Thanks for letting me know Walt. 👍

I kept chasing my tail looking for this option, and while I wish it was there, it's good to know for sure it's not.

gidkid got a reaction from Oufti in How do you draw 'dots'?
Actually, you can do this for a circle using dashed lines and a shape with no fill.
Click points making a shape with no fill with the pen tool where you want the dots. Set the stroke to dashed line Set cap and join to rounded, align in middle. Turn off phase if enabled Set dash size to zero Set space to something large like 100 Dash width will now control your dot size.

Not as nice as if you could use a pen tablet and just click to make dots and control the size of the dot by pressure, or like having a point cloud with control over different instances of shapes, but might help some folks?

Note: currently there is a bug where if you zoom out with dashes that have a fair amount of spacing, AD will cull them from screen. Was driving me crazy on a project as I thought I'd missed points and kept making them again only to zoom out and in and find them appearing and disappearing over and over again LOL!

That was it! Didn't event think to look there since I've never edited it.
What might have caused it to change? Is it maybe that this was added at some point, but my old preferences which didn't have it, were carried over?

Personally, I have no problem with dots to indicate Activity and Visibility, I would just suggest using solid and hollow dots to indicate ON and OFF status, not brightness of dots.

Solid/hollow dot is a visually understandable and unambiguous, and also saves space in the Layers panel (thanks for that).

+1 there are a lot of ways to do this in Illustrator, and some are very easy.

I was actually a bit shocked to find this wasn't in affinity designer given how many pattern designers and such use vector programs.

Click + Alt could simply be a toggle type node like in other programs. No need to make it more complicated than that - and easy to remember (important). 🙂

Any news on getting a gradient to flow along the path of a curve like some other apps can use?

One of those small things that sends me back to Illustrator at times. I use these mainly for effects in AE or in substance designer where you can drive certain things based on gradient inputs. Things like animated writing etc.
Thanks for the new additions to 1.9 BTW- really like the select same as tools etc.

Thanks for adding the select same and select object functions. Those are a few of the small things that had me sometimes sticking in Illustrator more than designer.

I know they're not the most "sexy" features but they're real work horses. Thank you!

After years of using PS for my work I recently started using Affinity Photo for work on my 3D product renderings after some colleagues made me finally take the plunge. My main reasons are:
Work in 32bit the whole time vs. 16bit with some 32bit smart objects File sizes that save fast on any of my drives at 100-500mb vs. 3-5GB in PS compressed (saves painfully slow) or 10-15GB uncompressed PS files that only saves fast on my NVME drives. Performance while working. Affinity isn't crazy fast on my files, but it's faster than PS, and the previews are nicer/faster. AMD 1950x and a 2070 RTX system for ref. Affinity has many non-destructive tools. I have only watched a few PS 2021 previews, but most of the things added seem more applicable to photo editing in a photo-retouch work grind way and using AI/machine learning in ways that don't seem to enhance my workflow. Is there anything in there that makes all the tools work in 32bit, enhances performance on large files or cuts down on the file size bloat?
I think the only thing I saw of interest to me was the seamless texture painting, but honestly 99% of the time now I'm going to use Substance (which is probably where the tech for PS comes from) or something else for these things. Maybe it will be more useful for pattern designers, though a lot of them will just work in vector using AI or AD or even on the ipad in apps like procreate so this is a bit of a nice to have but not ground breaking IMHO.
For me it has nothing to do with the cost as I can easily afford PS and affinity and will continue to do so, it's just more about actual work flow and time. I'm probably not the target audience for either PS or Affinity Photo, but at least Serif seems to take more notice of 3D workflows. We just need an actual cryptomate workflow (not just color ID like the tutorials are showing). 😁

gidkid got a reaction from Mariusz go in Nodes/Control Points sensitivity
I'm having this problem too. I go to move nodes and end up moving the control handles on the node instead. The closer the handles are to the node, the worse the problem is and the closer I have to zoom in to change them. Really breaks up the work flow in an unfortunate way.
I almost wish there was an option to enable "edit node handles only with finger hold" or something, where if you use a single finger or the pencil it only moves the node, not it's control handles, but if you add a finger held down on the screen, it now moves the handles. Something similar to that might be nice for the ipad work flow.

Is there any way to change the sensitivity of the nodes and the control points in AD for iPad?
Ofthe when I choose several nodes, and want to move them, it ends up I move one of the control points, unless I zoom out a lot.. and if I zoom out a lot, it can be a little difficult to move the nodes in a right way, as I don’t see the whole picture.
I guess it’s a little “get used to”, but it can be a litttle hard.. even to choose some nodes if they are too close.
If this isn’t explained we’ll enough, I’ll try to make a video of my “problem”
anyways, so far I mostly love the AD for iPad :-)

I don't know. I have used a bunch of 3D apps- and none of them do EVERYTHING or do it well. Zbrush, Maya, C4D, MODO, Houdini, blender- all great apps, but each has it's focus and user base. Yes, each does the basics, but beyond that they diverge and specialize, which is a good thing, else what's the point! ;-)

On the 3D side- Affinity is MUCH, MUCH better for the average 3D user wanting to composite and work with higher range images etc. It's an area that PS totally lacks in. As Rayek said- anyone remotely serious about 3D is going to download/use a dedicated 3D application. Maybe there is a workflow that is different than I'm use to, but I have yet to see a good day to day use of either PS or Illustrator's 3D tools (which are horrible).

Of the retouch people I know, they like affinity, but say it doesn't have all the tools they need yet. For all the people that seem to only need some PS features, but need higher bit depth editing etc. then Affinity is a better fit- and they love it.

Affinity needs to stick out of the pack, not just be a me-too app. I'd say so far, with the price and differentiating features it's doing that well. I haven't seen a product line like the Affinity set actually give Adobe users an honest second look in probably 20 years. Even if it doesn't live up to expectations, just the fact it IS viewed as an alternative says they're doing the right thing development wise.
