I'd prefer to be able to see the axis values without having to open a popup because I can't tell that the attributes have changed when arrowing around. The only way to know that the attributes have changed when moving the cursor is to keep the Text Styles panel visible and keep an eye on the tiny, unformatted text in the Current Formatting field. With Adobe I can see the axis values change as I cursor around.

    I've animated a drawing I made on paper 27 (!!) years ago in 1997.
Did all the cutting, slicing and editing in Affinity Photo. Long live the Affinity Photo Clone Stamp, non-destructive vector masking and the great exporter which directly exports to Spine, which is just wonderful! 😀
I've used Esoteric Spine Pro to Animate it.
    Hope you like it!

Simple honest query - Fair enough, I get it.

Anyway. Mark this post as "SOLVED", those Executable Packages worked out nicely despite not being able to use MSIX packages!
    Thank you! 😃👍

Alfred reacted to Patrick Connor in Variable Font Support Discussion (split)
    Hi @Affinityconfusesme, @Alfred, @Bobby Henderson, @Bryan Rieger, @kenmcd, @MikeTO, @ronnyb
As you can see I have split these posts about the forthcoming Variable Fonts support made in this thread off into the Beta Members area. The original post by Ash will be repurposed to discuss the implementation of Variable Font support, and the talk here about other implementations (and OT discussion on Colour Fonts) would have got in the way of discussing the actual implementation and any bugs found.
The new build 2.5.0.2415 including this feature will be made available soon, and can discussed here

Alfred reacted to lacerto in 6 levels of grey scale
My experience is that there will always be intermediate tones besides those specified in the Gradient Map adjustment. The stray tones can especially be seen when using color images. In context of black and white images this does not normally show, so if exact number of levels is not important (and it often is not, as images are normally not viewed at pixel level), the shown methods would be fine (though setting up a kind of accurate stepwise gradient is rather tedious). In low-resolution images, sporadic intermediate tones, even grayscale, are of course more easily discernible.

Off topic but if for whatever reason you want not to add spaces between paragraphs in replies in these forums, you can use Shift + Return instead of Return.
i mostly use it only when I want to quote a post to insert a {...} marker indicating I have omitted part of the quote, like below:

Alfred reacted to CM0 in Questions on Canva acquiring Affinity
None of these are even remotely in the class of Affinity. I do use Krita and Inkscape for some niche features when needed, but overall the workflow can't compete to the productivity of the integrated suite that Affinity offers. There is the Corel Draw suite, but that is about $500 for a perpetual license.
The only open source software that is positioning itself in the professional media tools suite is Graphite. https://graphite.rs/ However, it is still alpha and will be likely years before it is ready for professional use.

Just look at this - introduced in April 2010 in Serif DrawPlus X4 - Serif never implemented this interface in Affinity.

Please do not use the "leading override" to increase the distance. Text Styles, in particular Paragraph Styles will be your friends. Choose your Font, choose the size, set the leading to be between 10 -20% of the size*. I use exact for the leading, not % or "default" or At Least or Multiple. It is just how I work, I am old school and a bit of a control freak. Use what you want.
Do not use Overrides to fix things, redefine the paragraph style. Overrides should be used rarely if at all**.
This really depends on the amount of text, a few paragraphs totalling a couple of hundred words, sure use Publisher. A dozen pages with a few thousand words, use a Text Editor or Word Processor.

When one of the Shape Tools is active, a ‘Keep selected’ checkbox is displayed on the Context toolbar. Make sure there’s a tick in that box.

There is a setting in the Context toolbar, should be the last one on the right. It is called Keep Selected.

Too many occurrences of the word “that”!  And rather lacking in punctuation, too, which results in the reader having to do a lot of work to unravel the meaning.

Of course it can! ‘Community led’ simply means that decisions are informed by views that members of the community have expressed. There is no obligation on company officials to inform community members about the nature of any decisions or the process by which those decisions were reached.

It can be done in exactly the same way it is now, via the feedback & suggestions forums, & the beta program.
But the point is Serif has already been acquired by Canva so we are already in this "new age" you keep talking about, & the policy has not changed. Please just accept it & move on.

Alfred got a reaction from William Overington in If Serif moves to Subscription based biz model, can they cripple use of existing apps with an update?
Not necessarily. The way Adobe seems to do things is that you can reactivate your subscription as and when the need arises, so that instead of paying for a whole year you can pay for just a month or two. The cost per month will be higher, of course, but the overall cost will be significantly lower than it would be for a largely unused annual subscription.

Alfred reacted to Fernando Ribeiro in Suggestion - implement crop to bounds / crop to opaque on the crop tool
When creating a panorama, the Crop tool offers the options Crop to bounds and Crop to opaque.
Crop to bounds is similar to unclip canvas, where any pixel that is not 100% transparent is visible. Crop to opaque crops the image so that no transparent pixel is visible.
My suggestion is to implement this functionality in the normal crop tool.
Scenario: I have an image that needs to be rotated to make the content straight. I then need to crop the image to remove the transparent areas that appear at the edges. The crop to opaque functionality would do this in one click, instead of having to go to each edge and move the corner.

A beta version is a version in which new functions, even in a core version, are to be tested by a wide range of users. With an alpha, only a few test it. A beta is like a good wine, it matures over time. You were not perfect when you were born, but over the years you have developed into the person you are today.
