sophie123 Posted September 23, 2021 Posted September 23, 2021 In Windows 10 Explorer, any .AFPHOTO or .AFDESIGN files are showing as application icons, rather than thumbnails. My .PSD files which open in Affinity Photo show correctly as thumbnails. Example below: I have followed instructions from various threads including: 1. "Save thumbnails with documents" 2. Unticking "Always show icons, never thumbnails" 3. Preview Pane shows a blank window You can see that these files are stored on OneDrive which I understand is a known issue. If I move these files into a non-OneDrive folder then the thumbnails appear correctly and are retained when I move them back to OneDrive. However, two interesting things: 1. The .PSD thumbnails now appear as icons and not thumbnails after the move 2. The thumbnails do not update if the .AFPHOTO or .AFDESIGN files are updated However, if I now refresh the folder, all of the .AFPHOTO and .AFDESIFN files go back to icons and .PSDs are shown as thumbnails. Why doesn't Affinity like OneDrive... or vice versa? Platform: 1. Windows 10 Home 2. Affinity Designer 1.10.1.1142 3. Affinity Photo 1.10.1.1142 Any help would be greatly appreciated Thanks pyxelles 1 Quote

Komatös Posted September 23, 2021 Posted September 23, 2021 Hello @sophie123 Are you using the OnDrive client that is set up during Windows installation or the UWP app from the Windows Store? There is no preview handler for Affinity programmes in the UWP app. In the Windows app, however, thumbnails should be displayed. This is a general problem with all cloud clients that do not use the Windows preview handlers. sophie123 Posted September 24, 2021 Author Posted September 24, 2021 @walt.farrell - many thanks. that got me googling in a different area which is coming up with some more options that I'll try this weekend @Komatös - many thanks for this pointer. I checked on the Microsoft Store for OneDrive and it's giving me the option to "Get" so I'm assuming I have the stock OneDrive client from the original Windows install. Overall, one item i haven't tried yet is the "Save space" - screenshot below. This is the first thing to fix to see if thumbnails return. If I uncheck this, I may run out of space on my local HDD! Other advice to clear the thumbnail cache has now stopped other thumbnails appearing. And down the rabbit hole we go.... Quote

Why do you not use a external hdd/ssd or a little file server (e. g. raspberry pi with nextcloud)? It costs a little, but you can be sure that no one can see your data. Even if all the cloud providers claim they are secure, someone always finds a security hole. Dan C Posted September 24, 2021 Posted September 24, 2021 Hi @sophie123, Welcome to the Affinity Forums I can confirm this issue is logged with our developers and I'll be sure to 'bump' this with them now - however as Walt has mentioned I do believe this is due to how OneDrive handled their 'synced' files. Unfortunately there's no workaround that I'm aware of for this issue once your files are 'synced', my apologies! Quote
sophie123 Posted September 24, 2021 Author Posted September 24, 2021 @Komatös It's on my list for Christmas now :) Thanks for the pointer @Dan C Many thanks for the welcome. Great to be amongst such awesome people. Thanks for letting me know this has been bumped. Looking forward to getting an update from Affinity with the solution. Dan C 1 Quote
Edwin de Kuiper Posted October 2, 2021 Posted October 2, 2021 These files are supported Affinity is not supported unfortunately. File types supported for previewing files in OneDrive, SharePoint, and Teams (microsoft.com) Quote
sophie123 Posted October 2, 2021 Author Posted October 2, 2021 Many thanks for the clarification @Edwin de Kuiper. Much appreciated. Based on @Dan C's response, hopefully it will only be a short time before Affinity files are supported. Thanks Quote
killzen Posted July 17, 2022 Posted July 17, 2022 I am having this problem with Explorer and have tried everything I know, from cleaning the thumbnails cache to adjusting the parameters in folder options to show thumbnails and not icons but still get what you see in the image below. I am running Windows 10 Pro. Can anyone help me? UPDATE: I simply unistalled Affinity (use the windows unistaller) and reinstalled and problem solved. Use the Windows unistaller via control panel since the 'detailed' uninstallers will wipe out all your settings, etc... Quote Light travels faster than sound. zeegmund1450 Posted July 1, 2023 Posted July 1, 2023 Sorry for digging an old topic, but I have the same problem. What's funny, is I just switched to a new PC, and on the old PC (same OS - Win10 Pro), all .aphoto files had thumbnails, even in OneDrive folders. Now I can't get them to show up. I tried as suggested by @killzen , uninstalling Affinity and installing again, but nothing changed. Quote
