Affinity Photo Customer Beta ( - RC2)

Recommended Posts

  • Staff

Status: Release Candidate

Purpose: Features, improvements and fixes.

Requirements: Purchased Affinity Photo

Mac App Store: Not submitted

Download ZIP: Download

Auto-update: Available

We are pleased to announce the immediate availability of the fifth build of Affinity Photo 1.10.0 for macOS.

If this is your first time using a customer beta of an Affinity app, it’s worth noting that the beta will install as a separate app - alongside your store version. They will not interfere with each other at all and you can continue to use the store version for critical work without worry.

This beta is an incremental update to the 1.9.3 version recently released to all customers (although it still installs parallel to the released version, as described above). We recommend that you use this beta in preference to the store version if you are affected by any of the issues listed below.

The changes in the 1.9.4 betas have been rolled into 1.10.

The Gradient bug is still there. One of your main tools is not working properly....

This has been happening since the 1.9 release; about (4-5) months ago.

I would consider it a priority bug...  Please don't release 1.10 without fixing this.

Still here with OS 10.14.6

Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 12.6.9
Affinity Designer 2.2.0 | Affinity Photo 2.2.0 | Affinity Publisher 2.2.0 | Beta versions as they appear.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

Despite my now having 32GB, even with the RC build, you are still losing track of memory (or just not bothering to clean up). I did some modest work with 9000x9000 layers, closed all the documents completely, and yet AP is still consuming 3.84GB of real memory. If I create a couple of documents with a few layers now, the memory shows 4.5GB. If I close the docs without saving the memory only goes down to 4.44GB.

If this was my team and my code I would want to know why memory is not being returned to the OS. Note that this is not VM but Real ram in use, and is not available to the other apps on the system; on low ram system it will eventually cause swapping (which is what I previously saw when I had only 16GB). I would never ship an app with such a cavalier approach to memory use. If you are using some kind of memory allocator that never returns any pages to the OS you might need to revisit that design. I can't believe this would be difficult to debug, even in C++. Maybe most users have 32GB and don't notice. It's still a bad idea to hog people's memory for no reason.

  • 4 weeks later...

We've had the Gradient Bug since Photo 1.9 was introduced in Feb 4.

I reported it in March.... It's been a while. Please tell the developers to put it up in the bug list.

This bug has happened before and they didn't take that long to fix it with an .01 update....
