In seconds you can create stunning 3D effects from any Font. I show you 2 methods how to create the faux 3D Text. The first create a cool effect by clearly leaving the individual Layers visible. The second fake 3D Text effect covers up the rough edges and connects everything with a smooth gradient. 2. Hey :-) This time kind of an open transit diagram design Just throw in your ideas, suggestions, corrections (transliteration)! I'll try to incorporate them as much as possible. My tiny side project of the trams in irkutsk I appreciate any feedback! Have a nice day, Chris
  3. Hey! I make transit maps and diagrams for fun in my spare time after work. This time I'd like to show you my side project of this weekend! I was not quite happy with the official map so did a quick redesign on Friday and Saturday. Here is my unofficial transit diagram of the integrated commuter rail network in the Bratislavský kraj (Bratislava area). Have fun with it! Feedback is appreciated and corrections as well.

So I continue to learn and discover the possibilities of AD. I am posting here an illustration for my future website. I used here the "Tattoo Art Brushes" for some effects of shadows and textures. The critics are welcome.
  6. Hi, Affinity Designer is very slow on Mac OS 10.15. (I use a 2016 MacBook Pro) The launch is fast, but it takes more than one minute for the interface to display. Is this slowness specific to me? Otherwise, do you plan to release an update soon?
  7. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on how to make a poster similar to Obama's "hope" poster. I've seen a a few tutorials done using photoshop but im reluctant to try those because i know i would get lost eventually trying to follow along on affinity photo. Anywho, does anyone have a good tutorial they could link me? Thank you. If there are none to be found then its ok. i just wanted to try it out. My Favorite learning tool so far have been youtube videos where i can follow along. thanks.

  10. Hi, Can anyone please help me with these mitres. I want all corners to be pointed and no matter what I do I can't find consistency. There are three examples in the attached files. The top example, when I zoom out changes to a flat edge for some reason. What are the best settings to get a sharp point every time? Thanks in advance, Martigny Mitres.afdesign
  11. Hello designers, sorry for not posting lately, I was working on a more complex project and I'm glad that I finish it and also I'm happy that I can share it with you. Let me know what you think:

    First Post

Hi all. I've been playing around with the trial version of Affinity Designer for the last few days and so far I'm really liking it. I've dipped in and out of art as a hobby for quite a long time and just recently decided to dip back in. Here's something I did today. I based this on a randomly generated description of a critter. I've always been shy about sharing my work, but I'm trying to get over that. Even though it's only a hobby and something I can only devote a few hours a day to, I am interested in improving. Does anyone have any suggestions as to places I can post my work to get feedback? I know people post to places like Instagram and Imgur (which I've done), but those aren't really places geared towards getting criticisms of your work. A downvote on Imgur doesn't really give you a good idea of what you need to improve. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!
  15. I was trying to punch holes out of a shape, and noticed that I was able to subtract shapes made with the Rectangle tool, but not the Oval tool. The problem happens 100% of the time if I am trying to subtract from the specific shape in my sample file. (That particular base shape was the product of a random SVG download and then a handful of other binary operations.) If I draw a new primitive shape, then I can subtract ovals from it just fine. This is happening in Designer for Windows version 1.7.3.481. binary ops bug.afdesign

  20. Exported a document with text written using Roboto font to PDF in AD. But, it's appearing like this: The issue seems to be with the Thin variant only. Tried AP and there were no issues!
  21. I have a scanned image that I’m trying to edit that I’ll eventually export for cutting on a Cricut. Trying to figure out if Photo (or Design) on iPad has the ability to scale/resize a layer or object based upon a reference object? eg: I’ve got a photo of ruler that I imported, I now want to scale and deskew the photo so the objects in the image are actual size and proportionally correct. For scaling, I could create a 1” square and then try to scale the imported image to align with the 1” square, but this is complicated as there doesn’t seem to be a way to designate an arbitrary point as the anchor point for the scale operation. Is there a simpler way? I’m used to this sort of technique in CAD (And even Photoshop) where you select an object, define an anchor point, a reference point, and then the third point moves the reference point to the new location scaling the whole object proportionally. Similarly I would also need to deskew the image (remove any keystone effects from perspectives) but can’t seem to figure out how this is done within Affinity. I don’t see how I would do arbitrary transform of an image at all (other than in the limited transform studio on the right side). Is there a way to do this or something similar in Affinity?

Meetups or Trainings in Washington, DC

I am looking for designers who use either Affinity Designer or Photo to learn and create with in the Washington, DC. This may not be the best platform to say this, but wanted to start somewhere. Hope to hear from someone soon.
  23. Hello, I am a very longtime Serif software user. Over the years I have had the following products. Serif Drawplus 4 Serif Drawplus 6 Serif Drawplus 7 Serif Drawplus 8 Serif Drawplus X2 Serif Drawplus X4 Serif Drawplus X8 Serif Webplus 10 I still use Serif Drawplus X8 almost exclusively, though I own a more recent version of CorelDraw. I prefer Drawplus overall. I would like to move to Affinity Designer soon, however, for the past 5 YEARS I have seen threads again and again with an employee claiming that gradient mesh is on the road map. I absolutely cannot switch to any product that does not offer gradient mesh as I use it in almost every project I create. There is no better way to produce a photo realistic nose on a face in my opinion. I simply will not buy a program without it while I can use Drawplus, CorelDraw, or even Inkscape and find the tool there. I have been waiting, for five years, to see an announcement that Affinity Designer has gradient mesh. I am almost done waiting. I need to know, definitively, will it come out this calendar year? If not, I will permanently move to CorelDraw. I would very much prefer to stick with you. Can you please give me more information than a vague statement that it is on a roadmap? Roadmaps typically finish out in less than half a decade. Is this actually going to occur? If you decided not to do it, that is fine. I am okay with moving to another product but I am tired of waiting for something this board was told in 2016 would eventually come out. Please have the courtesy to tell a life long supporter of your products if this is worth waiting for or not. Thank you.
  24. As a surface pattern designer I have historically used Adobe photoshop to create stand-alone repeating patterns with or without backgrounds that are also designed to incorporate texture and/or pattern. The resulting designs were saved as "defined patterns" and applied to artboards of any size using the following steps: edit——define pattern—-ok Open new document e.g. 10,000x10,000px edit—-fill—-contents (select pattern option as opposed to foreground or background fill) ——select required pattern from a list—-ok While I am very happy at the switch to Affinity I am struggling to figure out how to visually proof my designs this way (which are often designed using 2000px square artboards to create the repeat) when I need to be able to show that the repeat is working and simultaneously put the size it was created at into perspective. Also, some websites require large areas of repeat (up to 15,000px square) to enable on demand printing of fabric in the specific design. I have attached a couple of examples below to demonstrate the kind of work that I am discussing here. As a designer who is relatively new to digital systems I am focused on the creative aspect of my work and not especially tech savvy, so would appreciate an “idiots guide” approach to this if anyone has the time to respond. Any support with this would be much appreciated. Kind regards
  25. A post on Facebook prompted me to make this image. Tutorialmeister Carl Surry posted a link to this tutorial by Michael Wilson: Here's my effort: and the figure I started off in AP with a couple of stock images, the background by J C Gellidon from Unsplash and the figure by Radu Florin from Pexels. The 'portal' began as an ellipse; actually a circle which I deformed with the Perspective Tool to make it appear parallel to the shop fronts. The flare is a trapezium rotated onto its side. Some clipping, masking, gradients, transparency (in Designer) produced the lighting effect, and I added a pixel layer to paint a few highlights on the right-hand side. Here's the aphoto file: AlleyPortal-000bSMALL.afphoto
