Apps: Photo
Platforms: Windows and macOS

As has been requested you can now find the Place tool (previously only available in Designer and Publisher) as a customisation option in Affinity Photo (View -> Customise Tools) if you wish to add it to your main set of tools, making it more easily accessible than going to File -> Place.

Would be nice on iPad versions of Photo and Designer. Publisher already has it on iPad. This is especially since the iPad versions don’t have the Edit in Photo/Designer/Publisher options so far as a work around.

Why would you use "Edit in" as a workaround when all you need to do is click the Document menu and click Place? That seems much simpler than switching to an entirely different application just to click an icon.

To add multiple images in one go which you can do with the place tool compared to the menu place command for creating collages quickly.

They're supposed to work the same way. At least, they do on the desktop, and so they should on iPad, too.

In terms of adding place as an optional toolbar button in the iPad versions of Designer and Photo that is a little more complicated as we currently do not have tool customisation. It is something we want to offer in the future so can look at it again then.

In terms of how place works from file menu, and that you get ability to multi-select in Publisher and only single select in Photo and Designer I think that's a valid comment. We should just make them work the same and allow multi-select in all apps - we'll look at that.

Finally worth saying outside of using the place function you can use iOS drag-drop which also allows multi-select. This is in Designer - so I can multi-select a bunch of images from Photos and after drop they end up in my place panel to add to my document sequentially.

Yes but we know there is often two different results, import from photos and share from photos often bring two different versions of the image, sometimes the original image and sometimes the jpg version. This has altered over IOS versions of course but both methods are needed in my opinion.

Also try selecting images from different folders and albums, I have 50’000+ images in my iCloud photos in hundreds of albums in tens of folders. The place tool in publisher allows me now to do that but I need to use full Photo not the cut down studiolink Photo. Yes the tool could be triggered from the menu - place command and then run with the new Publisher place multi image functionality, that would be great !

VERY much like the Place tool. Not being able to place an image if I had a text layer selected was a major pain. Strongly encourage you to make this a part of the next release. Thanks so much.
