  1. Hello, My wife and I are new to Affinity Designer, so please bear with me as I certainly haven't learned the "correct" terminology, or the names of the menu items, their locations or their options! Some background: We are attempting to take my wife's pencil and paper drawings and convert them into closed-shapes in Fusion 360 (an Autodesk CAD program). Those shapes will then be extruded into bodies and used to "engrave" or develop 3D models that can be either 3D printed or more recently CNC carved into wood. We purchased Designer, because it can export into SVG, which Fusion will accept (but not always very elegantly!). We've done some test drawings, and if I draw with the pencil, pen or ellipse tool, I only get a single line in the SVG when imported into Fusion (what I would call a pure path, and NOT a stroke--but that may be terminology from other programs). After several experiments, it appears that the best workflow is to scan the paper image into PNG, do a bit of cleanup/brightness/contrast modification in a photo editor, and then bring the resulting cleaner PNG into Designer as a reference layer. We then tried tracing out the main features from the drawing using an Apple Pencil on an iPad Pro, and can only get reasonbly good results using the pencil or the pen. Unfortunately, when these are imported into fusion, they can't be extruded or used as cut bodies, as they are a single line, and not a closed path-as-if-it were a line. (I hope that makes some sense!). I'd really like to find a clean workflow that isn't too time consuming. My wife is a traditional fine artist, so working on the iPad for her is a challenge. I'm an engineer and certainly no artist! Is there an easy way to convert the pencil/pen paths into brush strokes on iPad? I saw that a similar question to this was answsered on the Windows forum, but it's solution doesn't seem to work on iPad. I've tried a LOT of different software packages to make this a reasonable process, but haven't found one yet (I don't have Adobe Illustrator, which might be a way, but I was hoping Designer would be a better solution)--things I've played with: Photoshop, Inkscape, various environments in Fusion 360. I'd even take a completely better workflow if someone has already solved this in a different way. Thanks! -- Phil
  2. When you select a path with a vector brush already applied, the Brushes Panel should show which brush that is. Right now it's impossible to know for sure which brush have you applied to a path once you deselect it. If you look at the attached image the applied brush is clearly not the brush shown in the Panel. When you select the path the Panel should automatically select the correct brush (which is a few brushes up in this particular case). I'm requesting this under the desktop section of feedback, but this same request is equally valid for the iPad. Thanks!
  3. I cant apply to a path any stroke width, nor change brush shape nor change stroke colour. I can only apply fill colour. Similar situation is when I try to change stoke width and colour to the artistic text or defined shapes like rectangles or ellipses. I found that this problem disappears when I apply no colour to a stroke, and then I can apply any stroke width, brush and colour.
  4. Hi, can AD or AP (Desktop)convert the selection brush marquee tool to a path or curve. In the image below I have used that tool and have the marquee but Convert To Curve is greyed out in the right mouse option box. I can do this in Fireworks 8 quick and easily. Thanks for any help.
  5. Hi, I am creating the letter F by connecting the two nodes in the red circle to create a single path that I want to expand from a stroke to a shape and export to FontForge. After trying everything on the list below, ‘join’ continues to connect the two other end nodes in the green circle that I don’t want to connect. Things I have tried: Select both nodes in the red circle and ‘join’ and 'close' Select both nodes in the red circle hold shift and drag until both nodes turn yellow Enable ‘snap to selected nodes’ then select both nodes in the red circle and ‘join’ ‘Join’ both nodes in the green circle, select again and ‘break’
  6. I've just bought Affinity Designer on my iPad (2018, 6th generation) and I'm really impressed. I Only have a bit problem with the pen tool: when I put nodes, I can't place them close to each other. I always need to magnify the picture when I would like to path small details. (I use Apple Pencil). What should I do? Maybe that is why I'm newbie to Affinity Designer. (Vectornator doesn't produce this issue, I can put nodes very close in this app) Thank You for helping me! Andras
  7. Hi, I’m trying to create a gradient that is curved or warped. I’m not sure if this is possible. Any help would be appreciated

