If I still can have two wishes regarding foot/side/end-notes, let me express them:
Right now I'm working on a document which has following numbering of footnotes: ... 15, 16, 17, 17bis, 18, 19... (that's because in 2nd edition a new footnote was added and it must not break old references), so I wish Publisher supports that in some way.
Also, I wish there were an option to define margins of a footnote and to make them dependent on previous character (i.e. make smaller left margin if the footnote occurs after a punctuation mark):

I know, those are very specific cases and I am aware they're very unlikely to be supported right away. But maybe some day...?

    Purpose: Updates and Fixes
    Requirements: Purchased Affinity Publisher

    Download: Download
    Auto-update: Available
    Hi,
We are pleased to announce that Affinity Publisher Customer Beta 1.9.0.850 is now available as a download from the link above.
If this is your first time using a customer beta of an Affinity app, it’s worth noting that the beta will install as a separate app - alongside your store version. They will not interfere with each other at all and you can continue to use the store version for critical work without worry.
This beta is significant update from the 1.8 version available for purchase - we strongly recommend that you do not use this beta for real work as data could be lost and the files you save are not guaranteed to open in previous or future versions of Affinity Publisher.

SirPL reacted to Jerry Jenkins in Setting page box defaults for placing files
    Hi,
I import small AI or PDF files in groups of 10 or more to place on pages as linked files. They come in with the page box set to "trim box" which gives me a small object on a large page. I then set them to "maximum content" one at a time, which is inefficient. Is there a way to either set the default page box for import to "maximum content" or to change the page box setting for a group of files all at once?
    Thanks,
    J.

The jump to version 2 should include more significant changes rather than just addressing bugs and tweaking the code. I'm not expecting anything till then, but I'll be damned disappointed if it isn't included by v2.0.

<EDITED> Please note, Affinity Publisher 1.8.2 for Windows is now live so this thread is locked </EDITED>
We are pleased to announce a major update for the Windows release of Affinity Publisher, version 1.8.0
    Changes in this build
The changes in Affinity Publisher for Windows 1.8.0 (over the last release Affinity Publisher for Windows 1.7.3) are as follows:
    New Features:
Template support – save documents as template files to re-use time and time again, share templates across all apps and even access files on multiple devices through cloud storage. New document dialog – it’s now simpler than ever to find, create and manage document presets with customised, saveable presets and thumbnail previews. Updated PANTONE© library – work with a seemingly endless range of colours, including updated PANTONE© Color Bridge and PANTONE© Formula Guide solid palettes (coated and uncoated). IDML import – import InDesign® IDML files, including all text styles, master pages, guides, pinned objects and more, directly into Affinity Publisher. Live preflight checking – customise the app’s all new Preflight panel to receive live warnings for possible errors in your document, including poor image resolution, bleed hazards, overflowing text, spelling errors, missing images or font resources, and more. XLSX import – import spreadsheet data from Excel, Apple Numbers or LibreOffice in XLSX format as a standalone table or inline with your text frames. Document merge – merge multiple documents together into a single file and take advantage of text style mapping, index merging and master page control, whether you’re combining whole documents or selecting page ranges to import. Smart master pages – effortlessly swap master pages and migrate edited content from any page to a new master page layout in a single click without losing any of your work in the process. Collect resources – organise all image resources into a single folder location and share with others in your network. New Anchors panel – easily manage anchors in your document and create new ones from selected text. Text column dividing lines – add lines to separate columns in text frame settings. Many other improvements. Fixes

UPDATING TO THIS VERSION (Free for existing customers)
The software version can be seen on the splash screen and the About dialog (in Help > About Affinity Publisher).
If you’ve purchased from the Affinity Store— each time you start the Affinity Store software it will check for updates and offer any available update. The latest update will install over the top of any earlier version, with no need to uninstall. You can download the latest installer by logging into the affinity store here and find the order in your account and use the "Download" button in there. Alternatively, this new release (and previous versions of Affinity Publisher for Windows) can be downloaded from this link (that installer is NOT for Windows Store purchases and needs a product key).
If you’ve purchased from the Microsoft Store— Microsoft Store updates are done automatically by the operating system (each time you start the application). If this does not happen for you, open the Windows Store app and click the three dots in the top right corner of the app and then go to Downloads and Updates. Click Get Updates. This should hopefully force the update to show.

SirPL reacted to Patrick Connor in Affinity Publisher is Apple’s Mac App of the Year
Our desktop layout app has been named in the "Best of 2019" list by Apple

Ashley Hewson, the Managing Director of Serif, was at a prestigious Apple event in New York for the presentation of the award—the third time an Affinity app has been selected as the winner.
He said: “Affinity Publisher was by far our biggest project so far, introducing a world-first level of integration between creative apps, and the response to that has been unbelievable. And we’re honoured to be named App of the Year again for Affinity Publisher, following on from Affinity Photo for iPad and Mac.
We know our customers really love the Affinity apps and awards like this serve as further confirmation that we’re going in the right direction and making products that professionals around the world, who use them every day, genuinely appreciate.”

