  1. I can’t seem to sort my macros and brushes library on iPad, I would like to put some categories under other categories in a series that is logic to me. Or am I missing something? Is it only possible on desktop version?
  2. Known Issues AFP-6125 - Brush Highlights do not trigger after app restart until new brush is selected. Further known issues will be added to this list as they are reported to us by customers in this thread. Fixed Issues PD-315 - Brush Panel - Light UI contrast issues AFD-6393- Show as list/Show Brush Names missing from Designer on Windows AFD-6395 - Pixel brush in use highlight, loses focus when resized using ctrl alt L click drag AFD-6414 - MacOS - When a brush is deleted the blue highlight moves to the unselected brush below PD-338- Brush names are not aligned to the left on Windows AFD-6427 - Mac/iOS: Deleted brushes reappear in brush panel when app is restarted. AFP-5999- Windows: Brush duplicated via Alt + Left Click is incorrectly highlighted when original brush is resized AFD-6494 - [iPad] Auto-Switch category does not trigger when swapping between Personas AFP-6084 - Cannot adjust pixel brush size using CTRL + ALT/Option + Left Click
  3. Same for me on both iPad and MacOS except my brushes seem to sync but most of the other images, etc fail with the 'missing propcol' error during the 'install'. Rebooting, etc has no effect. Edit: I should add that I only see this actual error message on MacOS Monterey 12.6. On my iPad the Affinity apps simply crash when attempting to install the asset. Downloads with out error but crashing on the install.
  4. So I know there's a thread that has been going on since 2018 asking for this, but your Twitter social manager mentioned posting again Being able to import palettes, similar to brushes, is such a key feature that's missing from the iPad version of Affinity Designer and Photo, and it's honestly a painfully awful user experience not having it. Please add this to your roadmap to increase QoL for your users and to help your apps have a greater impact, as I'm positive a lot of people would appreciate it. Thanks!
  5. I’m unable to use most of the add-ons after trying to do a full download of the whole set - can see them all progress through download stage and installation, but they then report that download has failed (“missing propcol”). Tried fully removing the add-ons, reinstalled the v2 apps, retrying… get the same result. iPadOS 15.7.1. Trying to install one add-on at a time makes no difference.
  6. Yeah, RIP $200, lol. I’m not sure if changing the color output works on IPad or not. It’s been a while since I tried. Also without the Tabmate, my workflow is so slow in CSP. Procreate is a great software, it is lacking in adjustment layers and clipping masks to groups as well as a lasso fill tool, but I’m getting more used to the simplicity of it and rather enjoy it. If AF were to implement more elements of digital paint software brushes & setting like in Procreate, it would be the ultimate all-in-one suite for me. 😇 I do like what they got as far as brush creation goes, it’s just missing some features that would truly make it stellar.
  7. I move back and forth between Affinity Designer and Procreate quite a bit and I think the only real edge in usability that I'm missing is drawing straight lines with the pixel brushes. The 'pull and hold' feature in Procreate is so much quicker and more effective that using the pen tool, and more stable that the two finger hold in Designer (which doesn't really work reliably). Is there anything in the works here? Would be amazing. Thanks!
  8. Photo on iPad is missing some UI elements (vs. Desktop) so it is sometimes impossible to correct on iPad. never the less, applying a style solved the issue on iPad. Actually i don’t know what caused the issue, but non basic brushes show a tendency to break some functions. Only a guess.