    Text on a Curve

Delete and backspace do not work when editing text on a curve. You have to drag select the area you want to edit and delete it or replace it with the correction.
  9. Is it possible to have Text On Path in Affinity Photo? I know it's possible in Affinity Designer but I can't seem to do it in Affinity Photo. I tried creating a Path with the Pen Tool and then using the Artistic Text Tool and typing but can't get it to follow the path.
  10. How can I turn my curve into a selection so that I can continue working with it? Or is this function not yet available?
  11. Hi. Affinity designer is great! Very PRO. But i miss some features about editing path. (iPad version) cutting path between nodes. eraser for path snapping points (nodes) to path (the segments between nodes) snapping nodes to different path I think this features are there anywhere. But i can´t find it. There are two killer-features i need for my workflow (for my private wishlist): 1) Astude graphics / DynamicSketch Itś an AI Plugin. There is a funktion to delete overlapping path by removing intuitivly by holding shift and paint over the unwonted Segment. 2) AI on board feature: interactive painting This tool make it possible to fill gaps surrounded by two or more path. The funktion generates seperate and closed shapes just by draging color swatches in the spare inclosed by different path. Maybe AD has this features onboard. The AD desktop Version? Thanks for Support. best regards. MMMax
  12. Hi, I was wondering if it was possible when creating a path and then attaching a Text on this path to retrieve the original path. I can't seem to find a way to do it. This is really weird and frustrating. Many thanks. Nicolas
  13. Hi, The thing I mis, is a function that turns a selection into a curve/path.
  14. Hi people, I have an idea for a feature in Designer. Problem: You have a shape and you want a line swirling around it. Because a swirling line makes everything instantly 3D-ish. You make the line with a path design it adjust it copy and past it put one behind and the other in front of the shape use f.e. a mask to erase the parts of the 'front line' that should be behind the shape You working on something else and after a while you want to adjust the path. It's a lot of work to change the swirling. (This time you use the symbol feature, you should have used it from the beginning!) Next day you want to change it again, same hassle. etc. Deliberation: The swirling logic of a line around an object is in theory super simple. In most cases it goes something like: Line goes in front of object, line goes behind object, line goes in front of object, line goes behind object,... If something is as easy as this, it shouldn't be too hard to design a UI window, that let you arrange such a pattern. And if you have such an option, new complex designs would enter the realms of feasibility. Like cursive handwriting swirling around a cane. And if the UI window has the option, that the interlayer pattern of the path affect even the path itself, then even knots are possible. Or eeeven complex knot patterns ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Celtic_knot )
  15. I'm sure its been asked a thousand times but is there any chance of a similar function to Inkscape's path effects being added to 1.7.0 << if it were to happen I would be more than happy to pay for the upgrade from 1.6 A very simple example is shown in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aotGj9iJB4U
  16. It would be very handy to be able to define a curved path and then distribute objects along the path - the objects could be centered along various snapping points, i.e. top left, top middle, top right, etc. The spacing could be equidistant from path start to path end; or, if you have more than one control point on the curve, have the option of snapping the objects to the control points. Hopefully I didn't babble too much and was able to get across what I mean
  17. Hey guys, I was working on this vector file that I downloaded from iStock and it has a lot of curves and points. However, when I open the EPS file in Affinity Designer or even copy the vector objects from Illustrator to Affinity Designer, moving the objects in Affinity Designer is very slow and I constantly get a spinning wheel for basically moving an object. There's no issue doing just that in Illustrator though. What is up with that? I'm on spec'd out iMac and it's definitely not a hardware issue. Is Affinity not able to handle documents with lots of curves and path? I've attached my Affinity Designer file. My settings for performance is attached as well. Thanks! Geometry (boolean) tools

As it seems at this point there is no geometry tools (boolean) in publisher. Is this a possibility in future versions? I find it very useful for modeling image containers, shapes , etc… and is a tool I use a lot on InDesign. I hope this could be easy to implement, as the tool already exist on Designer and shouldn't be very different on Publisher (happy hope)
  19. Hi all, my first post here. I am using photoshop since CS2 and I am pretty good in it. Never the less it became to expensive for me to use it just once in a while so I decided to buy Affinity Photo. Great programm so far. I have just one question: Since AP doesnt behave like it is said in the helpfile I was wondering, if I am doing something wrong. I just want to place a text on a path or curve. I create the path/curve and select the text tool. It is said, that the curser would change, when I come next to the curve with the tool selected. But that little devil mouse icon wont change. Hence I cant wrap my text along the curve. Am I missing something here? A simple checkbox somewhere to click? Any hint will be much appreciated. I found a lot of hints for Affinity Designer, but that differs to Photo. Hopefully someone can give me a tip. Many thanks in advance. cheers Marcus
  20. Hello Is this possible in Affinity Designer? I can't find any settings. Thank you.
  21. Is it possible to export a graphics to .eps without outlining all the paths? I tried different options but any time I open exported file, I can not change it without redrawing all the stuff.

    Reverse Text Path

I was wondering if the "reverse text path" feature that is on the desktop version of Affinity Designer will be on the iPad version. I use that feature a ton on the desktop and find it super useful. If it is on the iPad version already please ignore this Thanks for an amazing app!
  23. I'd like to see a feature comparabale to Illustrator where you can rotate, scale and move a set of selected anchor points from a given pivot Point. Right now, rotating only part of a path is quite a tedious task, whereas in AI it's a matter of seconds. This feature would be even more useful if the adjacent anchor Points which are not selected would transform proportionally to keep a smooth shape.
  24. While using the Pencil Tool in AD for iPad, is there a way to change a setting to automatically close a path, where the nodes of end and beginning of the that path join. Or will I have to switch to Node Tool and close each of them manually?
  25. Hello, just want to do that: 1- Drawing a path 2 - Clicking (or right click, what i have expected) the path 3 - Create pixel selection from this path Any idea? Thanks
