  1. We are pleased to announce a major update for the Windows release of Affinity Designer, version 1.7.1 Changes in this Build The changes in Affinity Designer 1.7.1 (for Windows) over the recent release Affinity Designer 1.7.0 are as follows: Support for multi-page Affinity Publisher documents Fixed sporadic crash with HSL range control Removed limits to shadows highlights effects Avoid over saturated shadows and washed out highlights New curve for highlights filter applied to bounded pixel formats Remap shadows and highlights slider ranges Fixed hang when scrolling through Slices panel Fixed custom panel height being reset on app start Fixed Gradient Colour selection closing popup immediately Reduced file sizes when starting from/inserting an image Fixed crash when pressing Esc during a floating panel drag Removed resize gripper when the Status bar is visible Added double click to Assign/Convert profile dialog Fixed Column guides colour > Tint slider not working Added Save over imported PSD files Fixed Scale with Object causing stroke size to be incorrectly reflected in the Appearance panel Fixed Symbol unlinked orange dashed line not showing up for unlinked symbols Fixed 32-Bit Preview panel being clippedwhen upgrading from 1.6 Fixed CMYK Colour profile setting the Grey profile to empty Fixed Noise not being applied on a gradient stop colour Fixed crashes in History and Layers panel Fixed brush preview outline still present when colour picking with Alt+click Enabled Resize document to work withphysical units Fixed EPS "Export text as curves" checkbox being disabled Fixed PDF export of RGB documents in greyscale documents Fixed sporadic crash on print Added preference for opening documents in a new floating container Fixed Adjustments thumbnails in the Layers panel are not being updated Fixed failure in 1.7.0 to read custom keyboard shortcuts. Changes in 1.7.0 (Since 1.6.5) The changes in Affinity Designer for Windows 1.7.0 over the last Affinity Designer patch 1.6.5 are as follows: Tools We've overhauled most of the core tools, adding subtle new features to make you more productive. New Point Transform Tool allows you to scale and rotate objects from any node. The Node Tool now contains a 'Transform Node' option which provides a containing box for the selected nodes and allows for more freeform editing of the nodes. New 'Cube' grid setup mode (take a look in 'View' -> 'Grid and Axis Manager...'). Pen tool now has a 'rubber band' mode and also a mode to allow future curves to be added to the current object's curves (for example, the character 'a' is constructed of two curves in a single 'curve object' and this mode makes that construction simpler). Node tool can now auto-snap nodes if you drag a node from one curve over the top of a node from another (selected) curve and pause, it will offer to snap to the same geometry as the node you're hovering over (ie, modify the on and off-curve nodes to match). This is really useful for trying to reconstruct areas of one curve from another curve. Node tool now allows for lasso selection of nodes by holding the Alt/Option key and dragging a selection lasso. Pencil tool now offers a 'sculpt' mode that allows for extending or manipulating curves in a more natural way. More to come in this area soon. Many tools now allow for 'Alignment widgets' which you can toggle the visibility of in the context toolbar. When enabled you can visually adjust the alignment or even, for example, 'align to centre, snapped to the left edge of this object' by simply click/dragging. Fill tool correctly allows editing of skewed fill handles and newly-created skewed fills draw much nicer now. Ruler origin can be edited by simply dragging the area where the rulers intersect each other - it can even be snapped onto objects in the document. Guides can be edited in most tools by simply dragging a guide in the ruler area. Grid setup is now more interactive: origin can be dragged, axis scale adjusted and angle adjusted on-document, complete with snapping to objects and angles in the document to help you reconstruct useful grids from finished artworks or sketches. By enabling 'Edit in Plane' on the new Isometric Panel, tools can edit objects and appear to make those edits along the currently active plane - extremely useful for artists who enjoy working with any axonometric projections. You can now drag the rotation centre point (when enabled on the context toolbar) while holding Ctrl and it will translate the object - this is actually very useful for positioning and snapping objects relative to others. Shapes tools now have presets so you can create your own favourite shape setups and more easily use them again. There are just far too many subtle tool changes to mention here, but hopefully you'll find the tools much improved General Arrowheads are now available in the Stroke Panel. New Appearance Panel allows for multiple strokes and fills on a single shape. HDR / EDR monitor support New brushes, styles and assets are now shipped with the product. Visible bleed (accessed from the View menu) so you can more easily design into the bleed area - a common feature request. “Alternate futures” for document history have been added. Traditionally, if you roll back the undo history then do something else all your changes after that point are lost. Designer will now display a small branch icon in the history tab when you do this. Pressing that button will cycle between all the different “futures” after that history entry - meaning you will never lose work you have done. New 'Isometric Panel' makes it easy to setup and work with various axonometric projections