  1. Thanks to StudioLink and Designer/Photo Personas, APublisher is sufficient for most tasks - no need to launch or use Edit in... to switch to ADesigner or APhoto. Therefore, I would direct all Affinity file extensions (*.afpub/afdesign/afphoto) to APublisher (open with double click in File Explorer). It would be great if when APublisher was launched, it would switch to the appropriate Personas, based on the extension of the file being opened.
  2. If you had Affinity V1 installed when running Affinity V2 for the first time you would have been given the option to import your custom content from Affinity V1 into Affinity V2. Along with the automatic migration option, Affinity V2 can now link custom content such as Adjustments, Assets, Brushes etc... between all Affinity V2 apps on the same device. For example, brushes imported into Affinity Photo 2 can now be linked to appear in the Pixel Persona in Affinity Designer 2 and the Photo Persona in Affinity Publisher 2. Unfortunately, due to this new content linking feature you will notice that any custom content you have in the Designer and Photo personas in Affinity Publisher will not automatically migrate to the Designer and Photo personas in Affinity Publisher 2. You will have to manually migrate this content by Exporting from the Designer and Photo Personas in Affinity Publisher and importing into the relevant Affinity V2 app.
  3. Any Distortion, Warp, or Perspective distort features soon? This year? Any date release? I need to know if I need to change apps. What is everyone else doing to get around not having Distortion or Perspective distorts in Affinity Designer? Any tips?
  4. I would like to request that the numeric keys, which are used to set the opacity of an object by default, become available for editing within the keyboard shortcuts section of the preferences. The reason for this is that these keys are very accessible, which is the reason I would like to use them to toggle between Photo's personas and edit inside of Photo/ Designer. Unfortunately though, some shortcuts will override the opacity shortcuts and others won't. This causes inconsistencies as discussed here:
  5. So, I'm in Publisher. Click on Photo/Designer persona icons...and this happens (see image). Problem is...both are updated to 1.10.
  6. Perhaps I am doing something wrong. I have a document in Affinity Publisher on a large monitor, under separated mode. When I switch to the Designer persona, the separated studios (menus) disappear, and yet, they still appear selected under the View/Studio menu. Is anyone else experiencing this? Is it something I do not have setup correctly? Or is it a genuine bug?
  7. I love the Designer and Photo persona switch on Publisher. I believe there was a missed opportunity though. Designer has the pixel persona. When switching to Designer from Publisher, how about adding a smaller button under the designer button for the pixel interface? Same for Photo button and the liquify, tone map, develop personas. Add small buttons under it when switched as well. Just a couple suggestions.
  8. Hi, I am trying out Affinity Photo at this point and I am confused about the following: I am under the impression that the Develop Persona is only for RAW files. If that is so, how come there is a Develop extension for the OS X Photo app which I have used successfully to work on TIFF and JPEG flies? Does that mean that I can also use the Develop Persona in Affinity to work on JPEG or TIFF files? If so, is there be any advantage in doing that? Moreover, if you are working on a RAW file in Affinity, do you necessarily need to edit the photo first in the Develop Persona before you can edit it in the Photo Persona? Thanks in advance for your help with this question.
  9. Hi I'm trying Affinity Paint as a less money-rapacious alternative to the Photoshop that I've been using for 20 years, and I hope you can help me with some trivial issues I'm having For starters I can't make sense of the way that the panels work. I'm trying to use layers to paint adjustments onto an underlying image (masking, de-saturating irrelevant areas etc), but I can't even get that far All I want is to have the painting tools and the layers panel visible at the same time. But the painting tools are only visible in Photo persona and the layers, bizarrely, are only visible in the Export persona (is there any possible reason for that?). The problem doesn't even arise in Photoshop because (a) it doesn't have the added overhead and confusion of personas and (b) you can open any panel at any time and put it wherever you want. I have no doubt that there'a a perfectly simple answer, but I can't find it i the help or tutorials, so maybe some kind person can politely explain why I'm being such an idiot? Thanks J Affinity Photo 1.6.11, Mac 10.14.1
  10. I find that I am unable to activate the Vector and Photo personas in Publisher even though I have the latest versions of Designer and Photo both of which are paid up and registered programmes. As I am new to this forum I would appreciate any advice.
