jackamus got a reaction from Alfred in Print dialogue
Gotcha! My preset is set to 100%.
Thanks for the nudge Alfred.

jackamus got a reaction from Alfred in New AD version?
Oops sorry! There I go shooting from the hip again!
Because the update was automatic I didn't see the release notes until I opened your link.
The cube grid could be useful but until I try it I won't know.

jackamus got a reaction from svoop in Guides
It would seem that starting this 'Guides' thread that I may have opened a can of worms for the developers!
There have been many suggestions about improving the versatility/usability of the current guide feature. I have basically copied and pasted all the suggestions into this one combined suggestion.
From jackamus
It would be useful to be able to set some locked guides (a different colour perhaps) whilst being able to use movable guides as well. Attached is a file for having 4 different types of guide lines Guid lines.afdesign
The colour of the guides would be a default colour as well as a a user choice.
One of the suggestions I made some time ago was to be able to see an objects handles/nodes when moving a guide. I'm still waiting for that one.
From Aammppaa
The colour coding might be nice.
A Guide layer.
Allow the user to export / print with guides visible.
Form CLCI
I also got a suggestion for guides. When you use Guide Manager and click the guide's coordinates, be it horizontal or vertical one, the guide itself should get highligted (maybe change color) so you know what guide you're working with.
Also, multiple guide selection in Guides Manager pane would be huge improvement.
From Nicky G
I also find the use of this panel for guides to be nice, but uncomfortable.
1. As you say you should highlight the guide in focus with different color
2. selection and movement of several guides (as if they were grouped)
3. Creating Guides rotated at user-defined angles
4. creation of vector shapes (any form) in guide, as happens in Ai.
5. possibility to open the guide panel by double clicking on the guide itself. (it would avoid the GUIDE DISPLAY / MANAGEMENT step)
6. Possibility of selecting and direct highlighting of the guide on the drawing table and moving the guide ALSO through the XY axes inside the panel visible on the screen Transform.
It would speed up the numerical displacement of a guide (as happens in Ai). I
In my opinion it would also be useful, by pressing at the same time as dragging the guides, for example CTRL, to activate a SNAP of the guide on the numerical notches of the ruler,
1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - 6 - 7- 8 mm.
And depending on the Zoom, it is possible to hook the guides to intermediate sizes 0.5mm - 1mm - 1.5mm - 2mm - 2.5mm ....
Higher zoom even with 1/10 mm notches etc ...
1.1mm - 1.2 - 1.3 ....
Dragging without the CTRL key the operation remains the same as now.
From catlover My only remaining beefs about the guides are these two:
1. they should extend all the way to the rulers
2. the user should be able to choose the color
Other than that, the devs did a cracking job with the guides.

jackamus got a reaction from carl123 in Transparency tool
Actually that is what I did but for a different reason. I wanted the transparency effect to be very narrow. So I moved the node, for changing the width of the effect, as far as it would go which was still too wide. I then created an ellipse, with no fill, gave it a suitable stroke thickness and with the same colour as the background. I then applied a Gaussian blur and aligned it over the top of the photos ellipse.

jackamus got a reaction from R C-R in Drawing to scale
No I don't want to return to anything. I am suggesting that DP is modified to look something like PC version of AD. This because DP has some features that AD doesn't have but could be arranged/modified to look more like AD.
Its about like making a Ford Escort look like a Ferrari but not perform like one.

I'm 78 - maybe I can't wait that long!

jackamus reacted to MikeW in Drawing to scale
Sure. It makes sense.
Let's say you design something at 1:1 that is 17.8 feet long (it's a car wrap design). AD handles this at !:1 pretty well. But now I need to send it off to the vinyl print/cut company. What format do I send it to them in?

jackamus got a reaction from Alfred in Comparing AD with DrawPlus
Sorry I didn't realize that this was something I could do in AD. Thanks.

When you are doing a technical illustration you may want to alter the proportion of an ellipse to fit the perspective. It is easier, as you progress the illustration, to simply increase or decrease the ellipse proportion in degrees, rather than a difficult to visualize minor axis change. This makes it easier to control the illusion of perspective particularly in an exploded view.
Since an ellipse is a circle viewed at an angle it would seem sensible to show that angle as figure in degrees in the Transformation panel.

Already got Patallels installed so I can use DP8.

Good advice - it did the trick and now I can use pressure to vary thickness.

jackamus got a reaction from Alfred in Custom brushes
Hi Alfred,
Success! I have attached a file showing how I used the transparency effect in a custom brush.
There have been times when I wanted to 'Feather' the edge of an irregular shape. Using the transparency tool only give you 4 choices of Type and I needed away to create an irregular Type.

jackamus got a reaction from Sean P in AD getting tired?
OK I'll have a go when it happens again although I have never used QuickTime like this before.

jackamus reacted to bpedit in Affinity Designer - Reset Selection Box
This make no sense to me, at least for my use. "Correctly" must be in the eye of the beholder. The reset boundry box still fits "exactly around the shape" unless you're speaking to the simple case of rotating a rectangle versus a vector drawing. Even then the fit is exact although not orthagonal.

jackamus got a reaction from Alfred in AD v DP8
A few weeks ago I was bemoaning the fact that DrawPlus8 had a few features and tools that AD has not yet implemented. Someone suggested that I download 'Parallels' which would allow me to run DP8 from Windows on my Mac. This I did however it left an incompatibility between AD files and DP8 files.
I was able to get round this by saving as a pdf in AD and then importing into DP8 to use its non-AD features. This is working quite well.

I am aware that there are at least two differences but for me DP is better then AD.
I have been able to set up the Windows OS using a program called 'Parallel' on a 14 day free trial.