  9. I got a discounted iPad Air 3 myself because I already had a Gen 1 Apple Pencil for my iPad Mini, so I saved myself the extra cost. AD works just fine on it for me. In terms of stands, I've been through a few and find most either 1) place the bottom edge too close to the table surface, or 2) have too tall of an edge along the bottom that starts cutting across the side of my hand. I use a two-finger glove like the type you find on Amazon along with the leg part of an old sock which I cut and folded over and stitched to wear around my wrist because I wear a medical ID bracelet that I don't want to scratch whatever screen I'm working on. What I ended up with is an old laptop stand that puts the iPad up off the tabletop, meaning I don't have to slouch, and has a very shallow bottom edge. This, I attached to a bar stool which lets me wrap my legs around the thing and really get over the drawing surface, causing less back & neck pain than when I try the same on a desk where I can't get my chair close enough. I ink about 15-20 panels a day this way. In terms of drawability, after more than a month of testing, I found that Procreate feels more natural when using raster/pixel. The lines from the #4 pencil just look more natural than either Affinity Designer in pixel mode or Affinity Photo. But I have since switched to drawing/inking using vector brushes and with that I use Designer, because I haven't been able to find any other app that does so much, has all of the features I need, and doesn't require a subscription. And between using a drawing tablet with a built-in display versus using AD on the iPad, I use the iPad pretty exclusively now because of the ability to rotate and zoom with my fingers. (The drawing tablet drives me nuts now when I try using it.) And two-finger tap to Undo. (Though three-finger tap to Redo is near impossible because I have the two-finger glove and hold a pencil.) My other hand is on a bluetooth numeric keyboard which I've set for the most common actions I use. Really wish Serif would fix the usability issues with their apps, though. Can't delete with delete key, Deselect key command still doesn't work which causes me all kinds of issues, and keyboard shortcuts missing for such obvious things as increase/decrease bush size, undo/redo, etc. Best money you could spend now is to get a paper-like matte finish for the iPad. (Doesn't necessarily have to be the Paper-like brand.) You'll wear down pencil tips a bit faster, but it is much, much better to draw on.
  10. So I'm having some issues with affinity designer. I recently purchased a set of brushes with vector patterns for AD. The brushes installed no problem. The issue I'm having is with the patterns ( vector pattern swatches ) - I can't seem to import them. I can load one set and they come in as symbols. The problem here is that dark them of AD makes them practically invisible because they are black lines, and the symbols palette is dark, so they vanish into the dark background. Perhaps there is a better way to describe my conundrum. I want to make some illustrations that use pin & ink style strokes along with some halftones. I would tackle something like this in my illustrator days ( if I recall it's been a LONG TIME ) by making some complex shapes and adding pattern fills from a swatch palette. I've read about making a shape, and selecting fill, type and then bitmap.. but of course this doesn't work, as my swatches are vectors and they are not selectable from this option. Also, what a pain in the butt this would be to use all the time?? Is there something I'm missing? I'm going to attach a sample of the style I'm going for, for references and perhaps somehow could help? When I look at these images, to me, I see a lot of shapes, with fills, probably gradients to the pattern fill, and clipping masks. How do I utilize vector patterns in AD for ipad for custom shapes? Is there a way?
  11. Status: Release Candidate Purpose: Features, improvements, fixes. Requirements: TestFlight Acceptance. App Store: Not submitted Hello, We are pleased to announce the immediate availability of the latest beta of Affinity Photo 1.7 for iPad. Photo 1.7 is a (very) significant change to the currently shipping 1.6 version, so, as ever, I would strongly urge users to avoid the 1.7 beta for critical work. This is a pre-release build of 1.7 - we may release more builds before 1.7 ships. Things could still be broken in this build - please use it to explore the new features and not for real work. Please note that any 1.6 documents you load into this beta will subsequently fail to load back into 1.6 - please make copies first! If this is your first time using a customer beta of an Affinity app, it’s worth noting that the beta will install as a separate app - alongside your store version. They will not interfere with