also have check the settings, and now is "Default (grafics card) active. When i chane it to "WARP" its not better But what we can do? I can not buy the product for the full price, when i can not use all the features. What is your suggestion?
  6. I have just done a complete fresh in stall of windows 10 pro. i7 6 core, 32gb , GTX980, and solid state drives. All drivers are up to date. Newest version of Affinity Photo. RAW editing seems very choppy and slow. It was better on my windows 7 OS that need a serious clean, hence why i did a fresh install. Any suggestions as to a fix for this. LIGHTROOM is blazing fast. No issues there. Trying not to use adobe , but PHOTO RAW is not very usable at the moment on my machine. Any ideas would be appreciated. thanks Gary
  7. Hi Guys, first thanks for this beauty, but have some little problem with the Wacom Intuos tablet. Brushes are very slow and in fact not really usable! I have to work now with the mouse to get things working.:( I use Window 10 leatest version.
  8. Hi guys, I just bought Affinity Designer, after reading reviews and watching a few tutorials on youtube, and I was very excited. I started using it, and I love the interface, the fact that it's extremely easy to use and intuitive, and everything was fine and dandy, until I added a few shapes and added effects to them (drop shadow, gradient overlay, outline). After adding 5-7 shapes, Affinity Designer became extremely slow. The lag between my action and what happened on the screen is extremely noticeable, and when I drag shapes there's a huge bleeding effect besides the delay of the movement. Right now, for me, it's unusable, is there a fix coming soon for this? Did anyone else experience this? I don't have an extremely strong system, but Photoshop runs pretty good on my machine, so I was expecting AD to run perfectly, based on the reviews I read. My system: Windows 7 64 bit RAM: 8GB Intel Core i5-4690, 3.50 GHz Nvidia Geforce GTX 750
  9. Hi guys, Just wanted to report a bug. When using text styles, especially on Artistic Text, AD becomes very laggy, it gets a 2-3 seconds delay for a select object action for example. Thank you, Chris
  10. It takes over a minute to open (WIN 7 with AP v. 1.6.2.97) I read that my color settings may be wrong "WCS device profile" but I have no idea how to change it (if I could find it and knew what it was). Others on the forums say it takes about 7 seconds?

