  1. Hi guys, I've just encountered a really annoying bug in Affinity Designer. When placing Affinity Photo documents (or trying to), Designer quits unexpectedly without any error warning. Placing flat graphics (i.e. PNGs) works fine but I really want to place the source Photo document so that I can toggle the layers. Now I have to export everything to PNG first, which is costing me a lot of time. Please can you fix this? This function was working perfectly fine in 1.8.2. I'm running macOS Mojave (10.14.6 (18G5033)) on my iMac.
  2. I have been searching for a while now, but cant find any "select same colour" feature. All I can find is a feature request post from 4 years ago asking for this. Surely this rudimental feature has been implimented by now. Selecting and replacing a colour is one of the main benefits of vector work, to not have this seems crazy to me. I know the dev team is small and your product is so superior to Adobe is so many ways, but missing fundamental features like this makes it unusable for real world projects. I hope I am being a dullard and a select same colour feature is available. If not please add it to the top of the list of features in the next update.
  3. Can someone confirm whether that is possible? It seems to be possible in Affinity Designer, but not in Affinity Photo, which is weird. I thought the apps were pretty similar. First screenshot is Affinity Photo, second is Affinity Designer.
  4. Greetings, I am a bilingual user and have come across one interesting error related to keyboard shortcuts in Affinity Designer. ''Arrange -> Move Forward'' hotkeys, as well as all other hotkeys designed to move objects inside a layer, do not work properly. I found this because I often used these HKeys. I checked this between the Eng and Rus keyboard settings. When I change the keyboard settings from English to Russian, the above hot keys stop working at all. Sorry, if I dublicate report about this things if any. I didn't find same questions from any other user of your brilliant software. thnx again. BRGDS Dmytro Voznyuk aka Robokrabe P.S: I using the last version of Win10 Desktop Affinity Designer which is 1.8.3.641
  5. In my humble opinion the Bugatti 100P was the most beautiful airplane never built. Ettore Bugatti´s 100P was built as an unlimited racer in 1939 and was not completed by the outbreak of the war. It remained in storage until 1971 when it was restored. In 2016 a replica sadly crashed killing the pilot.
  6. Hi all This image (made for fun as a learning exercise) was inspired by a drawing by the scientific illustrator, Des Helmore. I must confess my version is not a completely accurate representation of the original weevil beetle, and is also a work in progress, as it needs more detail (hairs) and better shadow and highlights etc. It was originally drawn in colour, but looks more interesting in black and white. It was made using Affinity Designer and mainly uses these resources. Dots on legs and body: Fineliner brushes and vector texture from Artifex Forge (makes loads of excellent brushes) Organic texture: DAUB paper 15 from Paolo Limoncelli, who did an excellent 2020 creative lock-down session Background texture: a texture file from Trevor Young's (Tapocketa) lock-down session (also very excellent!).
  7. Not much to say about this whimsical piece, expect that I enjoyed working with the reduced colours and detail
  8. I don’t know how I didn’t notice this before, Affinity doesn’t display wide color at all! This is a comparison with a wide-color P3 image in Safari and how it looks when imported in Affinity Photo or Designer on iPad. All imprted images get clipped to SRGB even if I tell the app to work in wide color. This is not happening in Procreate or any other app that supports wide color.
  9. hey! this is the Lesson (preview) done for my students vectorize club! Vectoring without drawing. more info at the video description!
  10. Hi folks, Anyone else encountered this weird bug in Affinity Designer? I selected a large area of the document and the selection box just 'froze'. I could still move the mouse and even move between windows, but the blue box remained there, overlaying everything I did. I quit and reopened and it vanished.
  11. This gargoyle is resisting the urge to chomp on that curious pigeon. Trying out a couple of different light sources in this design, and trying to evoke a chunky, chiselers quality in the rocky form of the gargoyle. Also had fun coming up with a very simple, geometric form to describe the pigeon. Sketched in Procreate and finished in Affinity Designer. All feedback welcome!
  12. I wanted to give this character a sense of solidity; like he’s not gonna budge for anything. I really enjoy working in flat colour, and focusing on the shape and quality of the line work. This guy is worked up from a rough sketch in Procreate, pretty much the way I typically work. Feedback welcome!
  13. An interpretation of a Norse god. Skadi is associated with bow hunting, skiing, winter and mountains. For this particular design, I tried to capture a sense of speed and power, where the character bursts into frame. The sharp edges are also evocative of icicles and the crystal-like properties of ice. Also making use of the stroke properties that allow me to ‘taper’ the line, one of my favourite techniques.
  14. An old entry for a Character Design Challenge. I imagined it as an old school game cover.
  15. Hey guys......so I was working on my new course...and got the the lesson on making brushes.....sooooo I had to amek some brushes. 16. Hi everyone. I have created this topic to get help about how to make control handles of a node visible in affinity designer 1.8. As I am a total beginner to affinity designer, I cannot see the control handles even when I click on a node with the node tool selected. Please help me. Thanks.
  17. Hello everyone, From today i believe i have to start sharing few of our design works (actually i'm working alone but i do build a team from time to time depending on project size ) Most of our client/requesters are Church based and we really enjoy doing stuffs for them but what you will se here is more about Smarty Studio standing with other studio/teams together into what is to become Congolese Design Style. Well each country have it's own style of design but Congo doesn't have a proper thus most of Congolese designers simply clone/copy styles from everywhere. This is a beginning, please your inputs on each design palet/kit will be of great help and will help us improving better. Blessings !