each other at all and you can continue to use the store version for critical work without worry. With all that said, we hope that you will enjoy the new capabilities introduced in this release and we look forward to any and all feedback you give to us. Many thanks (as always), Affinity Photo Team Changes Since Last Beta - A much more complete set of keyboard shortcuts - pretty much everything which is available in the macOS product is now available on iOS. - If you apply the crop tool using a preset, it will be remembered for next time. - Fixed crashes in Procedural Texture UI, especially when being used a live filter. - Snapshots can now be set as the undo brush source (ie. the button now works). - Rationalised the tools shows in Apple Pencil double-tap preferences. Added missing option to the erase brush. - Blemish tool performance improvements. - Fixes for unsharp mask at small radii. - Improved brushing performance when texture mode is “nozzle”. - Fixed annoying lag at the end of brush strokes. - Batch processing now shows a progress bar. - Added “Selection from Layer” to selections persona. - Refactored resize document UI (was too long). - Assorted small fixes. - Localisation tweaks. Changes Since 1.6 Release Performance - Second generation Metal hybrid compositor, now 100% shared code with macOS Photo 1.7. All Metal accelerated features are now significantly faster - sometimes by over 100%. - We have tweaked a number of app features to work better on both new and old iPad hardware. UI - All UI has been reworked aiming to make the usable area of the canvas bigger and the controls less intrusive. - A new “monochromatic iconography” switch has been added to preferences - it does the same as the desktop version. - The small buttons on the content bar (without labels) are gone. Brushes - Significant improvements in brushing performance and responsiveness. - Photo 1.7 introduces a new “sub-brush” mechanism, developed in conjunction with Paolo Limoncelli (DAUB® Brushes). This exciting feature allows any brush to have a list of other brushes attached which will draw at the same time. - Symmetry (up to 32-way) is now supported - including on-canvas controls and optional mirroring. - Wet edges and accumulation are now available on colour brushes and brushes with HSL variance. - Brushes with multiple nozzle textures have always chosen the nozzle at random. In 1.7, the nozzle choice has a dynamic controller and ramp for greater control. - ABR brush import has been improved - preserving controller options correctly. RAW - The denoise algorithm has been rewritten. - Added support for CR3 RAW. - Show which autofocus rectangles were in focus and which were selected by the camera (yellow, green respectively). Filters - New “Voronoi” filter. - Denoise, Clarity and Shadows / Highlights filters have been rewritten (using technology from the Develop Persona). - More filters are now available as Live Filters - including the new Procedural Texture filter. - Live filters have been rewritten to improve performance - especially when multiple filters are used in a document. - Improved Polar to Rectangular and Rectangular to Polar filters. - Added round dot type to the halftone filter. - Bilateral blur accuracy improvements. - New “Procedural Texture” filter with advanced presets support. - New “List mode” - like adjustments. - Ability to add Live Filters directly from the filters studio - avoiding rasterisation. Adjustments - The HSL adjustment layer has been rewritten. It now supports custom hue ranges, a new algorithm, new UI and picker controls. - The Levels adjustment layer now supports output levels - a common feature request. - The White Balance adjustment layer has been rewritten. - The Selective Colour adjustment layer has been rewritten. - PSD import / export of adjustments has been improved. - The Vibrance adjustment layer has been rewritten. - The Recolour adjustment layer has gained a lightness slider. Layers - Layers page - added ability to tag layers with a colour - including PSD round-trip. - Layers page now has optional checkerboard behind layer previews. - New “Duplicate Selection” item in Layer menu (old behaviour). Duplicate now duplicate the whole layer ignoring pixel selection. - Hide / Show / Show All Layers options in layers menu. - Ability to either rasterise or rasterise and trim a layer. Previously recorded macros will trim. - Allow adding an empty group from the Layer menu. Selections - Significant improvements to selection refinement. - When using selection tools with no pixel selection, default to New / Add as appropriate. - Added “Alpha Similarity” to Select Sampled Colour tool. Tools - The Crop tool has been rewritten - it now supports resolution changes, absolute pixel size and has a much improved preset mechanism. - The Sponge Brush tool now gives more