Artsketch
Sorry, but will the blob issue at the beginning of a stroke with pixel brushes on iPad be ever solved? Especially the ink brushes. I tried to change all parameters but there isn’t any workaround. If this bug remains and further ignored the only option will be a 1 star AppStore rating. Staff Dan C Posted July 27, 2020 Staff Share Posted July 27, 2020 Hi @Artsketch, I'm very sorry to hear you feel this way - this is something our developers are aware of and I'll be sure to bump the report with our development team. Unfortunately I don't have an update to provide on this issue currently, my apologies.
Artsketch
Hi Dan C, it is really serious, no customer so far accepted work created exclusively in Affinity Designer and Photo because of the pixel brush blobs.
Markio
Hi @Artsketch, Do you have a small sample, I am curious how that looks. I think I know what you are talking about. When using vector brushes I get annoying hooks, I can sort of workaround those by using a short rope stabilizer. But it doesn't work great. And just tried it for the pixel brush a short rope stabilizer sort of solves the blobs, I think. BUT drawing gets more 'viscous' (couldn't think of a better word). If this occur, and you are using Apple Pencil with dynamics, I think the problem is more related to Apple internal software for the Pencil then Affinity Photo itself... When your Pencil landing in the surface it get recorded a higher pressure then the acual line (if your blobs are at the beginning?)... I can simulate this (start-blobs), but I never gotten any blobs at the end of the line when tested Ink brushes... Sure this occurs with all brushes using Apple Pencil pressure sensitivity. Other apps on iPad using Apple Pencil pressure sensitivity like Photoshop, Fresco, Sketch, Concepts, Procreate, Sketch Book, Artstudio Pro, Art Set don’t have this blob issue. So it isn’t Apples fault. Markio

Luovatone
Hi, I can confirm that this serious Pressure Blob Bug problem only happen on iPads IOS and exists in both Affinity Photo & Affinity Designer. I attached a small video, which show how annoying it is and makes impossible to make clean dynamic lines. Brush Blob problem is not so obvious if you only paint or not use large scale brush size dynamics. I think that this same Pressure Blob problems is already squashed in Desktops versions of Affinity Products, but not IOS yet. BTW. There is a still canvas rotation problem when using flat shaped brush tip - Flat brush tip follows canvas rotation :( This makes canvas rotation useless when using anything other than perfectly round brushes. https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/92429-canvas-rotation-and-brush-nozzle-rotation-with-dynamics-angle-tilt-control-bug/ Reported this along long.. time ago. I really hope that these bugs get solved because these affects greatly to drawing experience. How is your global pressure curve? Your brush strokes don’t have much width variation at all. Try more pressure variation with higher brush width or zoom to make details visible. Luovatone
Hi, here is another video clip about the Affinity's Brush engine Pressure Blob problem. (very slow video, sorry) There is also Clip Studio Paint demo with very same pressure dynamic profile. @AffinityMakesMeSmile - Please try to use more pressure dynamics with brushes and more global brush size. Because with some settings this problem is not so obvious, but it is still there hiding. I have tested this with latest Affinity Designer and Affinity Photo 1.8.3 with iPad Air 3, iPad mini 5, iPad Pro 12.9" (1st gen), iPad 2018 (6th gen) and all behave same. Thanks, and hopely this get fixed.... ..... soon.
