Each time I load a photo to work on, it seems to auto select the photo and I can't work on it. It's so bleached out, I cant see my adjustments. I've tried to screenshot it but it goes away. If you look at the photo below, the entire editing area (grey area and image), highlight so much you can't see any changes made (for example) in the adjustment layer. I am using a MAC and I'm still using the trial version if that helps any. It pops on and off with no reason, not if I click something or move off screen. It just just pops in and out ant anytime and most stays on.

The layer is shows with a small lock symbol in layers panel.
this lock protects agains accidental movement or resizing. If you try to use the move tool (which is actually active in the screenshot), it may cause the observers behavior.
you can unlock the layer by clicking on the lock symbol, so it vanishes.

Hello,

I tried that and its still doing this. As I said, in the dark grey areas, it turns light gray with the selection border around the image. The photo goes from the color you see to a bleached out version.I took the lock of the background layer and it still does the gray out.

Can you share a .afphoto file so we can see the problem occurring?

Hi @C Gerard,

It would help to see a screen recording of this issue, but if you're unable to provide this can you please confirm for me:

  • Are you using an M2/M3 based mac?
  • Do you have a 'Liquid Retina XDR display' connected/in use to your mac?

In Affinity Photo 2 with your document open, please select the Pan (Hand) Tool and you should see the Colour Profile in use for the file. Can you please confirm the Profile that appears here in your document for me?

Many thanks in advance :)

Many thanks for confirming that for me!

I can verify that our team are aware of an issue caused by the 'Apple Wide Colour Sharing Profile' on M2/M3 macs, which our developers are currently working to resolve.

In the meantime, if you navigate to Affinity Photo 2 > Settings > Performance and untick Metal Hardware Acceleration, then restart the app as prompted, you should find this no longer occurs when moving the cursor over the canvas.

I hope this helps :)

This fix should soon be available as a customer beta and is planned for inclusion in the next customer release.
Customer beta builds are announced here and you can participate by following these instructions.
If you still experience this problem once you are using that build version (or later) please reply to this thread including @Serif Info Bot to notify us.

Isn't the current customer beta 2.3.0.2157 & thus already available?

I can confirm the above post verifies that the issue you reported here has been fixed in our latest update (v2.3) which is currently in beta.

We're hoping to release this update shortly to retail, so I would not worry about trying the beta version specifically and instead keep an eye out for the 2.3 update notification in the app.

After updating to version 2.3, you should find this 'flashing' no longer occurs over the image in Affinity.

I hope this clears things up :)