correct / pleasant results. - Added a “Reveal Canvas” checkbox to the crop tool - defaults to off. - Added new “Transform object separately” mode into Move tool. - A general tools overhaul has been performed - providing editing of grids, guides, page origin, across multiple tools (not just in the Move tool) - All brush tools can now be axis constrained once brushing has started - not just the pixel tool. - Preferences now has a spline for controlling pencil input pressure. - Preferences now allows you to assign actions to a pencil barrel double tap. - Guides tool improvements. History - “Alternate futures” for document history have been added. Traditionally, if you roll back the undo history then do something else all your changes after that point are lost. Photo will now display a small branch icon in the history tab when you do this. Pressing that button will cycle between all the different “futures” after that history entry - meaning you will never lose work you have done. - Snapshots are now available from the history panel. I/O - HEIF images can now be loaded directly into Photo. If they contain a depth map, this will also be loaded as a second layer. Because depth maps are typically lower resolution than the main image, optional “smart” upsampling will be performed. - TIFF export now has user selectable compression method. - Added support for 12bit TIFF files. - Introduced new metadata mining - completely rewritten to improve performance, flexibility and correctness. - Metadata is now dynamically synchronised with your document - so if you resize then export, the values will be correct. - Added Focal Length to metadata summary view. - Support 16bit CMYK TIFF import. General - Official support for iPad Air 3, iPad mini 5. - The “Stock” panel is now available in Photo iPad. Tap to search and long-press-drag to drop content into your document. - Batch processing is available. - "New Document" presets are now customisable. - Added new share extensions for Panorama, HDR Merge, Focus merge. If you select more than 1 image in, for example, the Photos or Files app then tap "Share" you will see new options to launch AP directly with those files. - Added an “Assets” panel to Photo. - The modifier keys on a hardware keyboard now work (alt, cmd, etc.). If you enable on-screen modifiers, a symbol has been added next to each one indicating which key it corresponds to. - New ability to control how macros are scaled / aligned when playing back. - Ability to create a document from the contents of the clipboard. - Add “Fill with Primary / Secondary” to the Edit menu for fast access. - “Lock guides” added to menus. - A new blend mode - Linear Burn - has been added. - The Hard Mix blend mode has been improved. - Numerous text improvements have been made - including new features. - Significant PDF import / export improvements and fixes. - Wonderful new samples. - Numerous bug fixes - too many to list!
  12. Work instruction in case of painting on pixel layer or masks are not working: (I will update this post based on you feedback) check if correct layer is selected Check layer opacity. Reset to 100% for test. Check layer blend mode Check layer blend options. Cycle through all color channels in both source and dest Check channels panel. Reset to activate show&edit of all channels check if correct brush is selected. Ha, it’s a joke. You can’t directly. So select a basic round brush. Ha, another joke. Designer doesn’t have basic brushes by default. So either re-import basic brushes, or select any other suitable brush. Check if protect alpha is activated. Uncheck. Check if correct color is selected. Check again that it’s the foreground color (not stroke or background). Check color opacity. Should be 100% for mortals. Check blend mode. Should be “normal” for mortals. Check opacity, flow, hardness. Reset all to 100% for test. Could adjust later. Check layer type is pixel (not image) Put layer in isolation mode (solo mode on iPad) Check surrounding layers (groups, filters). Copy single layer, create new file from clipboard. Inspect if painting works in new document. I’m sure this list is criminally incomplete. Please add missing check points.
  13. My most needed brushes are gone after 1.8.0! My Ipad app udated itself when I was working my art and now I can't finish my work. You just can't delete brushes! I want those brushes back! They where one of the default brushes in spray category.
  14. Dears I have a recent iPad pro, affinity designer works very well with vectors but as soon as I try to use textures brushes it become very slow, my document size 3000x2000 with 300 dpi. I think I’m missing some basic concept about brushes abut I already saw all the tutorials so I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong. Is this slowness normal? What I am missing? thank you very much!