  12. There's something that has been bothering me from the very moment I started using Affinity Photo: The calculation of the estimated file size in the export dialogue. If I want to export a multi layered project this calculation renders the whole program unresponsive until the approximate file size has finally been determined. And every successive change of the export settings causes Affinity Photo to recalculate the file size and the program becomes unresponsive once more. The described issue is very annoying and also unnecessary to me as I don't see the point in calculating such an estimation. I've got enough experience to know that a jpg with a certain quality setting is going to be of a certain size. Is it possible to optimize the corresponding algorithm so the waiting time can be eliminated? Or maybe you can implement a switch which let's the user turn this feature on or off which would also improve the situation for all those who don't need this estimation. Thanks in advance for looking into it.
  13. Any advice on the best settings for performance in preferences on Photo - memory usage etc? I've had a quick search but can't find anything on here. I have 64bit Windows system with 16gb ram, Intel i5-2500K 3.30ghz, with Nvidia GTX GeForce 1050 ti. Current settings are attached. My problem has been generally sluggish performance, waiting for effects to play catch-up with Retina Rendering at Highest Quality and a far too pixelated image when it's set to low quality.
  14. I have have recently updated to 1.6.6 version. I often import 10+ photo, raw format from Sony A7. Affinity is super slow while doing this. It's too slow to even switch between photos, let alone post-process them. My laptop is Core i7, SSD, 16GB of RAM. I would figure that it should be enough memory to handle 10 files. Please advice!
  15. Hi, After giving Affinity Designer a try, and still struggling with it due to bugs, missing features and unresolved problems, I decided to give Affinity Photo a try, used it for 5 minutes, and gave up. A opened a relatively small picture, very tiny one, and jumped straight to Liquify Persona. No matter which option I used, it works extremely slow, so slow that it's simply unusable. I had to wait sometimes 10 seconds to see the results of a mouse move, which is unacceptable. I played with all options there, no luck, no way someone can work this way. So, I opened the same file in the latest Photoshop CC 2018 and went straight to Liquify Tool - and guess what! Everything works fast, smoothly and beautifully! All moves are reflected instantly. Same goes for AD - keep going back to Illustrator. So, in short, I bought both Affinity software since it first appeared on AppStore, and still not using it - only AD, occasionally, for symbols... I really wanted this to replace Adobe software on my computer and I think I had my hopes too high. Don't want to complain, but when I paid for it, the development was really fast, now I feel that the most important things are still unresolved.
  16. So I'm on the band wagon seeing as PS has gone subscription based. I have Designer and Photo and was happy, kind of. I noticed the performance was very poor on AP. Zooming in on a WIP layer would take too long to update/refresh. I mean, its maybe half a second but it's enough to kill your thought process and kind of disorientates you. What I noticed was the biggest lagger was gradients. A simple gradient overlaid on to my highest level layer. Any attempt at changing the angle of this gradient would cause it to refresh once every second, maybe jumping 20° each time. Totally unusable and more to the point, frustrating. I'm only running onboard graphics card on my Dell i7, 16GB, 1TB SSD but PS was never a problem. I hit the forums to find out what I could do to get some speed in to AP. I tried it all and none of it worked. Changed the render setting to WARP, no change. Allocated more RAM, no change. I then remembered that my music production software wasn't too keen on SpeedStep being enabled as the processor got confused and jumped about from 20% to 70% whilst using particluar VSTs. Thinking about this, I popped in to my BIOS. Speedstep was turned off (which I left as it was to keep my music software happy) but I had another setting in my BIOS that was switchable.... TurboBoost. I switched this off and rebooted in to windows. Opened up the same file. Placed a gradient layer on top and dragged. NIGHT AND DAY!!! It was like using PS again. Smooth as a babies back side. Zooming in and out causes instant (not literally) refreshes. Scrolling through the Layer blend types is almost invisible as it changes the blending properties real time. The thumbnails on the layers panel update instantly with no lag. I've yet to try other things out that was causing me frustration but thought I'd post this on here in case it hasn't been addressed yet. I noticed that there seems to be problems with the higher end systems running AP so maybe its this Turbo Boost thing on Intel based processors. Anyways. My first post here so, Hello! Hope this may help some frustrated AP users. Turn off TurboBoost in your BIOS and hopefully it'll cure your lagging issues. Also check your DPI scaling in control panel!!! When I'm on 100%, the lagging is terrible. When I change to 150% (Recommended), the lag disappears.
  17. I started a TOPIC on this back in February named EPS export option, Slowness of "Calculating...", and although I can still see that post header in the My Content section of my profile, clicking on it yields an error. Searching for it reveals nothing. It seems like the topic was deleted for some reason, hence my follow-up post on the same matter today. Try this: 1. Open a rather large photo. 2. File > Export 3. Note that PNG is probably selected by default and at the bottom right of that sheet you see "Calculating..." Note how long it takes for the file size to appear. Then switch from PNG-24 to PNG-8 and note the time. It takes forever. Switch to JPEG and play around. JPEG file sizes calculate faster than PNG, but the are still slow. Switch to GIF and then go get a cup of coffee because you'll be waiting a VERY long time before the file size appears. I've got a 3GHz processor! None of my other apps that show sizes are this slow. Seriously, those sizes should be calculated and displayed almost instantly. Why is this important? Because I sometimes want to prepare pics for the web and I want to see if PNG-8 or GIF or JPEG are the best choices for the smallest size. In Photoshop's "Save for Web" feature, such is fast and easy. But the current functionality in AP slows me down tremendously. Suffice it to say, AP has not yet weaned me off Photoshop. But I am hopeful it will. That's why I bought AP just as soon as it hit the MAS. I want to support your development efforts. Thanks.
  18. Hi there. I have just bought the affinity designer and photo. And unfortunately I see that the program is extremely slow, lagging and glitchy. What should I do? I cannot work with this until the performance is so terrible. -.- PC Specs: Windows 10 Pro 64-bit (1703) GeForce GTX 745 (With the latest drivers: 06.10.2017, version: 23.21.13.8792) Intel Core i3-6100 3.70 GHz 16 GB RAM Affinity Designer Version 1.5.3.69 For more system informations, take a look to the dx diag file. 19. So every time a upload a RAW photo it take AGES to load. But when I try to upload multiple files, it will either crash or stop responding and the computer will just freeze! Is there anyway that I can speed up Affinity Photo?

    Develop...

