Pookiepal
I can’t find how to rename my documents and projects in Designer 2 Don’t want lots of “New Project” everywhere Edited November 9, 2022 by Pookiepal Added more
Staff Dan C Posted November 9, 2022 Staff Share Posted November 9, 2022 Hi @Pookiepal, To rename a new document on the iPad, swipe from right to left on the project thumbnail and select the first icon of 3 that shows. I hope this helps Pookiepal 1 Quote Please note - I am currently out of the office for a short while whilst recovering from surgery (nothing serious!), therefore will not be available on the Forums during this time. Print Monkey
The swiping gesture to bring up buttons with unfamiliar icons seemed unintuitive to me. Wish this would just go back to "burger menu" on the thumbnail like before. I had to look up how to do this in the help. (Of course now that I know how to do it its not confusing anymore.) Peter vB
I can indeed still rename a project, but not the individual photos. "Saving as" works, but than you have an extra copy outside of the sandbox. Is there no more option to rename a photo without saving an extra copy? JIT
I used to be able to rename documents in Affinity Designer for Ipad. Now in Affinity Designer 2, I can't find where to change the name. I can duplicate, but then it's gets confusing because I have a bunch of files with same name + copy, then copy copy, then copy copy copy...Surely there is a way to change the document names! Help! Currently there is no Rename function, as of 2.0.2. You can use Save As from the hamburger menu for the document in Live Docs. Or you can Duplicate and then use Save As. Svetoslav
Is there any plans to bring the Rename back? Suddenly working on Affinity for iPad became cumbersome and frustrating. I am still keeping the V1 but switching between versions? Is this how the future looks like? Thank you.

JaneE
Just want to say, hoping that renaming documents will be possible in the future. Saving As isn't a great option since you then also need to delete the original if all you want is a different name. Why add an extra step if you don't need it? No, use Duplicate option first then you have every version in your sandbox. Duplicate is on the left swipe on the home page on your chosen document. Use the Save, Duplicate - Name/Location, Save, Save ... Save, Duplicate - Name/Location workflow as you create each version of your document. (will be obvious once you duplicate your file) Svetoslav 1 Quote My dad always told me, a bad workman always blames their tools…. Just waiting for Ronny Pickering….. Maybe there's a typo you just noticed, or maybe something was accidentally left with the name untitled because you were working too quickly or didn't pay attention. Sometimes you just change your mind. Sometimes the option to rename instead of duplicate/save as is truly better.

JaneE
Thanks for the suggestions. I do get that there are multiple ways to get copies of a file with different names. That's perfect when you want different iterations. I use those options when I am working in that way. However none of the options seem to rename the original file. Which means you still have the extra step of deleting the original file, if you don't want to keep it. Workflow 2 just hides the original from live docs. It is still there in Files. Sometimes I literally just want a way to change the name of the original file. I hope renaming can be added in a future release!

I hope renaming can be added in a future release! It might return one day I guess but first it needed to be fixed for the people who like to save permanently their layered work so they could return to it later and without the devastating consequences when you need to re-install the app to fix a bug and find you have not only lost all your work in the sandbox but all the files you thought you were saving to the files area were simply overwriting each other. For those whose work is only temporary files and have no need to keep their work for the future then I can understand it is a bit of a pain. You are assuming that anyone who wants to rename from within the app doesn't permanently save their work. That's not the case! If it was just temporary and I didn't plan on keeping it, I probably wouldn't care about the name. 15 minutes ago, Paul Mudditt said: and find you have not only lost all your work in the sandbox but all the files you thought you were saving to the files area were simply overwriting each other. Yikes! That sounds rough. Though I'm not sure why renaming a file would lead someone to think that they were saving different copies of a file. If users don't understand how to save properly, that's certainly an issue that should be addressed. I just don't see what the capacity to rename within the app has to do with that. Paul Mudditt
In engineering it would be common to name a design Widget V1 then save it and rename to Widget V2 then save that and rename it Widget V3 then save and expect to have all three versions of your design safely stored in files area. However in V1 you would have only one file saved to disk, and that file would be the third version of your design BUT be called Widget V1 on disk. Confusing ? Absolutely!
