You cannot choose the image resolution (dpi) when exporting.

Recommended Posts

Which application are you using, and what format are you exporting to? What options have you chosen in the Export dialog?

As far as I know, nothing significant has changed in the capabilities in this area, so what worked in V1 should still work in V2.

I think it was easier to choose the image resolution at the time of export as in version 1.

Here's a screenshot of the export options from V1 of Photo, exporting to JPEG:

And here are the export options exporting from V2:

All of the same options are present in V2, that were present in V1. So this is not a difference between the two versions.

I am using Affinity Photo.
I want to export from a developed dng file to a jpeg file at 300 dpi, but I can't choose the dpi.

Captura de pantalla 2022-11-16 180614.jpg

Calidad = the quality of the jpeg file you're exporting, expressed as a percentage value, ie. 0% - 100%. It doesn't mean DPI

At 100% quality, no quantization occurs, which is usually responsible for most of the lossiness of a jpeg file, so the file is bigger and better quality.

The second option your arrows point to is the option to include the bleed. From the Affinity Photo documentation

When selected, the bleed area of your document, if set, will be included in the output. (Primarily used when working on Affinity Publisher or Affinity Designer documents in Affinity Photo.)

There is no dpi setting in the export options.

I am not sure there is a DPI/PPI for JPEGs, just Pixels. I could be wrong, I am frequently wrong. You'll have to do some arithmetic 7 inch wide print at 300 DPI is 7 x 300 = the number of pixels for the width setting.

Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 12.7.6
Affinity Designer 2.5.5 | Affinity Photo 2.5.5 | Affinity Publisher 2.5.5 | Beta versions as they appear.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

There are DPI (or perhaps PPI) setttings in the metadata (if it is included in the export) which will help determine the size that the file will display in a browser or print on a printer. But I think it's used only for that. The primary concern is how many pixels there are in each dimension.

Sorry,  @walt.farrellI could have sworn there was an option to choose the DPI, but I was wrong. I was probably messing with other software that does offer that option. I apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused. In any case, it would be nice to be able to have the option to choose dpi/poi when exporting.

Thank you very much for your attention and help..

Thank you too @rvst @Old Bruce

  • 4 months later...

It would be really helpful to have the option to choose a specific DPI/PPI, in both desktop and iPad versions. At the team I'm working at I need to export to SVG and send it to a coworker, only so he can then open it in Photoshop and export it to PNG in the right DPI. It's a tedious process. In so many ways, the Affinity applications are fully competitive with Adobe, but this little detail makes a PS license necessary.