Fully agree - I apparently did not get the point of your previous post. My apologizes.

To compare the terminology used elsewhere:
Application Position superscript Position subscript OpenType superscript OpenType subscript InDesign Superscript Subscript Superscript/Superior Subscript/Inferior QuarkXPress Superscript Subscript OpenType > Position > Superscript OpenType > Position > Subscript Scribus Superscript Subscript Superscript (sups) Subscript (subs) So maybe the typography features can be renamed to Superior variants and Inferior variants?

SirPL reacted to GarryP in Publisher: Superscript
While Positioning and Typography are two different things, if, for example, the user finds a “Superscript” button – by mousing around and reading the tool-tips – they could easily think that was the button to use for superscript without wondering whether there was another Superscript control which was the one they might actually be needing.
To put that another way, if you don’t know that there is more than one type of superscript you probably won’t go looking for another one once you have found one. A user may not care (or even notice) which section of a panel a control is in, they probably care more about what it is called and what it does. In this case, the user finds a button called "Superscript" which they press and it doesn’t do anything. It looks like a bug because the name of the button is misleading to everyone who doesn’t know there is more than one type of superscript.
The Super/Subscript in Typography seem to be for something called “figure positions” elsewhere. If this is correct, if the Typography buttons were called something like “Use Superscript Figure Positions” and “Use Subscript Figure Positions” that would make it clearer as only the people who knew what those things were would use them (mostly).
If beginners don’t know what something is they are more likely to stay away from it, but if they find a control which is called something that they know - even if it’s not quite for what they know and the icon doesn’t exactly look like what they want - they are more likely to use it mistakenly.
The Help needs to be quite a bit more helpful when it comes to typography. The Typography panel itself isn’t available via the contents or search and isn’t documented at all, as far as I can tell. There’s mention of it in “Open Type font features” but it’s simply mentioned in passing; there are no explanations of what the things in it are or what they should be used for. The Help doesn’t have to be a comprehensive typographer’s manual but there should at least be something for the user to read which can then be researched further on the web if necessary.

    New Features
    Pinned Objects for Text
It is now possible to 'pin' objects to a specific location in the text flow. As text is edited and reflows, the object travels with its pin.
To access this feature you can use the 'Float with Text' or 'Inline with Text' buttons on the main toolbar. Further control of the object's placement is available via the 'Pinning Panel' (View > Studio > Pinning)
    DocX Import
DocX is now offered as an option for import wherever txt and rtf were previously available (for example File > Place). It is chiefly designed with import of text content in mind.
Due to the wide variety of docx documents out there we will inevitably encounter issues and indeed there are features we won't initially support, for example:
    - DrawingML
    - Fields
    - Footnotes and Endnotes
    - Multi-page tables
If you have docx documents that are failing to import we would encourage you to share them with us if possible.

    Updates and Fixes
    Master Pages
Due to the changes in Master Page functionality in this build we strongly suggest you backup any documents that are valuable to you before testing.
It is now possible to edit the content of Master Page Text Frames and Picture Frames directly from a spread the master is applied to. By default, on editing, the content attribute for the item in question is automatically unlinked, but the other attributes and geometry remain locked. It is also possible to entirely lock the Master Page instance if desired, to prevent unintended content edits. Finally options are available to edit all attributes of Master Page items linked - the Master Page and any other pages it is applied to will be updated - or to edit all attributes unlinked - only the copy on the current spread will be updated. In both of these cases an information bar is displayed while the editing ‘mode’ is active.
Text flow between frames on masters is honoured when the master is applied and it is possible to create text flow between frames that have come from masters. When auto-flowing text from a frame that comes from a master the text auto-flow will use the matching frame on subsequent pages that have the same master applied or insert new pages with the same master.
Note that the previous default behaviour was to edit all attributes for all master items linked, but also to lock the Master Page instance in the layers panel. If dealing with an old document and the new functionality is desired the instance will need to be unlocked or the Master reapplied.
Link to master page tutorial / video here
Amalgamated Text > Insert Text from File and File > Place
Text > Insert Text from File has been removed and File > Place should be used instead. The types of files available via File > Place depends on context, for example if a Text Frame is selected then text files will be made available.
    Performance
(Win) Fix for system mis-reporting RAM on some systems leading to poor performance.
    - If 'RAM Usage Limit' in Preferences > Performance is set to 1024MB you may be experiencing this issue. If so please set the limit manually to a higher value (typically the amount of Physical RAM installed) or Ctrl-Run Up to reset settings.
    Menus and Studio
(Mac) Fixed the spurious black tiles issue when switching between multiple documents