  18. Hi, so I really like affinity designer! It's easy to create vector stuff and it's very fun to use. But, performance is not there (in my opinion) There is a slight lag when you move the items which is very annoying And some weird blurry lines as you zoom in or out. My PC Specifications: I7 - 7700 geforce gtx 1050 16 Gigabyte RAM Samsung SSD 850 evo 250GB Windows version is 2004 i'm on the free trial version Here is an example of what I was talking about any fix to this is next update?? pleas help me this is the only thing that stops me to get this program😒 2020-07-01_15-54-08.mkv
  19. I am using an XP-Pen Deco01 (V01) graphic tablet, which has been working perfectly for me with basically any app. I already updated the driver, and it didn't solve the problem. So my problem is that I can't get the stylus pressure to work in any of the tools in Affinity Designer. It's like the software doesn't even see my stylus as a pen, it works exactly the same as a mouse. I tried disabling using Windows Ink, but then it didn't even see my tablet at all. Actually I'm very new to the software, but I tried to play around with brush settings, searched a few tutorials, but nothing seems to work. Any ideas what can be wrong and how to fix it?
  20. Hi, latest Designer 1.8.3 on Windows 10 platform (version to 1909 and 2024 tested) has a serious bug regarding User Interface (UI). After the program loads, the Windows interface become buggy and not readable (see attached screenshots). I've also checked another thread on this forum that advice to do a SFC check on windows components, but that isn't a solution ( neither a workaround too) and in any case the situation revert to normal after a simple reboot. On my system there are other graphic software that run smootly (Rebelle 3, PS 2019, Krita, AI 2019); I've checked know incompatible programs and I don't use any of the listed apps. Side note: I've tested 2 beta version to see if the problem persist, and this is what I've found: Designer Beta 1.8.4.647 - the problem persists; Designer Beta 1.8.4.650 - the problem is NOT present. It's interesting, because in the release notes there's nothing regarding the UI bug, so It's worth to analyze it further to understand what's causing this bug. Hope that you find out! Thanks! The system is a Mac Mini Late 2012 with BootCamp running Windows 10 latest build 2004, in Italian Language (tested also on previous build 1909); graphic card is integrated Intel HD4000 with latest drivers from Intel (Version10.18.10.5129, Date 21/01/2020).
  21. Hey there! I do transit diagrams and maps for fun. Here are two recent fantasy/proposed future metro networks which I wanted to show in nice and clean style. For both I found data and maps online but they weren't appealing. 1) Possible metro line for Brno 2) Planned metro line with alternative routing for Krakow Feedback appreciated! Enjoy them! Chris
  22. Hi all, Specs: Designer Version 1.8.3.641. Photo Version 1.8.3.641 Windows 10 Intel Core i5-8265U 1.6GHz w/ Turbo Boost up to 3.9Ghz RAM - 8 GB I've recently downloaded a few free .abr brush sets online which I was able to successfully import into both Photo and the Pixel Persona of Designer after just a few seconds of loading, annoyingly now I've purchased a brush set the software seems to fall over itself when I try and import it. I bought the new Photoshop Brush Set (30+ brushes) from Sketch-a-Day (created in Photoshop CC I believe), but when I try to import it either in Photo or the Pixel Persona of Designer, I get the blue spinning wheel but the software never seems to recover. I've not timed how long I've left it to try and recover, but I'm sure it's been about 20-30 mins without any response at least. The brushes only cost $14 or about £12, but I'd really rather have them working! I've imported other .abr files so I'm hoping there's a way I can get this file imported too. The file size is 39.2mb - could that be the issue? I've tried importing the file into GIMP and only a handful of the brushes came in, but only a few worked correctly as far as I could tell. If anyone could give some suggestions, I'd be happy to try anything at all! Thanks, Josh
  23. Hey, I've just uploaded a load of resources for clothing illustration and design to help the community. As a clothing designer and developer, I am on a mission to let product designers know how good Affinity is for design and development! Included are... 15 Stitch brushes 17 Zipper brushes 133 fabric creases (clear png textures) 10 zipper slider vectors and 5 stopper vectors 6 button vectors All are customisable and can be found at mrtechpack.com I'll continue to make more useful resources whenever I can. Enjoy!
  24. I have recently completed the Udemy course "Affinity Designer, Solid Foundations" by Simon Foster. Thoroughly enjoyed it (17.5 hours of video!). In one section, Simon used the scenario of proposing a presentation to a client using artboards, symbols, Simon has 30 years experience as a professional designer, and it shows. The course starts with basics, but leads on to more advanced workflows The section on Presentations works well so far as it goes. But if you map the ideas on to PowerPoint, then it misses a few tricks which are nothing to do with Affinity Designer. So could it be developed? And if so, would it then be a useful tool for creating PowerPoint presentations? The presentation below sets out this opportunity, which I am pleased to say I have discussed with Simon, though the words used are entirely mine. Sample artboards can be downloaded - see notes below video. It is more of an exploration than a tutorial. (There are notes with timings for the topics covered after the You Tube posting. Some relate to Affinity features that gave a few problems)
  25. Hello Designers! In this video I show how to recreate the Affinity Designer Logo using the Horizontal Triangular grid. Affinity Designer Logo.afdesign
