  1. Windows 10 Home 1903, Photo 1.7.1.404 and Designer 1.7.1.404. As part of an experiment I (fairly randomly) found an SVG https://pixabay.com/vectors/car-black-vehicle-transport-travel-311713/ that I wanted to use but upon opening it in Photo and Designer (haven’t bothered trying Publisher) I see that it hasn’t been imported correctly. A lot of the detail is missing and there are bigger issues – see attached snapshots from Designer and Photo. It’s not a big problem for me as I can use the raster version instead but I thought I’d mention it so someone can look into it (there’s a chance that the original SVG is to blame so it might not be an Affinity problem).
  2. Hi! I am new to Affinity Designer and already have searched the internet to find an answer. The Info I found is that the measurement tool was planned years ago, but nothing to measurements in the newest release. Is there any way to measure the length of a (curved) line in the newest version? I am interested in an exact measurement in physical units (mm). Thanks!
  3. After doing the new update, I can't seem to open a new document with out the program freezing and crashing. Whether hitting 'new doc' on the opening screen or through File/New Doc it just stops working and I can't click on anything else. No error code or anything either. I have to force it to close. Anyone else have this problem or know how to fix it? Thanks
  4. I use quite an exotic language on my devices - Polish - which belongs to the quite large group of languages unsupported by Affinity. That wouldn’t actually be a problem for me if not the auto-correction feature - which is not synchronized with the system-wide auto-correction, because my system language is Polish and when using text tools Affinity always mark all my Polish words as wrong . And again that wouldn’t be a problem (until I do some orthographic mistake) because auto-correction can be easily switched off in text tool settings (Check spelling while typing) but the problem is: if I turn it off in one document, it reverts back on when I close the document and enter it, or any other again. So the result is: always when I enter a document with text I’m welcomed by unfriendly red squiggly (unless I design something English) I tried using both “English” and “Default” setting in language option in Designer’s settings. 5. I'm currently working on some UI replacements for a game in Affinity Designer. The images are not going to be very high resolution, that's why every pixel counts. My problem while being in the pixel view mode and exporting the image as png is that the lower layers bleed through on the edges and make the pixels brighter as they should be. Normal View: Pixel View: These bright pixels are very visible in-game and make them look very disrupted. It does not make any sense for me that they are brighter. How do I get rid of these pixels?
  6. Please add better stroke width control. I attempted to use Affinity Designer for complex character lineart with the pressure graph tool. Unfortunately, it works only in simple cases. When many points are added it gets incredibly fiddly to change things or to even understand which point I have to move for editing. Not to mention the pressure graph often bugging out completely in complex situations either with points merging for no reason or point not moving at all and me having to close it down and turn it back up. The current solution is simply not good enough for many complex cases. Moho Pro 12 (previously called Anime Studio Pro) has a great tool for this, simply called "line width tool". Here you can see it in action: Even Illustrator's version of this would be good to have: Just do something, please. Threads about his have been around for ages. In 2015 it was mentioned as being worked on yet it never landed. Only silence. No mentions of this improvement on the roadmap. This is such a fundamental missing feature that keeps me away from using Designer. Previous threads: 1. 2.
  7. It would be very useful to have functions to select the same: Color fill stroke (color / width) Appearance To quickly select all your outlines, or background element in 1 color. Speed is everything. :)
  8. I have not used my laptop for some time, so I allowed it to update my Windows 10 system to ver 10240. I then downloaded the latest versions of Affinity Photo and Designer. In each of these I got the message "Supported Windows Version not found. Checking with the system dialogue, It tells me I have a 64-bit operating system on a 64-bit processor. Both the old versions of Photo and Designer still work OK, but invite me to update, which I did. John
  9. I'm having a problem where text in pdf documents moves when imported into Affinity Designer (see screenshots). The issue seems to be especially bad with negative numbers or when digits have decimals before them. I have attempted selecting and deselecting the "Favor editable text over fidelity" and "Group lines of text into text frames" options and it does not seem to make a difference. Also, when importing the file, Designer tells me that the fonts used by the document are available. Is there a way to import a PDF document without the text shifting? I use Designer primarily to make small tweaks to figures and this issue makes using Designer extremely tedious as I have to fix the position of all text before exporting the document. For reference, running Affinity Designer 1.8.3 on macOS 10.15.5.