  15. First off, congrats on the big release. Fantastic to see Affinity on the iPad (and just to see more serious tools on the iPad in general). Was flipping through WWDC news and saw the news and went "Wait, WHAT." Picked it up immediately. Great to see it at such a low price too (even without the introductory pricing). It's a really amazing package for $20. I use Procreate a lot for sketching and this is a great complement to that. Makes the overall illustration experience on the iPad feel a lot more complete. Some general thoughts after using it for a few days (apologies ahead of time if all of this has been said or I'm just missing something): - Performance is really impressive (12.9" iPad Pro). Zooming/panning, brush performance even with really large brushes, all super solid. Stability has also been great so far, no hard crashes to speak of yet. - Love the interface overall. I'm sure converting over the desktop interface to a tablet interface was no small trick, and I think you guys have nailed it. Few wrinkles here and there, but overall super slick. - Brushes, brushes, brushes. The brush system is great overall, but this has kind of been the big killer for me at the moment. You can't duplicate, move or update existing brushes near as I can tell, which makes it difficult to test and tweak new ones. Brush settings also aren't persistent, so if I'm switching between two different brushes I have to set the brush up every time I switch. I could set brushes up in Affinity on my Mac and import, but I like to futz with my brushes a lot, so that's not very practical. It would also be great if brushes had a small label in the overview list. - Having a dedicated Rotate tool seems odd when you can just zoom and pan at any time otherwise, but not rotate. I can rotate the iPad itself of course but it's not nearly as fast as doing it in software. Also that would be manual labor. - Lasso selection - this is kind of a personal style thing, but I tend to use lasso selections a lot. Right now I have to go through a lot of steps to get to the Selection persona, select the lasso tool, make my selection, go back to the Photo persona, paint in the selection, go back to to the Selection persona and deselect. A direct Lasso hotkey and Deselect hotkey would help a lot with that. - Eyedropper behavior is really inconsistent. I do love that you can hold to pull it up from the Brush tool while holding. I've had a bug a lot where it won't come up until I paint a stroke with my finger then try again. Also a fair amount of the time using the actual Eyedropper tool doesn't actually update the brush color. - Layers - love having good clipping masks. Would be great if layers were labeled with current blending mode. - Hotkeys - was a bit surprised hotkeys were in the first release at all, so that's awesome. Just keep adding more. Deselect hotkey. An official hotkey list would be great too (unless there is one and I've just missed it). I've been referencing the Mac hotkey list but they're definitely not one to one. - Export/file system - would be great to be able to open/save directly from Photos. Would also be nice if it remembered the last source I imported/exported from so I don't have to navigate to it every time. Airdrop support would be great. - Pencil support - would be great if different tools could be assigned to finger input vs. Pencil input. - Minor thing - if I unpin the Layer panel, then make a new layer, the panel closes and I have to open it again to move or adjust the layer. - Resizable interface elements would be cool. I want a color wheel big enough to sit my coffee mug in. Overall though, super impressive first release and really takes photo editing and illustration on the iPad up a massive notch. Really looking forward to where it goes in the coming months.
  16. Hi! Thank you very much for that grat app!! The dreams comes true! I know that it just has been presented and there is a lot os improvment stuff that other users are suggesting, so I also have some issues that could improve my (and, not only my, I hope) workflow! So there is 3 issues: 1: KEYBOARD SUPPORT: yeah, I am used to use the keyboard to make my workflow faster, so I am missing the basic combinations as Comand + C / Comand + V, key letters that allows to pass fast to an other tool and also Comand + D (duplicate) becasue when I work with smart duplicate and I want to repeat a lot of times some geometry it turns into very slow process. (The fisrt picture) Also I am missing the Comand + Z.. Shift + Comand + Z , etc. 2. BRUSHES IMPORT: I downloaded some brushes designed for desktop version of affinity designer and I wasn’t able to import them into the iPad version. I would like that it turns possible! 3. TRANSFORMATION TOOLS: I would like the the tranformation tools could be more precise! Like be able to set the center of rotation of some object (that it could be any part of canvas) or to be able to increase the size of some object exactly 50% more or 50% less. So I would like that the tranformation tools would be more similar to the Graphic tools (https://itunes.apple.com/es/app/graphic-for-ipad/id363317633?mt=8). (Second picture) Actualy, Graphic is amazing vector app for iPad and I was using them before the Affinity Designer but the most important advantage of the AD (there is a lot) is that this app is perffect for free / easy vector drawing and illustration when Graphic is more for technical stuff.
  17. Hi everyone, I am having an issue in which I will be painting as normal in pixel mode and then the next brush stroke will trigger a random deletion/vanishing of chunks of the layer I’m working on (like a glitch; it always has sharp edges. Sometimes it’s somewhat small and sometimes it’s half the layer like in the picture attached). It occurs every few hours but I’m not sure if something is triggering it. It is never the same size or texture as the paintbrush I’m using and seems to occur using all sorts of brushes. The real problem is that I also can’t recover the section missing. Undoing it does not bring back what was there in any recent history, nor does exiting the program or restarting my iPad. I either have to go far back in my undo history or just try to refill the section to get it back to what it looked like. Any ideas? Picture shows recent occrrance where almost all the layer is gone. There was previously almost complete shadowing on the entire face and now it just shows the light base layer underneath in most places.

