I upgraded to Affinity Designer 2.2.4.1 and now I see the little dots. No doubt I was doing something wrong before, but works fine now. Thanks for the help!

OK. I downloaded prior versions of Affinity Publisher, then opened my AFPUB file from April 2023 within each of the versions. See the results in the attachment.
In April, I would have been on Affinity Publisher version 2.0.4. When I open my AFPUB file in that version, the text flow looks fine. In any later version, it does not. So it could be that something changed in the Affinity Publisher software after 2.0.4.
I also was on macOS 13.3 back in April, and am on macOS 14.0 now. I have no easy way to test my AFPUB document under different versions of macOS. There is some possibility that my issue relates to macOS changes, but the timing doesn't line up quite as well.
Anyway, I'm not sure if there is anything further I can do to get the text flow back the way it was, other than to re-build the book page by page. If that's what I need to do, ok. But if anyone has any other thoughts, pls let me know. Thanks.

pomme27 got a reaction from JariH in How to auto scale text on a curve?
I want to scale down an object using the Transform panel. But when I do so, the "text on curve" does not auto scale down with the object. Attached is a screenshot showing the result I get. Also attached is my Affinity Designer file.
To scale down the object with the text, the only thing I do is type a smaller width value in the Transform box.
Any thoughts on how to do this? I have a lot of objects with text on curves, so I'm hoping that I'm making some silly mistake and won't have to scale the text manually. Thx.

Wow. You folks are great. All of you. I'm back in business now thanks to the advice and fonts provided. I really appreciate it.
Bottom line to all this, per the above: The font I was using appears to have been deprecated in macOS Ventura, in such a way that even though I had used it in an Affinity V1 design, it no longer is consistently recognized under macOS Ventura. The PhoenicianAF-Regular font fills the void nicely.
    Thanks again!

Thank you for the hint. I created a new text style, then selected the "Delete text of this style" setting. I hadn't noticed that setting before. Seems to do the trick!

Yes, I used the recommended format and all went well. And yes, I had some images in the book. But the images were charts and graphs, not stylish artwork or photo-like images.

I am using Affinity Publisher to create my first print-on-demand book for submission to Amazon KDP. Anyone happen to know which of the PDF Presets to use?  Perhaps the "press ready" one? Thanks.

Your tutorials are great. This is a request that you create an additional tutorial video. Read on please.
I suggest you create a tutorial on how to import book-length text (50,000 to 100,000 words) into Affinity Publisher. Talk about the various source formats that can / should be used (e.g., PDF, TXT, RFT) and the various benefits of each. Talk about how best to import text while still retaining the formats and styles from the source text (or, if that is not possible, make clear what is / is not possible). Talk about what you should already have set up in your Affinity Publisher document before you import text. Talk about the pros and cons of importing text via File > Place, copy-paste, or other methods.
I find that importing a small amount of text (a few paragraphs) is pretty straightforward. But importing and formatting a large amount of text is cumbersome. So maybe I'm just doing something wrong. I think it would be better to watch a tutorial on this rather than ask a bunch of individual questions in the forum.
    Thank you.

I ran the Apple Hardware Diagnostic, and it identified a memory error.   So it appears to be a coincidence that my iMac shuts down only when using Affinity Designer.  Fortunately, the machine is under warranty.  Apple is going to replace the memory chips and logic board this coming week.  Fingers crossed ...