So I opened up a RAW file into Affinity. It went straight to the Develop Persona, everything was being fast and good. Then I hit the "Develop" button and it took about 10 minutes before I had to quit it because it was being so slow. Why is this happening??
  21. Hello I am not native speaker please try to read my English skill. Thank you. I just bought it today as I used to trial version look pretty good. I got a few problem is mouse or pointer lagging between drawing ,dragging and moving curve make me really annoying so, Harding to handle mouse. AF Design Lagging with Simple vectors on 6 layers. Then how to fix it. My PC specs OS : Windows 10 64 bit Version 1703 build 15063.540 I5 4590 3.3GHZ RAM DDR3 16 GB VGA intel HD 6400 Harddisk 500GB
  22. Hi! Did the move from Adobe apprx a year ago on my Macs and love it. However: Now I am on Windows on a brand new Corsair One NVIDIA GTX1080 machine with 16GBs Ram, SSD etc and doing some mockups in Designer just turns slower and slower the more layers I add. I have some layers with gradients and suspect that they bring the whole app down. Now it is so slow that grouping (CTRL+G) uses 3 seconds to do the task. On my older Macbook Pro 2015 it runs as smooth as butter. What can be wrong? I am not turning back to Macs for the time being.

    Affinity Photo

Recently, affinity photo crashes, and works slowly on files, which I first worked out easily. 300 Mb file at layers. Attach log file. The same files on Photoshop make them work quietly. 24. Hi, I have recently purchased Affinity Photo and have been quite happy with what I can achieve with it. I'm a photographer and I normally go through the workflow of Iridient X-Transformer --> Lightroom --> Affinity Photo on my PC. Affinity Photo is only used for stacking and tone mapping purposes using TIF files generated by Lightroom. More and more I am finding myself going through the same performance pain points where I am basically sitting there for minutes waiting for Affinity Photo to do something (which I will get into below). Last night I downloaded the trial version of Affinity Photo on my Macbook Pro and did a few tests. Turns out Affinity Photo consistently performs up to 3 times faster on the MBP using the same set of files. I am hoping someone with more experience here can give me some advice on how I could improve the performance of Affinity Photo on PC. Below are the specs for my PC and MBP: PC Intel i7-4790K OC'd @ 4.40 Ghz (with a large Noctua air cooler) 16GB DDR3 RAM @ 2400 MHz with XMP profile 1 enabled (G.Skill Trident-X 8Gx2 F3-2400C10D-16GTX) Nvidia 1080 GPU (a Gigabyte OC model) Macbook Pro (Mid 2015, 15'') Intel i7 @ 2.5 Ghz 16GB DDR3 @ 1600 MHz AMD Radeon R9 M370X + Intel Iris Pro 1536 MB As you can see the PC's spec is significantly higher than the macbook's. It is winter here at the moment (<0C outside) and the system is well ventilated (has no problem in 144hz gaming) so there is no thermal limitation. The photos that I edit generally sit on a NAS. The PC is connected to the NAS via ethernet and the MBP via wireless AC. I have uploaded a sample of 4 RAF files generated by a Fujifilm X-T2 onto Dropbox. Here's the link. To test the performance. I always repeated the following steps and timed each one on each machine: Create a new stack in Affinity Photo using the 4 RAF files Set Live Stack Group blending to minimum Rasterize the Live Stack Group Tone map the pixel layer Here are some observations I made from the tests: Affinity Photo loads up faster on the MBP than the PC. Creating a Live Stack Group is consistently quicker on the MBP. Live Stack group blend mode live preview is a lot faster on the MBP than the PC. Live Stack group rasterizing is significantly faster on the MBP than the PC (10sec vs minutes) PC tone mapping consistently takes 00:50 ~ 1:30 to process. MBP tone mapping consistently takes 00:20 ~ 00:22 to process. CPU heavy tasks will utilise 100% of the CPU on the MBP but only 60~80% on the PC in some cases. There is no CPU throttling on the PC at all (winter + large cooler) GPU utilisation never goes above 1% on the PC. There is very little disk/network bandwidth utilitsation during any of these tasks. All of the above are true regardless of which renderer I use on PC and whether I have hyper-threading enabled or not. Having the RAF files on SSD's instead of the NAS made no differences either. I have tried the latest 1.6 beta and it made no differences in performance on PC using the same steps above. I don't understand why a PC with much better hardware is being out performed by a Macbook by 3 times as much and generally have a much smoother experience... I am getting to the point where I am seriously considering using the MBP as a photo editing machine but that would mean some significant investment into repurchasing software licenses and some new hardware so I could actually dock the MBP to my PC monitors and input peripherals and I would rather not have to do that. Any help is much appreciated! EDIT: more info on the spec's and additional notes on the observations.
  25. Hello, I am using Affinity Designer for Mac, running on one of the latest MacBook Pro. The file is used to design and export all icons for our application, consisting mostly of vector graphics. It is getting extremely slow, especially in Export Persona when browsing Slices. If you could advise me what to do, or even better - if you could fix this problem, I would be very grateful. I can send you original file. Best regards, Martin Configuration: Running on external 4K display.