within the application. HEIF images can now be loaded directly into Designer. If they contain a depth map, this will also be loaded as a second layer. Because depth maps are typically lower resolution than the main image, optional “smart” upsampling will be performed. Designer now supports custom document presets - a popular feature request. A new blend mode - Linear Burn - has been added. Layers Panel now allows you to tag individual layers with a colour and display thumbnails with transparent backgrounds and at different sizes. New “Move inside / outside” commands have been added - useful for quickly clipping/unclipping. New "Merge curves/Separate curves" commands. Grids now have an editable number of angle subdivisions. The Hard Mix blend mode has been improved. Numerous text improvements have been made - including new features such as bullets and numbering. Significant PDF import / export improvements and fixes. Improved Freehand import slightly - failing to read all of a file shouldn't force it to produce a 'failed to load' response, instead we just load the bits that we *could* read New splash screen and Persona icons Brushes Designer 1.7 introduces a new “sub-brush” mechanism, developed in conjunction with Paolo Limoncelli (DAUB® Brushes). This exciting feature allows any raster brush to have a list of other brushes attached which will draw at the same time. Each sub-brush has a fully separate and customisable set of dynamics. You can control when the sub-brushes are drawn and how they blend with the main brush. Symmetry (up to 32-way) is now supported - including on-canvas controls and optional mirroring. Wet edges and accumulation are now available on colour brushes and brushes with HSL variance. Brushes with multiple nozzle textures have always chosen the nozzle at random. In 1.7, the nozzle choice has a dynamic controller and ramp for greater control. All pixel brush tools now support left and right arrow keys for rotation - a common feature request. Adjustments The HSL adjustment layer has been rewritten. It now supports custom hue ranges, a new algorithm, new UI and picker controls. The Levels adjustment layer now supports output levels - a common feature request. The White Balance adjustment layer has been rewritten. The Selective Colour adjustment layer has been rewritten. PSD import / export of adjustments has been improved. The Vibrance adjustment layer has been rewritten. The Recolour adjustment layer has gained a lightness slider. Return to 1.6 Text Styles?

Is there any way to get the text styles back from Designer 1.6? I'm absolutely LOVING the 1.7 update and I'm grateful to not have to use Adobe but these 1.7 text styles are just awful. The ones from 1.6 were much better, even if there were only around 4 or 5.
  4. Hey again :-) I do transit maps (diagrams) for fun in my spare time to relax. Here is another one of my recent works: the Sarajevo Tram and Trolleybus Network in my own interpretation (unofficial of course). By the way: there is no official diagram and a pride month edition as there aren't official colors too. The whole map is entirely done with Affinity Designer. If you have any thoughts on it or feedack this is much appreciated. Have a great day! Chris
  5. Latest version of Affinity designer installation keeps failing. Only one topic here addresses such similar case, in which a solution is to do a clean reboot. Wich won't cut it, in my case. As I attempt installation, by pressing "update" in the setup/installation-wizard window. It will say "preparing" and some loading bar will fill up real quick, when full or almost full, it'll simply & plainly display a "failed" in the window. This happens when I try and install the latest version, I already have affinity designer installed. Is that mabey the problem? I just don't want to find myself in a situation where I have uninstalled affinity designer and still it won't work...like me if it won't ha ha. I'm running it in Windows 8.1
  6. In this lesson we set up a document inside of Affinity using guides to create bleeds. Then we go on to create a business card. Check it out and go create. https://youtu.be/tDxQaOVVWrg *Please note that this was created in 2015 using version 1.2, there have been a lot of updates since and the upcoming release of 1.7 will solve my work arounds for this tutorial. 7. Hi, I'm having a problem similar to the one described in the thread here. I want to export my line art which is a vector (see screenshot ‘Before import’) from Affinity Designer to Affinity Photo in order to colour. I export in a PNG format, import into Affinity Photo, zoom in and that's when I notice the lines look really jagged (see screenshot ‘After export with colour’). I understand that the vector gets turned into pixels during export, but I want to make the lines look smoother. Before using Affinity Designer and Photo, I was working with Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. My workflow back then was to export the vector from Illustrator as a PNG 'without background' to Photoshop. In Affinity Designer I have tried different PNG preset settings (see screenshot ‘Export settings’) including PNG-24 Bilinear, Bicubic, Lanczos 3 (separable), Lanczos 3 (non-separable) all ‘without background’ selected. But all resulted in the same jagged line. I tried the solutions mentioned in the thread above. However when I click ‘Force pixel alignment’ the quality in Affinity Photo doesn’t seem to change. Would someone on the support team know if I need to do something different in Affinity Designer so that when I import the vector in Affinity Photo there’s not a noticeable difference?
