Which IPad to get for Affinity Photo

Recommended Posts

Hi, I am new to this group. I currently use Affinity Photo for editing on a Laptop which works ok (it’s not a high spec laptop so can be a little slow) and I am looking at using an IPad for more remote editing. I currently edit a lot on my phone which Affinity doesn’t support. What IPad would you recommend using? I sync with a Canon camera and want to edit RAW images also, but want to get something that doesn’t break my bank balance! Thank you

I would go for an refurbished 10.5 iPad Pro. You can get it relative inexpensive with Apple Pencil 1 and an after market Lightning to SDCard reader. With the upcoming iPad OS 13 you can then finally access all RAW Files directly, without the need to import them first into the photos app.

Most important, both Affinity Apps run awesome quick on that device. I edit often 24MP raw Nikon files without any hiccups. (To be honest its even faster then on my Desktop PC)

cheers,

Lutz

Any of the iPads found in the iPads section of this page should work fine with Affinity!

From the linked page:

Filter by font subset, e.g. eCyrillic

What is “eCyrillic”?? :/

I have to disagree with everyone. Go with the iPad Pro 11” with Apple Pencil. No reason to compromise on specs, also Liquid Retina with 120hz refresh is outstanding. The money you’d save by getting an older  model or refurbished does not compare with the huge benefits the new iPad Pro has.

I’m sure the “huge benefits” are justification enough if money is no object. However, the OP wrote:

I read that part also “...doesn’t break my bank...” I would say if anyone is serious to shoot raw and using an editor such as affinity or photoshop then why stop there?  To the OP go ahead and break the bank you won’t be disappointed at all with the new iPad 9_9 now I’m not suggesting going into debt or overdrafting, just budget and maybe work a little overtime ~ don’t shrink your passion for photography and editing to the size of your paycheck, increase your paycheck to fuel your passion.

@Mbutler110 just friendly motivation to not settle for subpar tools, something as fine and delicate as image editing requires the best. Let your tools reflect your passion. Liquid Retina, ProMotion & True Tone are amazing. You won’t be disappointed and neither will your photographs

I would wait until September, if you can.  The new Ipad’s Will be released with the all new IpadOS.  12.9 if you can push the funds.  Storage should not be a problem, get external HD or you may already have one.