  11. Running AF on Mac,High Sierra, user interface will not toggle on or off when opening image. Happened whilst working on HRD Beach tutorial from photobook. Tried restarting system also deleting Application and reinstalling from App Store to no avail.
  12. Hi there,, I bought an iPad Pro for photo editing while on the road. I take RAW photos, and am very pleased that Affinity Photo can import and develop RAW photos. However, there are quite a few very basic shortcomings that outright annoy me when using Affinity Photo for a longer period of time: I do not quite understand the "persona" concept. I've been using GIMP before, and am used to having access to all commands at any time (when possible). Whenever I need to switch "personas", an annoying overlay pops up the right. Even when I have closed the navigator, history or whatever overlay before, it pops up again and obstructs the view on my picture. Which leads us to: Please save the last tool settings for later use! Whenever I switch to a new tool, I get the default settings - not the ones that I've previously selected! That is very annoying when you have to edit 50 or more photos in a row. Which leads us to: The same goes for photo export: please save the last settings! When I export a RAW picture, I would like a RGB8 PNG with no metadata embedded. This always requires lots of setting changes for each export! Also, please make it much easier to simply save a picture to the camera roll. It is not intuitive to tap "Share", and then abort the export process. Most annoying for my workflow is the crop/rotate tool - apart from the default settings coming up each every time. I can straighten the photo's horizon alright, but the problem is that only a LAYER is rotated, and not the entire photo. This makes for annoying transparent triangles on the sides, which I in turn have to crop manually (all the time having to select "Original aspect ratio" instead of "Unconstrained"). Please make a rotate/straighten option like in instagram, where the picture is automatically cropped after rotate so no transparency remains. Thank you.
  13. I would like to be able to save an image directly from the develop/RAW persona without having to do a roundtrip through the photo persona. This would be especially great if the edits could be saved non-destructively. Some pictures don't need editing with the photo persona, this would definitely speed up my workflow for certain images.
  14. When the raw output format is set to 32-bit (HDR) format in the Assistant dialog, are there any differences in making image adjustments (exposure, brightness, colors, white balance, shadow, highlight, ... etc ..., except noise reduction) within the Develop Persona compared to Photo Persona? In other words, what are the advantages in adjusting image parameters in Develop Persona? If there is no difference, wouldn't this method be partial workaround to the histogram bug in Develop Persona?
  15. I Recently purchased Affinity photo for Windows and am starting to look through video tutorials in order to navigate and use the software. I noticed that the tutorials are all using five personas. I only have three (Draw, Pixel and Export) is there a plugin for the other two? are they not in the windows version yet? Did I download the wrong file?
  16. i've been doing more exporting images to web of late, which has seen me hopping between personas a lot more. And stewing. A lot. My reference point vis a vis slices management is FIreworks, which for all of it's many flaws, does several things reasonably well: display and editing of slices, guides and graphic elements simultaneously Export of 8 Bit PNG images with alpha transparency With AD, if I'm trying to optimise elements for better pixel level precision, or even just ensure that multiple elements are fitting multiple slices of a consistant size, there is no way to see or edit those things in one view. So I have to jump back to draw persona, nudge things a bit, maybe pull down a ruler and hope it matches slice borders, go back to export persona to view slices and see if my guesses were close, then repeat, ad infininitum. Clearly what is needed is to allow editing of elements in export persona. Oh, and 8 bit alpha PNG exports. Cheers T
  17. A few days back I was using Affinity Designer (Windows), designing a logo and modifying a pre-existing font to suit my needs when it hit me. I wanted to design my own font/fonts! I searched the web to find a program that might be good for this, but all the programs on the market didn't look too amazing. The interfaces looked clumsy, unappealing and even though I am sure that they are good, I felt as if they were limited and always needed a separate program to complement them for their lack in one area or another. In most of the videos and tutorials I watched, people tended to use Adobe Illustrator to make the letters and then import the paths into the font editor. So I thought to myself; "What if Affinity Designer would have a font editor built into it, or a stand-alone software that would have the amazing interface of Affinity Designer and its ease of use?". So my suggestion is, that it would be AMAZING to have/buy an extension for Affinity Designer to be able to edit and export fonts! I do know that it is not "just" programming an extension/add-on of that sort to Affinity, but I can't imagine it being too difficult either. I mean you have all the tools that are needed for the job and the extra "specific" tools for font editing could perhaps fit under a new persona in the upper left? A font persona. That would make Affinity even more of a killer software! It would be nice if you guys considered adding this. I mean I really like Affinity Designer and I will most likely buy it on release, but I would also love to buy a font editor from you since I know that you would make it easy and fun to work with!
