Cursor indicator in ruler disappears when dragging guides onto page...WHY?

Recommended Posts

There is an indicator line in the ruler when moving the cursor around the page, but as soon as you drag a page guide onto the page, that indicator disappears just when you need it most!

WHY? Having that indicator line would be extremely helpful when placing guides on the page based the ruler. I've noticed that Affinity apps have really terrible interface glitches, many of which are reported and then never fixed or take years to fix. Such as this...

Displaying white text against a light gray background when you click into a field is bad enough, but the text is also duplicated several times and all messed up. I reported that several versions ago in Photo, and the bug is still there.

Hi Tom Hu,

Welcome to the forums :)

In regards to the indicator I recommend making a post in the Feature Requests section regarding this as its by design and not a bug. If you posted the issue you are having with Text on the forums before could you send me a link to the post?

Re indicators, a definite +1 from me.

Actually the indicators are there but not initially, see steps below.

  1. Select the Move tool
  2. Drag a guide out and as you will see no indicator in the ruler
  3. Release the guide
  4. Now move that same guide again, the guide now extends into the ruler area.

I'd say this isn't by design, but a bug.

Another point, when dragging a guide out initially, there is no numerical reference, when the guide is released and then moved again the numerical reference is displayed.

Created a bug report for Mac.

The term "by design" appears to be a Serif catchall for any behaviour that isn't counter to the the software's explicit design specifications, regardless of how irrational it would be to deliberately specify that behaviour in the design.

"By design" or "as intended" or the like is pretty much industry standard terminology for anything that works the way the coders expected it to work, while "bugs" are things that do not work as expected.

I think this falls into a more nebulous third category, that being things that were overlooked or never considered during development, or so I hope.

Mac seems to be a bit behind Windows.

So does this need to be reported for the applicable Mac betas, or do you have that covered?