  10. Hi all, I'm considering buying Designer but one thing that I can't find is if there is a way to fill an object using vector or patterns. I only find gradients and bitmap. I know we can duplicate an object to create hand made pattern but I can't then edit the repetitions like if is a bitmap fill. Cheers, Juan
  11. I can't get Designer to save my files in any folder containing my work. Every time I click on SAVE AS, name the file, and select a location, I get the warning: "Save failed because you do not have permission to create a file in that location." We're even talking about my Documents folder. Why would I not have permission to save files in my Documents folder? Just to reassure myself, I did a Get-Info on the Document folder and, for sure, I have the permission to Read and Write to that location. Also, I can't open a .jpg created by Photo because Designer doesn't recognize the file type. Again, this is the same .jpg that caused Photo to freeze after creating and saving it. Can someone tell my what may be happening here? With freezes and failures to save and open files, I haven't been able to work for days.
  12. When working with photos/images in Affinity Designer, (with Affinity Photo installed), there should be an easy way to launch Affinity Photo (or another chosen bitmap editor) from within Affinity Designer to edit bitmap images (beyond the photo editing capability integrated into Affinity Designer). This should be available both from the right mouse context menu and the context aware bar across the top when a bitmap image is selected. With such excellent Affinity application interoperability I am surprised this has not yet been implemented. This type of integration should also be incorporated into Affinity Publisher. Another possible interface enhancement, could be to (optionally - in preferences?) replace the Affinity Designer Pixel Persona with the Affinity Photo 'Photo Persona'. If this capability were implemented, it would still be useful to include the ability to launch Affinity Photo as a bitmap editor from within Affinity Designer, as Affinity Photo provides further capability (i.e. Liquify Persona and Tone Mapping Persona). I would love the integration of the Affinity Photo 'Photo Persona' with Affinity Designer when editing bitmap images within Affinity Designer. (Considering how these applications are designed I wouldn't be shocked if such integration were technically feasible.)
  13. For example, View-> Roted Left is repeated 6 times and the canvas is rotated 90 degrees to the left. When you drag the canvas up with the View Tool, the vertical scroll bar moves down. This is no problem. However, if you move the vertical scroll bar down, the canvas moves to the left. The same applies to Photo and Publisher.
  14. When using the brush tool in Affinity apps I always get very odd brush size increments when using the square bracket ( [ ] ) keys to change the brush size. If I use a 10px brush and use "]" to size it up one increment, it doesn't go to the expected 15px, but rather to 11,5 px. And then, if I press the "[" key to size the brush back down to 10px from 11,5px, it randomly ends up at 9,8px (?). Pressing "]" three times from 9px results in 9px, 10,4px, 11,9px, and 13,7px, instead of the expected 9px, 10px, 15px, and 20px values. I find this a bit strange, as I feel that decimal pixel values for brush sizes make little to no difference, and it's just generally odd that using the square brackets to change brush sizes doesn't just use rounded increments - I hate mentioning Photoshop as a reference example, but if if ain't broke... For instance, using the brackets between the values 1px and 10px should only change the brush size in increments of 1px (1,2,3,4,5px...), anything between 10px and 50px should change in increments of 5px (10, 15, 20, 25, 30px...), anything between 50px and 100px should change in increments of 10px (50, 60, 70, 80, 90px...), anything between 100px and 200px should change in increments of 25px (100, 125, 150, 200px), then 50px, and anything above 300px should change in increments of 100px every time you press the square bracket(s). Is there a significance to these weird, decimal pixel increment values? If so, is there a way to change it back to something more normal/user friendly?
