PDF files do not open with "Group lines of text into text frames" set TRUE

The new Publisher on iPad is completely hamstrung by not being able to open PDF files in a sensible manner, the desktop PDF Option, "Group lines of text into text frames" should either be controllable in preferences or set to TRUE to allow PDF files to be imported in a sensible fashion as text frames not simply lines of text.

There is a way to achieve this on the iPad but makes the user have to jump through hoops and use embedded layers to enable this basic function, which also causes many crashes of the app so is the non-ideal way of importing PDF files correctly.

As a desktop publishing app, I consider this a bug.

We have now added the options available when importing a PDF on desktop to the iPad versions in the 2.1 beta. It would be great if you wanted to try it out in the beta and let us know what you think - you can sign up to the beta program here.

Thanks Ash, the addition of this new feature makes the importing and editing large PDFs on the iPad much, much better. Paragraphs do tend to have paragraph marks at the end of each line of text but these are relatively easily removed with search and replace.

Thanks very much DM1.  If there’s no approx date for the release of 2.1, it would be good to know if files created on the beta will be compatible with the full version?  I’m really keen to finally start using this app, but it’s of little use until it can import documents to work on. Many thanks

There usually isn't.

They should be, but there are no guarantees.
