The iPad is the future and so is Affinity but i do hope they polish things like this a little bit more. More and more people want to go away from competition but its the small things that make a app great so i hope they iron these bugs out.

This would be so handy, as I work on both and at times the iPad is just so much more convenient.

BobsDaubs reacted to AnnieW in Brush Factory 1 - free Textured Intensity Brushes
Last november I published a set of Textured Intensity Brushes on this forum by the cryptic name of CTSR Lines (which makes sense to no one but me). Those brushes have repeating patterns. When creating the brushes I encountered some problems with patterns getting squished and such.
I created some more brushes in a second set and came across an additional quirk (which offset values to use for pixel perfect pattern alignment?). So although it’s just a few months ago, it’s time for a revised set. Time to rename my brush making into something else too. I figured out a much faster way to produce large sets of brushes, cutting out a lot of unnecessary steps, so I rename my series Brush Factory.
    So here’s the set again.
Renamed Aspect ratio of 1 in the source file to prevent distortion of the patterns Patterns repeated 3 times in source to prevent issues with repetitions This is new: adjusted the offset values to 80 and 159,4 to have the repetitions align perfectly The Pointy and Round brush families are repeating, the Stripey families are stretched. The brushes all contain a centred line (in 3 widths, S, M and L) and repeating shapes and stripes above or above and below. The brushes with stuff above the line, but not under are therefore not vertically centred on the stroke. In the Stripey families I added 3 lines with a different center point. Those 3 are symmetrical, the extra version is vertically centred on the whole stroke.
Source of (almost all) of the patterns is a 240*240px image. This is a rather small image, so in wide lines, the edges of the pattern blur. I’ve created the patterns as a vector drawing, feel free to ask for a brush from a larger source (less blurry) if you need one. @StuartRc says helpful things about the size of sources in this post:
    https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/64287-creating-vector-brushes/
When using these brushes on a tightly curving curve or a sharp corner they of course do deform. Experiment with the brush setting for Corners and the Stroke Cap to find the best solution for your project.
The attached .zip file contains a PDF with examples and nine brushes files to import into Affinity Designer.

    Geometric pattern textures (Red)
    Organic pattern textures.(White)
I was going to add these into an asset library but the compound paths may be a bit too large...So I have done it the old way as 'letraset sheet'

AD 1.7 file contains 2 pages consisting of 50 vector patterns created directly from inkBrush sets for Geometric and Organic Brushes

BobsDaubs reacted to Granddaddy in Official Affinity Publisher V1 (Desktop) Tutorials
@Patrick Connor said "There is an Affinity Photo Desktop and Affinity Photo iPad channel on VimeoPro already I have no idea why there is not an equivalent for Designer, Designer iPad and Publisher, other than the time it takes to do. I will push for some consistency."
For Affinity Photo I hope you will also push for some organization to the display of those tutorials. At this moment for Photo Desktop there are 7 pages with 9 tutorials each plus an 8th page with one tutorial. The pages are not numbered so there is no way to orient yourself within the random display. The videos are not in any discernible order so there is no efficient way to browse for something you might need.  The date of posting is not shown so you cannot tell if any particular video is new or months old. The Search box is not very useful unless you know exactly what you are looking for. You are probably better off using some general web search engine to find Affinity Photo tutorials instead of going directly to the Affinity page on Vimeo. Also, there is no way to download the tutorials.
The iPad page is worse as the moving ribbon of tutorials is grayed out in my Vivaldi browser and so barely readable and extremely difficult to browse.
I wish Affinity had not hidden its old Photo tutorials when 1.7 was released. There were some 225 tutorials at that time. Surely they are not all considered outdated. I myself downloaded most of them when that was possible since I've learned never to depend on any company to keep useful information online. Fortunately at least one individual with his own web site prepared an organized list of the old Vimeo tutorials and that is still available.
I greatly appreciate @Alfred's work in preparing an organized list of official Affinity Publisher tutorials.

On a related subject, it would be great if there was some way to tell if *.afbrushes files were vector or raster ones without having to open them in Designer. I once asked if there was some identifying characters in a file header or some such we could check by opening these files in a text editor & searching for that, but nothing ever came of it.

It doesn’t just report vector brushes as being imported, it actually imports them! This seems a bit pointless — and a waste of storage space — given that we can’t use them.

Seriously... What is the point of isolation mode if i cannot edit the object? The moment I click onto a child object the entire piece is made visible again! Imagine the pain looking at the demo piece 'A' and wanting to look at a leaf that is in the background and partially obscured. Say i want to edit the veins but when I click on one the entire piece again obscures what I want to edit. Now I have to painstakingly make hidden all the surrounding objects which takes minutes. Again, what's the point of isolation mode again? Sigh...

    Protractors & moveable zero-point rulers
I have removed the existing files from the Resources Forum, and replaced them with an updated version (v2.0)
    Changes :
    >One-click color change.
    >No separate horizontal and vertical rulers.
    >>If a separate Hor/Vert ruler is needed, open the file and delete the obsolete ruler.
    >Rulers & Protractors are now also available as "Asset".
    >Naming conventions streamlined.
Please feel free to edit/change the files to your liking.
The rulers/protractors are available as file  for use with Affinity Photo as well as Asset for Affinity Designer.
For using the rulers/protractors, please refer to the "How To" file / asset.
    PS:
Instead of having to copy/paste a ruler, you can also stick the ruler files onto your desktop and upon use, drag it onto the canvas. It will then show up as an embedded document (separate layer) which you can also delete when no longer needed.
I hope you find them useful until the upcoming release of the much anticipated major 1.7 update.

I am not sure what it was like in the old 1.6 Windows version but in the old 1.6 Mac version it was always necessary to switch to the Node tool to reshape a curve, & there has been no change in that respect in the Mac 1.7 update.