  8. After the 1.6 update, the expand stroke function that wasn't accurate with rounded rectangles before, now is completely broken (see screenshot of a rounded rectangle, circle, and a cog). Upd. It seems to happen only in certain affinity files, not all of them. Regards, Anton
  9. Hello, I am a very longtime Serif software user. Over the years I have had the following products. Serif Drawplus 4 Serif Drawplus 6 Serif Drawplus 7 Serif Drawplus 8 Serif Drawplus X2 Serif Drawplus X4 Serif Drawplus X8 Serif Webplus 10 I still use Serif Drawplus X8 almost exclusively, though I own a more recent version of CorelDraw. I prefer Drawplus overall. I would like to move to Affinity Designer soon, however, for the past 5 YEARS I have seen threads again and again with an employee claiming that gradient mesh is on the road map. I absolutely cannot switch to any product that does not offer gradient mesh as I use it in almost every project I create. There is no better way to produce a photo realistic nose on a face in my opinion. I simply will not buy a program without it while I can use Drawplus, CorelDraw, or even Inkscape and find the tool there. I have been waiting, for five years, to see an announcement that Affinity Designer has gradient mesh. I am almost done waiting. I need to know, definitively, will it come out this calendar year? If not, I will permanently move to CorelDraw. I would very much prefer to stick with you. Can you please give me more information than a vague statement that it is on a roadmap? Roadmaps typically finish out in less than half a decade. Is this actually going to occur? If you decided not to do it, that is fine. I am okay with moving to another product but I am tired of waiting for something this board was told in 2016 would eventually come out. Please have the courtesy to tell a life long supporter of your products if this is worth waiting for or not. Thank you.
  10. I have downloaded the latest version of Affinity Designer (and upgrade to 1.7) and Photo. The Photo download was successful but I can't get Designer to open. Once I choose the "download" button, I am never asked for my email or product key. I have uninstalled and reinstalled more than once and still can't get it to open. The message I get after the download is "setup completed successfully". I've tried opening projects I've designed and nothing happens. I've spent a lot of time trying to figure this out but I'm not having any luck. Here are some details: I purchased my original version of Designer in 2017 I am attempting to download Designer 1.7 I'm using Windows 10 v.1803 64 bit I get the message that the set up completed successfully Designer will not open I appreciate any help or suggestions you can provide. Thank you!
  11. Basically, I'm fairly new to Affinity Designers and recently got a drawing tablet. When I use a mouse to use the vector brush tool it is not shifted/wobbly. But, when I draw the same line with my VEIKK A30 drawing tablet it is all wobbly and shaky. I know I don't have the stabilizer on but, I don't like the way it functions. (I know that's how stabilizers work and are behind the point of your pen but, why are they straight when drawn with the mouse.) Below, is a screenshot I took as an example. You can see the pen settings above in the bar so, please if you see anything wrong point it out. I don't know what I'm doing wrong but, I see numerous videos of Affinity Designer on YouTube where they are drawing straight lines without the stabilizer on...
  12. The toolbar has changed (at least for me) since the new update and I cannot figure out how to find the Snap Icon and the Alignment Icon. Can someone please tell how to find those? I know it is a pretty stupid question, but I am really frustrated.
  13. I'm just wondering ... I have 10+ years work in CorelDraw (I've had an Adobe Illustrator license too, but somehow I never liked AI). So now I want to switch to Affinity Designer. But apparently I can't just go and open my old .cdr CorelDraw files. I'd have to convert them to .ai Adobe Illustrator files (and potentially lose line widths etc, anyway it's a tedious extra step). Are there any plans to have Designer open .cdr files?
  14. Is it possible to select multiple lines or objects in Affinity Designer by color or stroke thickness? Like in Adobe Illustrator you can select all lines by a color fill or stroke thickness. This is very important for me to have this function to be able to select colors on my architectural line drawings and quickly change the thicknesses of a color group ive previously made a specific color. Thank you!
  15. I recently bought a Surface Pro with the intent of using it for design work. I know that Serif recently released Affinity Designer on the Windows Store, but I still had an extra machine on my license, and the only way to obtain the Windows Store version was to buy it all over again. So I just downloaded the PC version from Serif's site and plugged my code in. I've been trying and trying and I can't quite adapt to Designer on a touchscreen, like I did easily with Clip Studio Paint's Surface interface. If there are any undo/redo, zoom, etc gestures, I can't find them. I can't tell if there are settings within Designer I can't find that will make for an easier Tablet Mode experience, or if I've yet to properly optimize my device itself for art/design work (I hear people talk about using plug-ins that make the Surface Pen's button deploy a radial menu, but I've had no luck finding anything specific). Or did I mess up downloading (and applying my license to) the version downloaded from the website; is it only the Windows Store version that's touchscreen-friendly?
