MmmMaarten got a reaction from NotMyFault in [Photo] How to fix/refresh wrong layer thumbnails?
I totally feel you, but honestly I have good hope that since their takeover they put more time and man power into actually fixing things that are in the software for so long. If so it could be a matter of time before nasty long standing issues will be fixed. I keep my fingers crossed for that. BTW I've also just responded to your v1-issue-thread above to @stokerg. Hopefully they will finally pick this up.

I‘ve lost all hope long time ago Affinity will ever become a mature product.
Number of newly raised bugs outperform number of fixed bugs tenfold - every release cycle.

Sometime if I add a random (shape) layer it forces the other thumbnails to refresh

Thumbnails seem 2nd class citizens, similar to histogram or scope panel. They get updates when Affinity feels ready, or not.
In some cases never.
Toggling layer visibility sometimes help, but not always.

Thanks, MmmMaarten.
I've heard that too...
I enjoy it; a bit of fun, really... 😀

MmmMaarten got a reaction from DelN in Oberon
Yeah, totally recognisable. I heard once somebody say that a good artist doesn't continue working on a piece forever until it is 'perfect', but knows when it is 'good enough'. I believe that true and think that's very healthy! Keep doing what you do, you have a distinct style

MmmMaarten reacted to DelN in Oberon
Wow! Thanks, MmmMaarten,
I'm glad you like it.
I wasn't sure about it myself and did about 4 or 5 version, then decided to go with that one. I just used a few of my 'Nature' brushes to paint in the ferns plants, trees and rocks and a few of my texture brushes for the hair. I used a layer blending mode to get the purple light over several layers of plants and textures. I used one of my 'Glitter' brushes for the lips and eyelids. It's all experimentation, really, to see what comes out of the chaos (ha-ha!). I was reading Shakespeare's 'A Midsummer Night's Dream', which inspired me...

MmmMaarten got a reaction from WKansepa in Please remove the "Clear " option from the Open Recent menu!
Adding a confirmation prompt, sure, completely valid. But to remove this function would be madness for obvious reasons.

'Oberon' (watches Titania while she sleeps)
Oberon to Robin Goodfellow (Puck): "...Fetch me that flower; the herb I showed thee once."
from 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' by William Shakespeare.
Created in Affinity Photo using my free 'Nature' brushes.

MmmMaarten reacted to Ali in [BUG] Affinity Publisher: Wrong page size (A3 instead of A4) shown in document settings with facing pages
You are completely wrong about this!!!
I am not sure I agree with your logic: an A4 double-page spread will be A3 size. I doubt it's a bug and I do not find it remotely confusing.

MmmMaarten reacted to Vepar in Please consider Linux as a viable platform - Microsoft is bleeding users to Linux because of their choices.
I've been using linux for 2 years now, and the only thing i have a WIndows partition for is Affinity software. There's literally nothing so advanced on Linux currently. There's a gaping hole in Linux ecosystem for professional Designer suite, and now that Affinity was bought by Canva, i hope one day, soon, there could be a linux version of Affinity software. With the relative maturity of flatpak there's no more argument of having to package the software for each different linux package manager, you can just have the one, flatpak, and honestly, i'd settle for having Affinity run through wine or proton if native version is too much to ask for.
More and more people are leaving Windows due to their anti consumer behaviour, ads, privacy concerns, and generally not being in control of the OS you have to pay for, and more and more people are choosing Linux as their new home.
There's a growing market and userbase that's just begging to pay for professional software like Affinity. Growing because of the insane decisions Windows keeps adding with each update.
Make history Affinity, be the first professional designer suite for Linux, and i'm sure a lot of people who are held hostage by an increasingly predatory OS will switch and thank you as well!
Currently, i still have my Affinity V1 licence, for my work that's enough, i still don't need what V2 has to offer. But, be it V2 or V3, please make it happen, it can't be that difficult to make it work on linux.

MmmMaarten got a reaction from NathanC in [2.6.3 Designer] Changing document size doesn't resize masks
Thanks for the quick action. I've just added to the opening post this: in Photo the Document --> Resize Document DOES work, so it looks like the issue is specific to Designer

MmmMaarten reacted to Hangman in SVG export : scale issue
Hi @Paige,
I believe the issue you're seeing is because Affinity apps use 72 dpi and Blender uses 96 dpi (as do most apps). Take a look at this post and see whether the workaround resolves the issue...
Based on the size your objects are appearing at in Blender, it suggests your Affinity Document is set to or is exporting at 90 dpi, i.e.,
((800 / 1000) x 100) = 80% ((1599.7 / 2,000) x 100 = 80% so ((72 / 90) x 100 = 80%

MmmMaarten reacted to NathanC in [2.6.3 Designer] Changing document size doesn't resize masks
Hi @MmmMaarten,
Thanks for raising this, looks like a regression as this is working as expected when I've checked in a previous build (v2.4.2), I'll get this logged.

MmmMaarten reacted to NotMyFault in [designer] How to paint on vector mask while seeing the image?
You can use a canvas size rectangle with 50% opacity as container and have all vector brush strokes nested as child’s.
then the base shapes will be 50% visible, and all vector brush strokes fully opaque.
It is different to red overlay, but serves the purpose to show where the vectors are used as masks and let the background shine through.
-
MmmMaarten reacted to thomaso in [designer] How to paint on vector mask while seeing the image?
Apart from 'smart' nesting various vector objects for mask creation: Below a workaround without nesting but a change of blend mode (multiply > erase) + layer opacity to toggle the vector object between coloured painting and b&w mask:
P.S.: Blend mode erase will force rasterization on export, regardless of the export settings and file type.

MmmMaarten reacted to StuartRc in March of the Robots and Comic Book Template
March of the Robots 2024
Moved this project out of the Comic Book Template as it has evolved into a much bigger project
Used prompts from 2024 to work on the Zine part of the template but there are now 31 sketches!
01 First Complete Inking
Mix of Vector and Raster (Mostly Vector!)
420 x 540mm 300dpi Affinity Designer
Process
1. Complete all the sketch ideas first!...work up to final vector artwork
2. Included some samples of development
3. Used the Border assets from 210mm Zine Toolkit project
4. As usual create lots of vector assets and goodies!
5. Made use of the nice new tools to speed things up
6. Used a mixture of Affinity Designer and Puplisher for this project as it feeds from templates!
7. Used new set of inking Brushes (Basic Inkers | Scribble II | Challenge Inkers) mixed with older ones like PB 33 Comic Ink Blocking | PB 35 Zombie | Monster Club II
8. Vector Conversion using same settings for each raster object.
9. Used vector Flood Fill to speed things up but had to resort to Pen Base Infilling for some elements as Vector Flood Fill is to edge (Borders are filled objects not lines lines)
10. Avoided Contour Tool as could end up with excessive nodes

MmmMaarten got a reaction from Sam LaGargouille in Textures etc. for Car Models: Unique Classy Car and Cabriolet for Animation Short Film 🚗
Toot toot! 🚗 Still in the car modeling phase for my Animation Short Film. This second unique model is a more classy streamlined car.😊
Everything 2D (Textures everywhere and of course the Onscreen Titles) happily done in Affinity Designer, as the faithful reliable friend Designer is!
(Design, 3D Modeling, surfacing/texturing, rigging, animation, lighting, VFX, camera in Blender. And Sound Design/Foley).

We had a Riley 3-seater sports many years ago that was a muted shade close to that yellow. Most fun of all the vehicles in a lengthy career.
