    Hello all,

Just thought I'd post up this little preview video of one of the features which will become available in Affinity Photo Beta sometime early next year - 32bit HDR editing mode!

Hey everyone! This is my first post here.

In less than a year, Affinity has changed my workflow in ways I couldn't even imagine some time ago. Here it is, my first project developed entirely using Designer.

If you like it, feel free to check it out at Behance and show me some love :-)  https://www.behance.net/gallery/31974255/Panic

    Thanks!

It is called a symmetry mode. Krita does this, and it is perfect for painting Mandala-like patterns. Another solution would be the option to clone layers as instanced layers which update in real-time. Then any type of geometrical pattern becomes possible, even irregular ones (Photoline and Krita support these).

Really, both Affinity Photo and Designer would benefit greatly from a virtual clone layer type. It opens up symmetrical patterns, mandalas, mirror painting, and much more.

To echo another post or two, I hate to be a broken record, but I do have to request a simplification of the color picker as well—that's probably the number one request that I've gotten from our development team on probably a dozen occasions, wondering when it will be changed. Currently it does just require too many steps.

Trying to figure how these dartboards work, I run into a couple of frustrating pitfalls.

    1. Hitting ⌘A will select the all the artboards and not the objects inside the artboard.
    2. Drag select doesn't select the objects.
    3. Running the arrange functions, will result in some weird results. As it is now, it doesn't use the artboard the objects appears on, it will arrange the objects based on all your artboards. Some times it result in invisible    objects. So it seems that you can arrange/align your artboards, but not your artwork properly. Maybe I'm missing someting here.. Anyone?..
    4. The clipping of objects that extends the artboards, is there a way to make your object appear on both artboards, as they covers both edges, without having to copy and paste into new artboard, then realign?

Purpose: Features / Improvements / Fixes
    Status: Beta
    Requirements: Purchased Affinity Designer
    Mac App Store: Not Submitted
    Download: Here

To use this beta, simply download the file from the link given above and double-click on the file to open the installer. Follow the instructions to install the beta version. The beta sits alongside the Mac App Store version and will not interfere with it.

    Notable changes:
    - Artboards. These are still work-in-progress and you can expect a few niggles, but at least you can see the direction we're heading. At present we still need to add auto-slice creation to Export Persona for artboards and we also show an occasional flicker when adding artboards: these will be fixed before the next update. We also need to move guide, grid and rulers to work per-artboard, so these are currently not as they will be in the final release and will be fixed asap.
    - Global colours.
    - Full support for P3 panels found in the new 5k iMac and 4k iMac. If you have one of these you can try making a new RGB8 document with ProPhoto profile and choosing RGB(255,0,0) or RGB(0,255,0) as the colour of your objects - they should look richer and more vivid than you are used to seeing.
    - View points added to the Navigator. The Navigator has an advanced mode that lets you choose to create and swap between specific view zoom/position saved points.
    - Font fixes. Specifically, a number of font-related crashes have been addressed
    - Export/Import improvements - particularly PDF.
    - Fix for Text tool failing to accept certain characters (those that were mapped to other shortcuts!)
    - Snapping improved for Rotation Centre. Rotation Centre is available from the Move Tool's context toolbar.
    - Pantone/named colour/tint improvements. Selecting an object which has a Pantone colour will automatically choose the tint options in the colour panel.
    - Canvas rotation. The canvas can be rotated by using the touchpad's rotate gesture or by using the View menu items 'Rotate Left', 'Rotate Right' or 'Reset Rotation'.
    - Fix for colour conversion issues exhibited with HSL colours in RGB document formats.
    - Character & Paragraph panel improvements.
    - Typography panel show visually the effects of different OpenType features. Select some text and go to the Typography panel - this will show you the available options for your current font and text selection. Try changing fonts for more options.
    - Printer’s marks and bleed available for output. The export options for PDF now include these additional options, as does the Print dialog.
    - Smart Tap feature. Toggle between the current zoom and 100% by double-tapping with two fingers on the trackpad. This is useful for designing up close and being able to easily refer to a 100% view and then back again.
    - Updated splash screens. These are necessary as we need to include Pantone licensing information.
    - Added Split-toning adjustment. This is available from the Layers panel's adjustments menu and the main Layers->Adjustments menu.
    - Snapshots panel. This panel (disabled by default) allows you to take a snapshot of the document in the current state and refer back to it at later points.
    - Added shortcuts for the different Personas. These can be customised by the user as desired.

    Notable changes:

    - Added support for Pantone colours - including PDF/X import and export.
    - New blend mode - “Contrast Invert”. Try typing some black text over a gradient black->white area and choose this blend mode.
    - Fix for incorrectly exporting the opposite of what the user requested with the ‘1x’/‘2x’/‘3x’ options in Export Persona. - Fix for documents with Pixel unit types incorrectly loading into the Mac App Store version (just open your document and save it again in this version to fix). - Keyboard shortcuts should now work properly for view zooming and are now properly saved for tools.
    - Certain adjustments (Levels, Curves, Channel Mixer) can now be applied in any colour space - so you could add a LAB curves adjustment to an RGB document, for example.
    - The Move Tool can now be told to move an object, but not children of that object: It’s an option on the context toolbar and will only show up if you have a non-group object selected which has children (a curve which clips a number of other curves, for example).
    - Numerous PSD export / import improvements - Some fixes that should help create PSD files that FCPX and Motion can import.  Fixed import vector masking issue with subtractive masks.  PSD export can now export efficient flat image which decreases files sizes for flat RGB images)..
    - You can now double click the empty view (with no documents loaded) to load a document.
    - Numerous improvements to vector import / export - especially for PDF/X.
    - Numerous Help improvements.
    - Numerous minor bug fixes.

+1 for defaulting to non-destructive operations in all affinity apps...

A simple Non-destructive mode checkbox in the Context Toolbar should do the trick without having to send the user diving into the app's prefs...

Makes sense to me. You can always Convert to Curves later if you need to, but you can't convert to non-destructive later.

Paekke reacted to Stephen_H in Constrained snapping to colour values in colour mixer
When matching a colour selected from a colour swatch book, the odds are that I want simple, rounded off numbers like 50% cyan, rather than its lesser-spotted cousin, 52% cyan.

Could you introduce some way to snap to increments of 5% when dragging a slider? Perhaps holding the shift key while dragging?

(this is a personal issue I have with Illustrator… the sliders always seem to hop from 49% to 51% as if it's intentionally trying to avoid the common 50%. I seem to end up having to type 50% after a few frustrating attempts) I don't have this exact problem with AD or AP's sliders, but snapping would be a great option in my life.