  16. I have attached a Dropbox link to a PDF version of the Affinity Designer IPad apps built in Help file. You can open this file in a reader or iBook and view it while using Designer. I hope you find it as useful as I do. Please note that this PDF is not in any way supported by Affinity, nor are they responsible for any errors or omissions, so please do not refer any errors or omissions in the Document to Affinity. Every attempt has been made (by me) to ensure the content is an accurate representation of the built in Help file, however some errors 'may' have slipped through . I will endeavour to keep it up to date (at least for a little while) . When Publisher comes out I may redo the layout (Pages is a little limited in the area of indexing). My Dropbox account is basic and limits daily bandwidth, hopefully that won’t be a problem. Here's the link to the folder. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/wulycsq0un4uo6i/AACz5hvGbGrteZB4E9q_HPI5a?dl=0 UPDATE The folder now contains two files. Thanks to the efforts of Glenn, the original file size has been reduced to a mere 14MB, with little loss of resolution. Enjoy Dave
  17. I really loved how Affinity Designer for the iPad is designed very intuitively for touch. But it would be much better if there would be better keyboard support like having more keyboard shortcuts or customizable keyboard shortcuts. Also having support for modifier keys like holding alt/opt for maintaining aspect ratio when resizing an image. Or holding space to drag an object or pan the screen. Thanks!
  18. We are pleased to announce a major update for the iPad release of Affinity Designer, version 1.7.0 The changes in Affinity Designer for iPad 1.7.0 over the last Affinity Designer patch 1.6.4 are as follows: CHANGES SINCE LAST VERSION • Shortcut modifiers added when keyboard is attached• Arrowheads!• Node tool now has transform mode for more freeform editing of nodes• Node tool now allows for lasso selection of nodes• Alignment widgets have been added for much faster alignment operations• All new isometric controls - allowing you to create and edit directly in any isometric plane• Add multiple strokes and fills to a single shape with the new Appearance Studio• New point transform tool, allowing you to scale and rotate objects from any node• Many grid improvements, and new column guides• Many PSD import / export improvements• Layers Studio now includes options for transparent backgrounds and colour tagging.• Pixel persona now supports Sub Brushes, symmetry (up to 32-way) and on-the-fly nozzle rotation• Alternate futures for document history have been added• 100s of other bug fixes and improvements - too many to list! This thread is for commenting on this announcement. Please do not post bugs or problems that you find when using this version of the software in this thread, instead make a new thread in the Designer Bugs on iPad section and questions about usage go in the iPad Questions forum. UPDATING TO THIS VERSION (Free for existing customers) For updates from the iPad Store are done automatically (next time you run after it is available in the store). You need to be logged in as the same user who bought the application. Open iPad store, go to Updates. Once you're there, from the top bar choose Store and on the dropdown click Refresh. It worked for me - both updates appeared instantly. If they dont' theres no point asking us we cannot make it appear quicker. Apple sometimes phase roll outs around the world sometimes taking up to 24 hours.
  19. Hello developer, it's been a year since I pointed out a brush problem in the Affinity Designer but unfortunately I haven't found an adequate solution in the current release (1.7.0.380) yet. Will it be further developed in this direction or not and can I expect an implementation of a Vector Brush Tool at all?
  20. Hello Affinity Team, I have a problem with the function "vector brush" or brush on curve and I wanted that my created brush is anchored horizontally instead of turning in the vector curve. My idea was that with the Vector or Curve I get more influence on the drawn objects like brush width, Size Variance etc. without the objects changing their angle position. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find a switch yet. Is this a case for your to-do list or do you already have this feature in the feature roadmap? Here are some examples when I assign a brush to a curve: Actual result : Expected result: Actual result : Expected result: Actual result : Expected result: Actual result : Expected result: Brush live arranged: Approach to my drawing idea which unfortunately didn't work out:

  22. Hi there! First thanks for reading my query, I really appreciate that. To my issue: I'm having problems exporting .svg files as (for example) .png files. They show me some weird lines around each vector - which shouldn't be the case really. Worst thing is that you can see that in the final result, rendering the product/effort almost useless. I will provide an example in the attachments, but what I do is just opening (or placing) the .svg file - resizing it - exporting it (with the PNG-24 preset). I'm using "Vector magic" to create these .svgs and they seem fine in the preview, as well as the .png exported from vector magic. Problem is as soon as I open the .svg in affinity designer (in order to edit them) hell breaks loose Thank you so much for helping me! Best regards Marvin M. #I'm using affinity designer 1.6.5.135 Normal_SVG_preview_in_chrome.svg
  23. Hello, I was wondering if within Affinity Designer is there a "Free transform tool" to allow perspective distort with shapes, this is something that can be done within illustrator where you can take two points and can move them together or further apart with equal distance like the example below. You can kinda do this with the "Corner" tool set to straight but this is set to only one angle when perspective distort can change the angle. Thank you for your time and I hope you have a great day.
