Hi Walt, thanks for making this clear. I must say that Affinity does not lack to bring tears to my eyes - often out of delightment but also quite often out of sheer disbelief. This hyphenation behaviour is wrong in so many ways, UX, usability of features, setup.... Don't you agree?
BTW: I lack to understand the reason for Publisher to have several hyphenation settings in chars and paragraph panels - You can switch it on in chars panel and nothing happens until you switch on "Use auto hyphenation" in the paragraph panel. That is UX wise just not intuitive. Sometimes Affinity thinks around 5 corners.
Select the text - choose hyphenation (language is cool here, but I definitely should be able to set it document-wide, too) and *boom* - it would work.

"Free vector perspective" and "Free vector extrusion" is a MUST for many professional users.
Without this function, the program can only be used by artists.
I work as a technical illustrator and would be happy to bury CorelDraw and Illustrator.
Just like Affinity Photo has replaced Photoshop.
But unfortunately this is NOT possible without these functions.
I'm looking forward to future updates and uninstall the actual designer demo again...  : - (((

Just adding another voice to the wow this is damned annoying party. 

The bug affects Designer, Photo and Publisher (1.8.0):
As soon as I try to reorder (drag & drop) color swatches of a custom "System Color Palette" (regardless of being displayed as list or not) immediately crashes the Application.
This is very frustrating and I lost about half an hour of work 😞
Document and Application palettes won't crash the app, only "System" palettes do.
 
 

Colour swatches are the singly most ill-conceived, poorly designed aspect of the Affinity software suite. Working with spot colours is an absolute nightmare (and I don't use those terms lightly.) That's one thing Adobe got right, and something the Affinity devs would have done well to replicate, rather than trying to get clever and do their own thing. Gosh I hope version 2 starts to take this seriously.

Devs (programmers) making the UI design and decisions = design decisions like this ^ and lost hours of precious life. And all what @Barksley said.
User experience designers making the decision after consulting design professionals + customers and performing extensive user tests = something much, much better, perhaps even something wonderful
It is not just a shit-happens-it-may-be-improved-later-scenario... it can affect hundreds of thousands of users worldwide daily for years... besides affecting sales and brand value. The poor design may even never die for many reasons. Getting it right early in development using proper design strategies and UI specialists is a win-win.

It looks like this 1.9 has problems with keyboard shortcuts.
With Designer: Shortcut doesn't take effect when switching to Pixel Persona. I would have to reload my saved shortcuts ever time I start designer. The default Persona works fine. A similar problem also occurs with Photo. In Develop Persona, my custom shortcuts doesn’t work, no matter how many times I set or load it, it simply won't take effect.

I have bad experience of loosing all changes when switching from Affinity Designer to APhoto or APublisher. Its already second time I had by accident clicked on edit in Photo. After denying save in Photo (to get back into APublisher) all my artboards in ADesigner were gone. Today it happened again and all my DAY work is gone except first artboard.  Is it standard behaviour how these 3 apps interact or is it really bad bug?

Hello, and sorry if the question have been asked before, but I would like to know if there is a function that would select automatically the "similar objects" according to stroke colour, fill colour, and other parameters.
I used this function before in illustrator (Unfortunately, I no longer have it to check) and it was very useful, particularly when you have tones of layers.
One of the top reason I may use it is when I am trying to select die-cuts marks on small objects (think small stickers scattered on a big sheet of paper and needed to be cut with let's a say a plotter)
We use the same artwork to print the packaging and in that case, I need to get rid of the die-cut marks (they are all with the same stroke colour). The way I was doing in Illustrator was to select one die cut and "auto-select" all the others based on the reference selected stroke colour.
 
If it doesn't exist yet, I'd raise my voice for a feature request

Hi I would like there to be a shortcut for transparency.  I need to switch back and forth quickly and also I can't always work in transparency mode with the grid.  But it take few few extra steps to go to Document then Color and then check Transparency, and then to uncheck later on.  If there was a menu item then I could assign a shortcut to it but it's not there. 

Hi I'm just checking in again about a shortcut for transparency. I would like something like a toggle as in Illustrator's shift-CMD-D. In Illustrator I toggle back and forth quite a bit when designing. In Designer it's a bit of a chore to go to Document Setup > Color > set transparency on/off. Please show me a way to create a shortcut.

Hi is this still not a feature then in 2020? And what do you mean by the 'Basic Category (vector based)'? because ALL of them on the designer persona are vectors and so should be easily expandable. I went through a lot of them just now even the really basic looking ones and couldn't find any that expand.

In making my book, I began by placing a .txt file into Affinity Publisher and had the text auto-flow.   As I'm making adjustments, I want certain pages to stay still. Is there a way to unlink text frames without all the text disappearing?  In other words, I want certain pages to remain still and unaffected if I delete something on the adjacent page.  I know how to unlink a text frame but the content on the following text frames disappear?

If you show the ruler you can drag a guide from it onto your page. I zoom into the area of the page I want the guide and drag one on. 
I do agree with your suggestions about how the manager could be improved. Plus I would like to be able to convert objects to "guides" somehow, maybe a guides layer with everything under it being rendered into a guide.

For InDesign havers (who for some reason aren't using Publisher yet), the wavy lines will copy-paste into Designer as vector objects. Nice. 

Something I've always wanted out of InDesign but isn't a feature is a nice simple way to drop in patterns, as a fill method on any shape, as when I'm laying out I really like to use a lot of them as design elements. 

Is this a feature that is already planned! And if not hopefully the community agrees with me that it's a killer feature :)!