UPDATING TO THIS VERSION (Free for existing customers) The software version can be seen on the splash screen and the About dialog (in application menu, Affinity Photo > About). If you’ve purchased from the Mac App Store— updates are done automatically next time you run your software after it is available in the Mac App Store. If this does not happen for you, open the Mac App Store app and go to the Updates page and then Store > Reload page or press CMD+R. This should hopefully force the update to show. Apple sometimes phase roll outs around the world which can mean it may take up to 72 hours for your update to be available. If you’ve purchased from the Affinity Store— each time you start the software it will check for updates and offer to download and install any available update, or in the application main menu there is an option Check for Updates. You can download the latest installer by logging into the affinity store here and find the order in your account and use the "download" button in there. Alternatively, this new release (and previous versions of Affinity Photo for macOS) can be downloaded from this link (that installer is NOT for Mac app store purchases and needs a product key). NOTE: This was originally released as 1.8.0 on the Affinity Store and the Mac App Store. Affinity Photo 1.8.0 on the Mac App Store had a permission missing that caused a problem with plugins. That build has been replaced with an otherwise identical 1.8.1 build. The Affinity Store version did not have this problem, but has been rebuilt to keep numbering systems in sync with the Mac App Store.
  19. The UI overhaul is much overdue, the tactileness and clickeyness of menus and drop-downs is just janky and wobbly, never feels right and I’m never sure of what I selected. The iPad’s cursor hover effect is there where it should be but sometimes oddly missing from where it should be; Don’t get me started on the layers and the masking interface; The glyph tool is missing, the “Blend with gamma” tool is literally not doing anything!, There’s no proper info panel. When you pan anywhere with two fingers, you get this incredibly blurriness and lag, sometimes I roll a dice with my friends and we gamble if the app is going to crash or not! The selection tool is UNBELIEVABLY terrible! It’s remarkable, how it automatically goes and uniformly “refines” all edges once you click it and it ruins your whole selection. For seven months I was using the brush tool for hair selection, you can even see it in my previous posts. I still have a photoshop subscription *just* for selections. The Photoshop engine cannot be even compared to this, and the lack of “decontaminate colors” is really disappointing. Yet, this all is still decades ahead of Adobe’s mobile apps, even tho Adobe’s underlying engines are much much better. Adobe’s file opening can handle my 250MP 16-bit panorama with smooth panning, Affinity was blurring the screen to the point where I don't even know if I got the real file working or a 1MP preview. Affinity’s selections aren’t the same. And the way Affinity interprets and works with many more-advanced Photoshop brushes is just funny; I think many things can be polished. But it’s just a question of time on when Adobe will catch up with the feature set, and then they will objectively win, even with their price point. We will come to a day when Adobe and Affinity have the same features, but Adobe has the superior app feel, superior design, performance, and engines. I did not come here to insult, no!!! I LOVE you guys and what you do! But you ARE in real danger, and I am scared because I don’t want to see you fall. I don’t know how much you can do with a flat $20 app fee for life. And maybe we’re expecting too much from you. I would even suggest adding a subscription model inside the app just for users who want to subscribe, don’t make it required, but let it be there. I would’ve personally paid much much more for your apps, especially if that would make them better, because I want them to be.