  15. is there a way to save gradients to the swatch pallet ? i can save colors. thanks
  16. While using vector brushes in Affinity Designer, if I change brushes, I change the brush size as well. I understand that every brush may have been set up with an ideal size by its creator. I even understand that saving the last brush size used for every single brush in the palette may get cumbersome memory wise. I just find it a bit obstructive that if I use Vector Brush A at a size of 9pt, I change to Vector Brush B for a second, just out of curiosity or by accident(!), I select Vector Brush A again, and its size has defaulted to 2.3pt, or some other random number that isn’t where I left it. The feature I’m requesting: either leave the brush size where I left it between brush changes, or save the last size used with each brush, or let me set the default size for each brush under the “More” menu at the bottom of the screen. Even if all the brush sizes ran back to their respective defaults when I close the document, I could live with that. I would just like to be able to touch Pencil to screen and go, rather than have to adjust the Vector Brush Size each and every time I make a minor tool change.
  17. as stated above, the Vector Brushes very sluggish PC designer latest version. NOT BETA. I have to wait 3 -5 minutes for Designer to stop taking ram. Then the brushes drawing is a bit smoother, but very sluggish. This seems to be getting worse with every release. This is happening with supplied brushes and third party. My machine is fast, Threadripper, 64GB of ram, 2080 Super, 4K. No reason what so ever for this to be lagging. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Also when is GPU acceleration going to happen on the PC? Gary
  18. Good Evening Team, Right now I am trying to create a brand mark in Affinity Designer. I have my art board open and I have a simple brand mark in black placed on the art board against a white background. The brand mark has very crisp edges and I want to soften them, so I have added a heavy Gaussian blur to the brand mark layer. Here is the issue. - I want to use the threshold filter on the brand mark layer to round out the edges of the Gaussian blur effect. When I try to apply the threshold filter adjustment on the brand mark it doesn't change the sharpness of the image at all. - If I promote the threshold filter above the mark to a new layer I can change the sharpness... this is all great but shouldn't the filters affect the layers they are on? - Also, if I successfully apply this technique to a brand in black and white I am not able to change the color of the black mark to anything else. - I need to be able to apply these filters to weather and soften the brand mark and then convert the new mark to a path and fill object that can be manipulated on its own. Is there anyway to do this? Hopefully, the images I have attached show the step by step process I'm trying to use to achieve and where I get stuck. Thanks, Dave
  19. I'm loving this program! However, I am creating patterns that are too large for one page and I only have a printer that goes to legal size paper. I'm hoping there is a way to have designer print across multiple pages. Then, I will line up the pages using a light box, tape them together and proceed. I have searched forums and help to no avail. Perhaps I just don't know the right terms to search for. Any help appreciated.
  20. I was wondering if a dimension tool is in the works for Designer. Something that designers/architects can use to label and indicate dimensions on drawings. For example, features such as CADTools ( a plug-in for illustrator), or the dimension tools in iDraw. I think such a tool will be a fantastic addition because I'm an architect and I think all designers of physical objects will probably appreciate it. But overall, I was wondering if such a tool was part of the planned future features roadmap. Best, Jawad Altabtabai
  21. This applies to both Publisher and Designer. Publisher 1.8.3.641 on Win 10. If I add a stroke outline to text, weird things happen as I increase the stroke weight. The outline/halo ends up with lots of holes in it, particularly at high stroke widths. Interestingly this only happens for "solid" stroke style. Some fonts are worse than others. If I change to "dotted" stroke with curved end caps then I get a solid outline, i.e. what you would expect from "solid" stroke style. Sometimes the holes in the outline disappear on PDF export, sometimes not. textoutlinetest.afpub

  23. I'm trying to re-create the brush I used in Illustrator which was just a simple round brush with a smooth, round end. I have one in Affinity that looks exactly like my Illustrator brush, except that when I draw the end of the line is jagged. I've attached some pictures to explain what I mean. The black line was drawn in Illustrator, the blue in Affinity Designer. What I did to make the blue brush was went into the ink brushes and made a new one and it automatically gave me one with round edges. But when I draw it gives me those uneven edges. I'm assuming it has something to do with the fact that I'm in the ink brush section, but I'm super new to Affinity and not sure how to fix this.
  24. Hey guys, There is actually only one thing missing for me in AD. But thats a big one, especially as it speed up my process immensly since it was introduced in AI. I'm talking about the notorious Shape builder tool. Of course you could make something else, that increases the speed of boolean operations. :-) (idk, shortcuts maybe?) Thank you in advance, Felix
  25. Any ideas why this is? I can't work it out. Affinity_Help.mov
