Adrianna reacted to MJaP in Canva
Don't delude yourself, the majority of your user base are here because Adobe embraced the morally bankrupt Software as a Service model and they looked for a perpetual license alternative, and for no other reason. You touted perpetual licenses front and centre, and as someone who works for a multi-national software and services company I know that if you betray your customer base's trust they do not forgive and they do not forget lightly.
I dropped Adobe like a stone the moment they went Software as a Service, the model of "rent your software, pay for eternity, spend thousands, and the moment you stop paying you have NOTHING". I will never RENT my software, software ISN'T a service, it's an end product.
I dropped Abode and never looked back, I dropped Cinema 4D like a stone when they went to a subscription model (after saying they would offer both perpetual and subscription models together... which lasted all of 2 years) and never looked back.
Rest assured I, and quite likely a very large percentage of your user base, will drop you like a stone and move on should Affinity go to a subscription model, because your perpetual licensing is the only thing that attracted us to your software over Abode.
The fact that you sold yourselves (didn't even go into partnership) after only two months of starting a conversation rings alarm bells, you are now a subsidiary, you are no longer the master of your own destiny, you are a servant, only able to doff your cap and say "yes sir" at Canva's command.
Excuse the cynicism, but we have lived this software story FAR too many times before, and it has never ended well. I hope this will be the exception to the rule. Actions speak louder than words. We shall wait to see what SaaS company Canva's actions turn out to be.
Perhaps a written declaration, a "verbal contract" if you will, between yourselves and your customers that your software will NEVER drop its perpetual license model, and that its pricing will never be inflated to such unreasonable levels to try and force people on to a future parallel subscription service?

Adrianna reacted to Nikky7311 in Tile Function
A spacing function that allows us to create a seamless repeating tile would made surface pattern designers dreams come true. Our whole job is to create layered repeating art. These repeats need to look seamless so spacing elements that transfer from one side of the tile/canvas to the other side is key. We then export as PSD or un-compressed TIFF files so our buyers can update the layers later. We usually transfer them with Drop Box. So far Affinity does 90% of what we need.
This new function would do the following: when a layer is pushed off one side of the canvas/art board, it appears on the opposite side. This will enable to the user to create a seamless repeating design.
I will certainly be blogging about this app and sharing it on social media. If this tile function happens I will be doing 100% of my work on it.

Sometimes, when it is grey and windy outside, all you want to do is curl up with a good book.

Adrianna reacted to aholub in Eyedropper (color picker) always black and white.
I click on the "Stroke" window to bring up the color options. When I pick a color on the wheel, the stroke color changes as expected. However, when I drag the color picker around, the image in the picker changes to reflect what's underneath, but the actual color values (both displayed under the circle and in the stroke) are always only black or white. That is, the Color picker isn't actually picking the color that it shows---it always coverts to either black or white.
On the attached screen shot, notice that the color picker shows blue, but the displayed RGB value is (0,0,0).
This only happens on parts of the screen. Things seem to work better when the picker tool is physically closer to the eyedropper icon.
This behavior looks like a bug. If it isn't, what am I doing wrong? If it is, is there a workaround, and can I do anything to help you track down the problem?
Thanks.

Adrianna reacted to Chris Van Cleve in Dream Gradients
Now that I have redone all of my styles to use editable gradients, I decided why not provide just the gradients used as a palette? So here you go. Hope you enjoy it.

Adrianna reacted to Deadbyxmas in Affinity illustrations and experiments
Hi all,
my name is Robert (aka Deadbyxmas!), I'm an illustrator, animator etc and by accident I bumped into Affinity Designer a couple of weeks ago (I was probably googling around for alternatives to Ai....don't we all), tried the demo (in between paid jobs...hmm) and then, once I had a better idea of its workflow, bought it and got cracking with a few sketches and ideas.
As usual I tend to explore new software by trial and accident, without tutorials and stuff, so probably I'm still overlooking a lot of its features - I noticed that every time I use it I find a better way around things etc. - but I thought I'd share with you some of my first experiments.
Actually I'm not sure what I can share or not here - there is a pic that is proving quite popular on another social site, but is slightly (veeeeeery slightly, I wouldn't even consider it so) risquè, so you tell me - I can direct you to the external link.
In the meantime here's my first (nearly) full illustratration done entirely in AD, included the texture masking.
best!
