Frankentoon Studio got a reaction from AlbertAdoms in Tutorials list for 2017 (I’m also taking suggestions)
    Hello everybody!

As some of you may have noticed I haven’t uploaded any tutorials recently to www.frankentoon.com and all I can say in my defense is that this quarter has been crazy… the Frankentoon project has opened great opportunities for freelance work and I’ve been working over dreadful deadlines the last couple of months.

The original goal of the website was not getting freelance work for me, but to offer simple, funny and easy-to-follow character design tutorials for Affinity users. And I really want to make more of those!

In order to keep moving towards that goal, I’ve been re-structuring the way I’m managing the site. I’ll be offering some digital products in my store, so hopefully, I won’t have to rely that much on freelance work and this way I’ll have more time for writing free tutorials… which takes me to our main subject…

Tutorials. This is a PARTIAL list of tutorials for 2017:

Giving life to your pencil drawings with Designer Creating a video game Hero Creating a video game Villain/Boss Saving time with Adjustment Layers Comic-Style Inking with Designer Background Design: A Magical Forest  Background Design: The Castle of Darkness Character Design: Pinup Girls Sketching with Affinity Designer and Pixel Persona Character Design: A Creature from Outer Space
All of them sound interesting for me, but what really matter is what do YOU think. Do you find these topics interesting enough? Whats missing? What would you add to that list? What do you want to learn? What makes you struggle the most about learning Affinity Designer ?

I’m still fine-tuning the plan for the first quarter of 2017, so I’ll be taking suggestions until Dec 15th. Thank you all in advance!

    Cheers!

Actually having procedural textures based on vector shapes would be a REALLY nice feature indeed. Paper grain could be achieved with combined random seed algorithms. Either that, or having the ability to trace, or define a portion of a vector group as tile-able symbol would definitely cut the cake for me !

Frankentoon Studio got a reaction from osker in (Question) Wanna watch some speed-process videos?
    Hello there!

Hope you all doing great! Some of you might have seen my website Frankentoon. I have written some simple character design tutorials for Designer. So far, I've had lots of fun doing them. But, tutorials are very time-consuming to produce, hence I can't update the 'Toon Lab' section as often as I wish...

So I started to brainstorm on some ways to have updates more often.  And I was thinking in speed-process videos. I would divide them in 3-4 simple steps, so you can see 2-3 hours footage of my work compressed in 3-5 minutes of video. This looks very practical for me, since you'll be able to watch 'em on my website, Facebook or our Youtube channel, from any device.

Another idea that came up to my mind was to have small artwork 'breakdowns', more like 'makin' of' posts, explaining in a couple of pictures my process for 'x' illustration.

This way I can work on my regular tutorials with less stress, knowing that you have cool content more often.

What do you think? would you be interested in this kind of content alongside the regular written tutorials? Any opinion will help me a lot here.

    Thanks in advance people!

I love to watch videos to learn more about Affinity.
Speedpaint is fascinating, but is hard to learn from. I like videos that I can follow along with my own work.

These are great ideas, Enrique! :)

(Maybe you could also pick some little points that proved difficult to achieve in making one of your illustrations and describe how you found a solution. Sometimes it is just the little tricks that will help people get on with their own designs. Or you could make a series of shorter and more conceptual tutorials, for instance, how to achieve that certain sort of liveliness, of conciseness and tautness in lines and shapes that brings a character to life. I cannot explain that very well, obviously …)

I'll agree with that...maybe a quick 2 minute tutorial on a key feature that defines your style.

So, here we go again. This was originally created over a year, thanks to Supervolting on here for bringing it back to my attention.
I have reworked the tutorial and it's less than 5 now and simplified. It's a really cool way to show of your videos or pictures and a great way to see how you can work with other apps in your workflow by starting in Affinity...

    Enjoy... (and click subscribe) ;)

    Hi All,

I've had this idea for a while and finally i've got a few ideas up and its going in the right direction. Think clumsy Monkey who does silly things or just doesn't think... and the catchphrase with Jiraffe.

May give it a new direction and turn it into in to a kids book at some point, or do i keep it adult based with interest for kids??? Probably would go down the route of Peppa Pig, Hey Duggee if it was aimed at kids. SO need to think about that but maybe keep it as is and look to get these published in a mag or online somewhere?? I still remember my comics as a kid and reading things like Hagar the horrible in the newspaper..

Anyway, thoughts & suggestions welcomed... Here are a few from the Ohhh, My Strawberry Monkey series
