In any of the shape tools, picture frame tools and artboard tool you can now cmd+click (macOS) or ctrl+click (Windows) to bring up a dialog to manually specify the size and other properties of the object you want to create. The new object will be created in the position that you clicked, and you have the option in the dialog to change whether that position relates to a specific corner, side or the centre of the shape being created.
For example, here I want to create a circle with 20mm diameter centred at the corner of the square. So I choose the Ellipse tool and then cmd / ctrl + click over the corner of the square. I then get the option to manually enter the size I want the circle to be, set the anchor position to be centre, and hit OK.

Each tool will remember the settings of the last time you created that shape. So in this case the next time I cmd+click with the Ellipse tool it will still be set to 20mm x 20mm anchored to centre.
Some additional notes about this feature:
When the dialog is up you can commit by clicking OK, hitting Return / Enter or clicking anywhere else on the document You can cancel by clicking Cancel or hitting Esc You can click-drag on any of the labels in these dialogs to change the values. So here you could click-drag on the "Width:" label for example. Hover + mouse roll over the values also changes them of course (along with Shift or Alt modifiers to increase / decrease steps made by a factor of 10). If you create a shape by dragging it out on your document, that will also set the W+H for the next time you cmd+click. e.g. if you drag out a rectangle at 100mm x 50mm and want to create another one you can just cmd+click and that size will be preset.

I am also interested in installing and updating Affinity software using winget.
Theoretically it would be easy to add Affinity software to winget as it only uses links to the installers and does not mirror the software itself.
Unfortunately AFAIK there are no direct download links from Serifs servers without need for prior registration available.

I would love the ability to install Affinity products via winget. Also keeping my machine up to date with winget is much easier.

I’m pretty sure that the Affinity applications are not UWP applications – they are WPF, as far as I can tell – so we users probably shouldn’t see much difference. (And the new Windows 10/11 store supports UWP applications so it wouldn’t matter anyway.)

I can confirm that GarryP is correct, the Affinity Windows apps use WPF currently, although our devs are hoping to move away from this in the future

If you drag a file onto your canvas it becomes a new layer.
If you drag a file onto your canvas while holding the Alt key, the Place Image panel opens, with the file preloaded in it, and the cursor becomes the Place Image cursor. This allows you to position and size it as you want.
Edit: And if you select multiple files and drag them onto your canvas while holding the Alt key, they all appear in the Place Image panel, and you can Place them individually using the Place Image cursor/tool.

Thanks. No ideas, other than doing a search for directories named "1.0 (Store)" someplace else, in case Windows has decided to put it somewhere else. Even that might not help if it's a permissions issue, though.

Other 'not so intuitive' things about the panel:
It is not obvious the little dotted square Link Drop icon 'targets' are the only place where the layers can be dropped, or really even that they are drop targets. It would be more intuitive & easier to use if the layer could be dropped anywhere on the names of the attributes, eliminating the need for those tiny little targets.
On Macs, you don't even get the prohibited icon when trying to link a layer to itself. Instead, when you release the mouse button the dragged layer flies back into the Layer panel.

Ok now understood, tried and worked, use translator is still not so efficient. But the way to do this is not so intuitive, until you understand that the layer should not be selected, it is quite frustrating. Thank you for your help.

You selected it just before dragging it. If your layer is highlighted with a blue colour then it is selected. You have to drag the layer that is not highlighted blue or it will not work (remember to hold down the mouse button the entire time when dragging the non-highlighted layer).

I use Affinity Designer to lay out a lot of designs which I bring over to a laser cutter.  With contours now I can just do a couple test cuts, and then just select everything and adjust the whole multi-piece design to just make everything 0.015" bigger or whatever to account for the laser kerf!  This is amazing and now all my stuff will fit together better and the middles of the letters won't fall out of my stencil font text as readily.
I had a process for doing this before but it was awkward and destructive. This is much much better!

I use a palette generator called Coolors and I would love if there was an integration to display those saved palettes directly in Affinity. On Adobe there's a plugin for that and I'd love if Affinity had one too. I canceled my Adobe a long time ago but would love this functionality in Affinity. Thanks for looking in to it!!

I also prefer the consistency, but we should keep in mind that functions may have different importance, based on the app you're in. E.g. Toggle Quick Mask or Enhancement are important for Photo while Geometry is important for Designer.

I have read several times in recent years that Serif works/will work at DAM. DAM is a completely logical and necessary step to complement the Affinity Suite, but its priorities are unfortunately apparently low.