  18. Hey, This week Affinity TV takes a quick look at personas in Affinity Photo and answers the question what are they? What are Personas? Allan
  19. Hey all. I should preface my question with a statement: I've never been a heavy duty Photoshop user. I've got a CC sub, and use it to finish off photos which need skin retouching and cloning. Perhaps I'd use it more if it didn't seem so daunting, with the tons of ways in which a desired effect can be achieved, and the list continues to grow in that arena. Maybe I am assuming incorrectly, but I thought that Affinity was aimed at those who were familiar with PS, but that it wasn't necessary to be, in that tutorials would cover workflow, tools, filters etc.. And for the most part, the tutorials are an interesting introduction to some of these things. But thus far, I feel that they don't do a proficient enough job at really getting to the intricate how's and why's, like I'd hope they would. I figured that new software would have very detailed tutorials, rather than at the end of each one have someone say: "If you have any questions, please go to the forums". Not sure I see the point in doing tutorials unless they're really going to show the in's and out's of tools and feature or the UI etc.. Right now, I'm struggling to comprehend the philosophy behind why there are two seemingly redundant personas. Those being "Photos" and "Develop". I mean, is there really such a great gap between what these two modules have to offer as tools, that they couldn't simply be consolidated? For example... and what really confuses me, is how you start out with a RAW photo, right.. And then, you're presented with very basic tools for adjusting exposure, white and black values, temp and cropping etc. Great, but then when I go over to the Photos persona, I'm presented with not only pretty much the same tools, but advanced versions of them as well. And the rest of the kitchen sink. Why then, should I care about making any adjustments in the Develop Persona, when I can achieve the same exact thing (and more) over in the Photos Persona? If I'm way off base, please let me know why. Sincerely. Maybe I'm being thick? Thanks much... Doug
  20. Been dabbling in the Affinity Photo Beta. I’ve been somewhat stymied by the philosophy of the workflow of personas. I’m used to Lightroom (LR), its plugins, and Photoshop. Looking forward to transferring to Affinity. However, how have some Beta users created workflows straight from RAW? Or do you work from LR processing and create Tifs to be processed in Affinity Photo Beta? Here’s where I can best be elucidated: The Affinity and Develop Personas seem to offer similar processes; but they are different—what’s the philosophy behind both? Is there some documentation (with more detail than the videos) that create a crude map of what some workflows can accomplish? Thanks in advance, Wei Chong
  21. My Affinity Designer seems to be missing its Persona buttons. Is there a setting I'm missing that makes them disappear/
  22. I have one question that may be one theme of my settings or just don't know. I use to change a lot among 3 or 4 windows within AD but now when I switch between some windows the last one changes to Export persona, so everytime I change to one window this appears in Export persona and is kind of annoying because i've to switch again to the Draw persona, so can somebody help me please. Thanks in advance.
  23. Hi, I'm working on my first drawing in AD. I enjoy using pixel and vector tools in one app especially. Because I use Photoshop for pixel work I have some thoughts about pixel persona (apologize if it was pointed somewhere). 1. When I make mask for pixel layer it is not linked to this layer (I see it above). Maybe it has some pros but I can't see them. 2. I can't invert mask. It would be great to use Cmd+I for that. 3. I can't use black and white on my mask. In Photoshop black hides and white shows. Here both show and I need to change tool to Eraser if I want to hide something. 4. I can't make mask preview (Option click in Photoshop shows mask). 5. It would be great to have options for Layers panel (with invert, make selection, show mask, hide mask etc.). 6. Can I use Space+Cmd, Space+Option to zoom in/out? It doesn't work for me (or works sometimes). Best, Greg