  20. I’ve noticed quite a few multiple feature request 'wish list' posting recently on the Affinity forums. I've an idea the posts might be born out of three areas of frustration (beyond people not reading the forum rules): Difficulty searching the forum to find the most relevant post. For example, 'knife tool' finds numerous posts, (12 forum pages worth!). Features/tools can be described in different ways. For example, 'cut tool', 'knife tool', 'scissors tool' etc. Essential/basic features have been missing or broken now for a long time. For example, true vector brushes, warp tool and faulty Boolean Divide operation.* I really thought Serif/Affinity were on the right track when they started off publishing a roadmap showing their future plans. At least it shared their thinking and priorities helping to manage users expectations. Of course with three main products and Windows, Mac and iPad variants, life is more complicated now. I'm not quite sure what the answer to all this is, ie to ensure Serif benefit and gain useful insight from any feedback and we (forum members) feel our voices have not fallen on deaf ears. I do feel this needs to be addressed as it's only going to get worse. There are already over 15,000 posts in the current Affinity Designer Feedback forum and even more (31,000) in the older feedback forum. At the end of the day I believe Affinity forum users need a quick and simple way to check that 'their' missing/broken tool or feature request has already been requested/reported and importantly has been properly considered and acknowledged by Serif staff. Thanks *(I recently managed to get over 900,000 objects dividing just 42 shapes. Although small credit to Affinity Designer, despite wasting a lot of time, it didn't crash, although it did take an equally long time to undo!) 😐
  21. I agree with much of what you are all saying. I love so much of what Affinity is doing and after so many years of waiting, we are finally seeing a contender in the ring to keep adobe honest and compete. I am excited to see the way the three apps work together, the universal file format, the ipad apps working seamlessly with the computer versions, the lack of subscription slavery, the intuitiveness of many of the ways it works. I generally prefer affinity’s pen tool to illustrator’s pen tool. i love the addition of the time-lapse video and I think it will be really useful to so many artists as They share their work. I’m glad to see they are adding find and replace and contour path to this next update - those were on my “need” list for a long time. All that said, it’s hard to understand and be patient with affinity when there are core features we feel are missing. My main goal is to be able to do my professional work without the need for adobe at all. Time-lapse is great, but it is not a necessity in the goal to leave adobe behind. Fixing the Boolean operations once and for all, adding a “merge” Boolean option so we can “cookie-cutter” shapes behind another (great for filling sections of negative space within a fill), the Boolean operations need to result in clean results, not missing sections and tons of extra nodes. We desperately need 100% pure vector brushes, text warp and shape warp, smooth tool, blob brush equivalent and vector eraser, a vector trace at some point (i bought vector magic a while back, so this one matters less to me personally). I’d love to be able to create bit maps like I currently do in photoshop and then import into illustrator - that can have some vector-like principals to them. I’m sure there are a few more that others deem indispensable as well. It feels like Designer has been somewhat neglected over the last few years. Although I also love Photo, I have not kept up with what they are offering as most of my professional work is pure vector. I understand why they removed the list of goals from the forum a while back - it can add a certain amount of pressure to their lives and apparently people were giving them grief on the forums over it. It’s equally hard for us to wonder how long these features will take to implement. Do i need to buy another intel Mac to keep CS6 alive another couple years or hold out and buy the next generation M1 apple computers? Will these needed features be added in the next year? Two years? I’d rather have these core functions and then add the extras like time lapse and other things later. I have other things I’d love to see added to affinity that can wait for the core features to be added first - like 3D text for example. perhaps many of these features are in development for version 2.0? I understand these things can take time, but many of us have been waiting several years for some of these features. We see others like Vectorstyler with many of these core features already implemented and frequent updates - if they can accomplish this, what keeps Affinity from doing the same? I don’t want to be overly critical of the Affinity team - I just want them to understand what is important to me and many and to acknowledge our concerns and maybe even give us an updated ideal set of goals.

  23. Hello, the stroke is very laggy on some brushes (gouaches…) on my Windows machines. What is strange is that given the same canvas resolution on my iPad pro (2018) and MacMini (2018) there is no perceptible lag with se same brushes (& sizes). Is there missing optimization on the Windows version or this a limitation of the renderer on Windows (compared to Metal) ? 24. Status: Beta Purpose: Features, Improvements, Fixes Requirements: Beta Access to TestFlight App Store: Not submitted Hello, We are pleased to announce the immediate availability of the first beta of Affinity Photo 1.8 for iPad. Photo 1.8 is a significant change to the currently shipping 1.7 version, so, as ever, I would strongly urge users to avoid the 1.8 beta for critical work. This is a pre-release build of 1.8 - we will release more builds before 1.8 ships. Things will be broken in this build - please use it to explore the new features and not for real work. If this is your first time using a customer beta of an Affinity app, it’s worth noting that the beta will install as a separate app - alongside your store version. They will not interfere with each other at all and you can continue to use the store version for critical work without worry. It’s also worth noting that we aren’t done yet - we are still working through reported bugs from previous releases and hope to fix as many as possible before the final release of 1.8. With all that said, we hope that you will enjoy the new capabilities introduced in this release and we look forward to any and all feedback you give to us.
