I know that now! I checked after I posted, instead of before. :(

The URL https://affinity.serif.com/learn should automatically adjust for the user’s locale.

It looks like all 3 workbooks are currently out of stock!

Maybe it should be but while I was switching from US English to Germany to get the urls I posted above, when I then tried  https://affinity.serif.com/learn it took me back to https://affinity.serif.com/de/learn/

So at least in Safari on my Mac, there seems to be some persistence of whatever locale was last set via the flag link at the bottom of the page.

If you do a Google Search (buy affinity designer workbook) for the specific workbook several links should pop up. Some of the books may be used but if you don't mind you can purchase.

GoodReads

AbeBooks

Amazon

Good Luck.

That’s what I would expect. It’s what your locale has been set to, regardless of whether that matches your geographical location or your system region/language settings.

To be clear, that is not the same thing as automatically adjusting to the user’s locale. Also, I have sometimes clicked on a link someone has posted in a reply that goes to a different language version than my own, & then it becomes the one my locale is set to, even though I did not do that myself. It is somewhat hit or miss, though.

When I said “it should automatically adjust”, all I meant was that it will take you to a valid page instead of returning something like a 404 Not Found error.

Serif no longer sells the Workbooks. See, for example:

You might perhaps find them on Amazon or eBay.

I know this is an old thread. I purchased this book preowned via Amazon but have to wait a week before it ships. So will this book still be helpful for Designer2? It seems to have good reviews.

Hi @Jecli and welcome to the forums.

I think you'll still find the work book useful. The menu commands and panels have changed a bit so you may have to hunt for a command, but you'll figure that out. The lessons in the work book are more or less timeless.

Thanks kindly, Mike. I appreciate hearing all of this. After searching online, I really didn't find too many print books available that are as comprehensive as this and which also have good reviews.I do remember reading some of the features have changed, but that's to be expected with software that tries to make improvements. Coming from a Photoshop background, I have some knowledge, but Photoshop's vector tools are few and far between. Even though Photoshop has the Pen Tool, it's one I seldom use.

I'm looking forward to my journey with Affinity (and yes, I purchased the suite because Publisher 2 sounds really interesting!). 🙂

I've written a free manual for Publisher. It doesn't cover drawing or photo editing but it covers all the document and text features in great depth and much of it applies to Designer and Photo, too. You can download the PDF free from the link in my signature. It's a traditional user manual format, not a cookbook like the one you've already purchased so they're complementary. I plan to share an updated version of my manual when 2.6 is released so check back for it then.

Cheers

The book was a smorgasbord of pretty ideas and none of the examples in it bore any relation to the work I do in ADe. I passed it on.

But surely it must explain how most of the tools work, shouldn't it? I'm not as interested in any projects or examples to try myself although I'd really like to learn how the tools work and see results of the tools in action.

Thanks, Mike! I just downloaded both of the files you have available.

Maybe it would work for you but I didn’t find it if any use.

I was one of the contributors to the Affinity Designer workbook. It's unfortunate that it's unavailable... but if you're interested, I wrote my own pretty comprehensive book (460 pages) on Affinity Designer for Packt Publishing. It covers up to Version 1.10 and it is still available on Amazon if that fits the bill for you. I cover all of the tools and interface in detail and there are 3 separate workshop chapters on creating 3 real world assignments, a logo and 2 types of illustration approaches.

Thank you. I added the book to my Wish List. I did purchase a preowned copy of the Affinity Designer Workbook - am just waiting for it to ship. Hopefully it will be here within the next week or so.
