I cannot even find where to upgrade, I can only find a link buy outright (ie as if I didn't already have version 1)

So how do I get an upgrade? Thanks

Nah, they aren't doing an upgrade. Everyone has access to the same price for a limited time.

There are debates on the forum about it that you could jump into if you like, rather than hijacking this thread for it.

Huge apologies for "hijacking" a thread that seemed relevant to Affinity 2.  I searched for relevant threads and this is all I found. Please don't blame for a less than adequate forum software!

Please can you educate me on the correct to place to post because I also have a question about what limited time means? Many thanks

@Mr Lucky  Serif starting sending emails out on November 8, which may or may not have reached you yet.  Or it may have gone to your Junk folder.  Since this is a new purchase, rather than a free update, you might like to visit the Affinity website.  Be sure to look at the Universal Licence option, because it is a wonderful opportunity at the 40% discount price.  I used Photo 2 as an example.  I hope this will help.

I still don’t understand where how I can upgrade from v2 to version 2 if I already have a licence, so as not to pay for it all over again.

I don’t expect it to be free, just want to know the upgrade price and how to get it.

I understand there is a discount for new users, but what about existing customers?

thanks

No, sorry, I didn't mean that you had hijacked it. I meant that if we went into a huge thread about how it's good or bad, that would have hijacked the thread.

I already saw two threads about it. I think both mentioned "upgrade" in the title.

I can add: I saw those threads in the feedback section, rather than support...

If you meant what you wrote, you don't need to upgrade. And updates (as in bug fixes) will be forthcoming for free.

But I think you mean that you don't understand how you can upgrade from v1 to version 2. You cannot. You can only buy version 2 outright.

Hope that helps.

Yes an upgrade from version 1 to version 2

OkK thanks for the info I couldn’t see it anywhere, I’d normally expect an upgrade price to be less than a new customer price. Sad if not but there you go.

Does anyone know if there is somewhere it says how long the discount runs for?

No, Serif has not, so far, stated how long the discount offer will continue.

FWIW, I agree.  I'm not particularly happy that new users get the product for the same price as long-time, loyal users.  I get that they are trying to increase their revenue stream.  I guess another example of "inflation" driven by the need for corporate profits.

I just hope that they don't start having a "full" update (e.g. from 2.x to 3.0) every year so that, while there isn't "officially" any "subscription", if you want the big updates that a subscription would include, you have to BUY a "NEW" version every year or so.

If the updates keep coming like they have with the 1.5+ (when I first bought Affinity Designer/Photo), then it'll probably be worth it.  If it is just another way to work in an annual (or so) major release, effectively making it a subscription if you want to keep up with the features as opposed to abandoned prior versions, then not-so-much.

I definitely like the DaVinci Resolve approach of pay once and get all updates forever.  But difference companies, different practices.

That said, I'll probably "upgrade" (i.e. BUY) the new version, but not until I can see that I'm getting something worth paying for.

My $.02...

Scott

It mist be somewhere. I'm not sure that is legal to omit important information. There are very tight laws around advertising limited time offers without being fully transparent about the time period.

It is perfectly legal, and numerous software companies use and have used this marketing strategy. They do not have to publish how long a sale runs. If you take advantage of it that's good for you. If you choose to put it off and the sale ends, well too bad, you had your opportunity.
