How can I get rid of the shadow below the bowl?

Hi,

I would like to do that and make the picture look better for a poster that I want to do, which I think will be around 10x14 of usable area. I am guessing that I will want the image to perhaps fill half or 1/3rd of the page.  Maybe even smaller and put it on the left or right side with text taking up the rest of the section.

The original is 5184x3880 but I made it smaller using Photo V2 to upload here.

  What happened to the other export file formats that were in V1???  The only option I have is .PNG?

I also have a RAW file for it if someone would rather use that one.

Hi, to switch export formats, click on the PNG, the. A choice list opens.

i would use a curves adjustment, combined with a crescent shape matching the shadow area quite well, and radial gradient. Then lots of fine-tuning of the gradient, add 3-5 nodes and adjust opacity and position. Adding blur via layer fx helps.

Make a selection of the plate, refine it and copy to new layer
Drag that layer down to just cover the shadow

Make a selection of the top half of the original background and create a new layer
Move that layer down to match the position of the new plate's position

Crop top of document to remove old background which is still showing

(Optional) Copy small part of lowest part of background image, extend the canvas (at the bottom) and flip & paste into the extended canvas to extend the lower portion of the image

Tidy up with a bit of inpainting and cloning where desired

The best way is during image capture: make an additional photo from identical position, with plate removed.

Interesting!  Where would the reflector go and where would I get one?

I may not do any more pictures of food.  I was asked to cook for an Eagle Boy Scout fundraiser for an AED for the local American Legion. I volunteered to do the poster to put around town since it is my food 🙂

You can use any bright object in a sufficient size, for instance a large white paper or cardboard. A foam board has the advantage of low weight. For frequent, professional use there are various options, for instance a textile version. An even more brightening option can be a light box that also avoids reflections of objects outside the scene.

To reflect the direct light illuminating the object, it gets positioned opposite to the light source and at an appropriate angle, for instance in your example image above or next to the camera. The closer it is to the motif, the more it brightens the scene.

I don't see the Crescent option any where in V2.  I will check V1.  And how would I fine-tune the gradient?

Take 2 photos

1. table without plate
2. table with plate

you can then perfectly cut-out the plate and place it to the first photo - no shadow.

By default, it is grouped with some other shape tools, so look for a shape tool with a small triangle at the bottom right of its Tools panel icon (probably the polygon icon) & click on that. You can also customize the items in the panel via the View > Customize Tools... item.
