ianrb got a reaction from Dan C in Saving as processing
Thanks Dan in helping me to get my head around all these new ways of doing the same old thing
Now about cropping -- new thread will likely appear soon

ianrb got a reaction from StuartRc in three of the one
I do a lot of these collages and as I learn where this and that is in Affinity; and how that and this works I am being to like it more as I get another non-adobe program out of my head
Everything here was done in Affinity --- 2nd file is the Oly raw file with my Lr5 starting point preset added . The log would only be a about 150mm/6 inches thick and couple of mts long
questions, comments and suggestions welcome

ianrb reacted to unni in Exposure blending using luminosity mask manually
@ianrb
I have quickly tried blend ranges which is a powerful feature. It is different from LM though in many situations, it can serve similar purpose. LM aids in slowly building up masks and one can target specific areas precisely. The mask can be made visible. By proper brushing with low flow values and using overlay modes, jagged edges can be smoothened. Different selections can be 'painted-in' into existing masks. The final picture will look natural as a single entity without detectable problems in transition areas. In AP, masks have to be converted to pixel layer for brush overlay to work. With a slightly different workflow when compared to PS, we can work using luminosity masks in AP which is a very notable plus point.

ianrb got a reaction from Aammppaa in Same big truck
same day and time although from the otherside towards the sun behind the fog
All done in Affinity for another get to know it exercise -- wishing I didn't straighten/level the truck now
The yellow lines made a interesting test for various removal tools for several programs -- the first one I did with affinity work perfectly with the inpaint brush; however next time (this one) was not so good and the clone tool was required also . Third file shows the cleaned area . In the end I don't need to do as much but editing for me usually fiddle around until I'm impressed . The latest idea is to "add" another trailer to make it a proper road train
second pic is the Oly raw file
"dust" added with a texture brush
Honest comments, suggestions, and questions welcome . You are also welcome to download and edit ; but it's still MY photo :).

ianrb got a reaction from Alfred in getting my head around Affinity
Thanks for being so nice . I see it as a good enough photo -- what I call a "recording photo" for the family album even though I have spent a fair amount of time with various edits . I threw those edits out and started from scratch with Affinity -- once I remember where tools are hiding I found it the best for this image
Don't know --- maybe crashing through fire lol!!

ianrb got a reaction from VectorWhiz in getting my head around Affinity
My son drivers this one -- the mug is following in his old man's footsteps.
It was a foggy morning when he passed though a little while ago so we caught up out on the highway.
All done in Affinity -- the 1st black and white completed. Good affinity training exercise and practice
Affinity crashed while doing this one . Does that happen often?
I use Lr5 for organizing and find it better [not easier] to export instead of only saving as I complete an important part . What/how do you do the saving part?
2nd image is the Oly Em1 raw file
Questions and any suggestions welcome -- I feel I want to do more (???)

ianrb got a reaction from Wosven in Affinity learning exercise
Had Affinity (trail) for only a few days after getting disillusioned with another program although my old Lr5 is my first go to program for basic edits
Although I have a better than average -- whatever average is (??) -- understanding of digital editing; it's always a head full to use a new beast that does mostly the same thing as others but in different ways and with different tool names . Still a lot to take in, find, and work out.
This is one the first mostly Affinity edited images I have done . I always find it hard to explain what was done and how it was done apart from saying I use very few preset/actions in my editing . I also believe we should post a before and after edit file and that does give idea to what was done . 2nd is the Oly Em1 raw file
How and why questions welcome

If anyone finds anything remotely suggestive about that innocuous image, please be aware that it’s all in your mind!
