Xara Designer Pro from Magix has a QR-code plugin (although it isn't always working so well). And even Serif's own good old PagePlus could create QR-codes!!

I would love to see a QR code generator, like Adobe InDesign, added to Publisher. I don't think this would be too hard to do. I know there are sites that do it but they are usually not vector like InDesign does. I use this on a semi-regular basis for marketing brochures and flyers and business cards.

Although I do use Publisher more often than InDesign anymore as I force myself over before my Adobe Subscription expires, I still have to go to InDesign to create and copy it over to Publisher for the time.

    Great!
I insert Scanahand templates in Affinity Designer as artboards, so I can work with all characters (two A4 templates next to each other) as one document - but I can still export the templates separately.
This font is created using Affinity Designer (drawing the basic font), Scanahand (converting images to vector) and FontCreator (finalizing the font):

I drew it using a drawing tablet connected to my pc. Using a just basic vector brush when drawing, and afterwards changing the brush to a special one, and adjusting it a bit.

    I use the latest version.
The reason to do it with Scanahand templates and run the process through Scanahand is to convert the whole font all at once (instead of copying and converting every character separately).

There is a software program called Scanahand made by High-Logic, a Netherlands-based company.
    https://www.high-logic.com/
I bought a licence for version 4 professional when that was the then current latest version.
In fact I have not used Scanahand very much, mostly because I do not have a scanner in use.
In fact I have only made using Scanahand one font that I use other than for testing. That font was, in fact, made using the beta test version of the original Scanahand many years ago.
http://www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~ngo/localizable_sentences_the_novel_chapter_046.pdf The font made using Scanahand is on page 2 of the PDF
http://www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~ngo/localizable_sentences_the_novel_author_note_after_chapter_046.pdf The font is used throughout this document
However, although intended for producing fonts made using hand drawn hardcopy artwork scanned into a computer, it is also possible to produce, using Scanahnd, a font by saving an electronic copy of the unfilled-in artwork page and drawing the artwork using a software program. I had previously tried, a long while ago, using Microsoft Paint. I got fonts but it was difficult to produce the artwork and I only drew a few characters.
So this morning I tried using Affinity Publisher and the Pen Tool.
Although it was a test I am very pleased with what I produced.
I started by saving from Scanahand a one page unfillied-in artwork page and saved it as a png file.
I then, knowing that that form is A4 in size, or thereabouts, I started an A3 portrait document in Affinity Publiced and did a File Place... and got the form into Affinity Publisher.
I then went to CTRL 4 magnification and found the cell for the letter e and drew at the default line width which I think was 0.2 point, a glyph for a letter e, then using the tools to adjust the shape.
I then made the line 2 points wide. This was a first guess, in fact it worked well.
I the saved the A3 document and exported the form as a new png, with background.
I then used the filled in artwork to produce a font using Scanahand, then I installed the font, directly from Scanahand, and then tried the font at 18 point in a new Affinity Publisher font.
I then had another go, adding glyphs for p, a and l so that I could try to produce a font where a word such as the word apple could be spelled out.
Having tried the concept and got it to work I am hoping to start again and produce what I hope will be a nice font to use.
Scanahand has advanced features, so for a full attempt to produce a font I would produce an unfilled-in form that has light blue guidelines for baseline, x-height, ascender and descender, as Scanahand can disregard such guidelines when using artwork to produce a font.
I am including an image, exported from Affinity Publisher, yet please remember that this is from a proof-of-concept font.
    The font is shown at the following point sizes: 8, 10, 12, 14, 18, 24, 36, 48, 72.

In these forum pages I have noticed lots of good proposals being 'torn down' by others for no good reason, almost before they had the chance to see the light of day.
What is the point of negative comments in this forum, especially when they are responses from people who have no use of a proposed/requested feature, or those who cannot understand the utility of a particular feature or control?
As a reaction to those who prefer to knock very worthy proposals, I offer this suggestion: isn't it better to be positive and support anything that will help program developers produce a superior product? If one cannot be positive, why bother saying anything?
Being supportive of good ideas, rather than trying to knock them down, can only encourage a win-win. Better software (thus, happy users) and happy developers who will be encouraged to greater heights.

Welcome to the Serif Affinity Forums, Derek.
All the indications are that Publisher will be the same price as Designer and Photo (i.e. US$50 or equivalent). There's also a high probability of a generous launch offer, reducing the price significantly for a week or two after the retail release.
Judging by the loyalty offer which was promised to users switching from DP to Designer or from PhP to Photo but didn’t actually happen, I don’t expect Serif to make a similar mistake in relation to PP users.

I'm curious if the Publisher is going to include a tool to create QR code  like Serif PagePlus did?  (Adobe InDesign also have that tool too).   I had took a brief look into the Publisher beta  a few months ago but I didn't spend much time exploring because I was busy with my projects.  Just wondering if it will have that tool...and if it does, I'd  like to buy the stable version of Publisher when it comes out.  Thanks~

    How i imagine it?
Klick on a Button, f.e. QR Code, then a new window opens where you can enter your Text, V-card or url... what should be displayed when the code is scanned.
I have not found such a function. if it´s not possible at this time,  it would be very nice if it will be build in one time

    Yes, it's great already, but...
"As this is a beta it is considered to be not suitable for production use. This means that you should not attempt to use it for commercial purposes or for any other activity where you may be adversely affected by the application failing, including the total loss of any documents."
And the other - and more serious - problem is that you can't yet change between the applications (Affinity Designer & Affinity Photo) when working on an Affinity Publisher document.

janndk reacted to Ash in Yet another App Icon comment...
To offer some explanation on the icons. One of the completely unique things about Affinity is that we have our apps on iOS, Windows and Mac. More than that, they are exactly the same apps - same back end, same features and same file format. It’s important for us to be able to talk about the apps without always having a hard distinction between iPad and desktop and so it doesn't make sense to have completely different icons on those platforms (other than the rounded corners Apple give all icons on iOS).
On top of that, we felt the current icons don't work as well when they are very small or on darker backgrounds as the silhouette gets lost, or indeed on Windows where the start menu and MS Store is a lot more set up for square icons.
Hopefully that gives you some insight into our rationale, and if you're not keen on them you can forgive us! We knew it was something which could be a little controversial.
    Thanks,
    Ash
p.s. we are making a few tweaks to the size on Mac - as has been said by a few on here they are perhaps a few pixels too big. Also we decided to not worry about having a beta indicator on these - the main reason we have had that before is to distinguish between the beta and retail version when you have both installed, but as the icons have changed on this round that isn't needed. We will have a beta indicator on them for any future beta versions once the 1.7 versions have shipped.
