  1. Hello! I am having a curious problem with typefaces in both Designer and publisher, which is that a particular font (Akzidenz Grotesk BQ regular) never shows. It shows alright in Photoshop, MS word, and also correctly installed in the font directory (windows 10). In fact, when I open the character tab, I have a "bold", and two "medium" fonts (the two medium are the same) and no "regular". The same panel in photoshop shows "bold", "medium" and "regular". (postscript OTF) Is it a known bug or something I have missed? The typeface/fonts comes from Berthold website (bought there) so not likely to be corrupted. I have attached a couple of screenshots Thanks a bunch...
  2. Hello Everyone, Well, i maybe missing something but i can't Zoom in and Out on ADesigner since the last beta install. Tried to reset stuffs in there but nothing does... Well it is something i use a lot on projects ... like i said maybe i'm missing something here on how to get it working again. Please instruct me and if it is a Bug of the new beta, please advice for a workaround. Blessings !
  3. Hello! I am almost 99.99% sure this doesn't exist but I could be wrong (and in that case feel free to move the topic and give me a good tsk tsk tsk) There is a function in PS that I use ALL-THE-TIME and it's called "layer comps". It's the ability to export automatically a certain configuration of layers. One of the best examples I could give is when you have a product with 50+ colour changes and you want a PNG (or Jpeg or whatever) in each of the colour. It would be way counter-intuitive to take the one colour, hide all the other colour layers, save and then repeat 49 by hand What you do is record the hide/visible status of each layer (other parameters are available) and create a new "layer comp". When you're done, you run the "export layer comps to files" and you make yourself a cup of tea (with a hobnob, preferably). Now maybe it's possible in Affinity Photo (I don't own it) and I am talking now about designer... What gives? I think it would be a great idea as well for when you have a document which stays the same except for example a bit of text, or a bar-code or just a colour swatch. I never had to use it in Illustrator because I always found the layer handling in illustrator so sh*tt* that I always used alternative ways to do it anyway. (think the same design but where the text is translated in many languages for a packaging and where you need a file per language for example) Now with the fabulous "export persona" available, I think it would be a wonderful addition to the Affinity workflow, and I am sure I wouldn't be the only one to use it. I could be that you could export automatically groups for example (visible groups only) or at a layer level, I don't know if that makes any difference.... If there is a way to do it that didn't found, I'd be happy to hear it (It would be great for generating PDFs for example!) Thanks y'all!
  4. Hello everyone, I really love Export Persona in Affinity Designer - I work a lot with several image sizes for social networks, so I made up a template with several slices, one for each of my usual "destinations". I've found that I can easily put slice name and sizes in exported image file name, and this helps me a lot when exporting several slices, and it's really great. Do you know if there's a way to put current Affinity Designer file name in the exported image file name? Or, as an alternative, is there a way to set "global" user variables, that I can automatically put in file names when I export slices? thanks in advance, gerlos
  5. WIndows 10 Home (1803), Designer I've just noticed that a thick dashed stroke doesn't seem to be rotated/skewed/sheared (or whatever) properly when fitted to an Isometric plane. See attached image where the versions are - from left to right - fitted to Top, Side, and Front (afdesign document also attached). Notice the shapes of the ends of the dashes; they don't fit with the rectangle. Workflow to reproduce: * New document; * Create black rectangle; * Create thick dashed line, with a butt or square cap (so it's easier to see); * Put dashed line within the rectangle layer; * Open Isometric studio (and create grid if necessary); * Select the Top plane; * Press "Fit to plane". dotted stroke on isometric plane.afdesign
  6. I thought I'd share this greyscale digital mosaic with you all. It took ages to make and has 1829 pieces in it - no brushes used. Tough to get the tiles looking realistic but I'm happy with the way it turned out. It's an illustration for a book I'm currently writing. Image quality has been reduced for fast loading.
  7. WIndows 10 Home (1803), Designer A cog shape, when rotated doesn't seem to be rotated/skewed/sheared (or whatever) properly when fitted to an Isometric plane. See attached image where the top-left example is a non-rotated cog over a same sized square and the bottom-left example is a rotated cog over a same sized square. The examples on the right are the examples on the left after fitting to a Top Isometric plane. Notice that the bottom-right cog is the wrong shape. I think you can guess what the exact workflow to reproduce is but I have attached the afdesign file. Try duplicating the two left-hand-bottom shapes and placing them on the Top Isometric plane. If you have both shapes selected together they are placed correctly, but if you try and place them separately the cog comes out wrong; the attached GIF also shows the problem.

    My work

Hi! My work in Affinity Designer, feedback is welcome
  10. I was wondering if it was possible to warp text in Designer. I attached an image with what I am trying to accomplish.
  11. Hi, there. I would like advice from those who have already had professional experience with printing from Affinity. I'm working with the noise effect/filter on Affinity, on a file at 300dpi for a 1:1 print scale. What is the lowest value of the noise that I can use to be visible in print? And, vice versa, is there a very high value that disturbs printing? Thanks so much!
  12. Hey everyone! It would be great if there was an option to lock and unlock all children (may be groups themselves) of a group. While I posted this in the Designer for iPad subforum, this could be very helpful in the other versions of Affinity software as well. Personally, I just think it's most useful in Designer, since the number of objects and layers can add up quite a lot. Best wishes, Shu
  13. When exporting a vector image to SVG, Designer appears to add hundreds of points to a path that aren't there when editing, causing the exported file to balloon many times the size as one exported from illustrator. For example, the Twitter logo contains 20 points on the path in Designer, but after exporting as a SVG it balloons to 1,554 points! Is there anyway to tell Designer to not add points, and to respect the original layout? This is holding me back from dumping Adobe Illustrator completely, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Mike

    Font List Locks Designer

I just updated Affinity Designer to v1.6.1 in the 'App Store'. I'm using macOS 10.13.3. Once I attempt to change/choose fonts by clicking the drop down list, Affinity Designer locks up. I've even disabled all User fonts (just in case). I've even uninstalled/reinstalled the app.
  15. I am trying to save my document that I've put a lot of work into, but now it won't let me save it. I have tried saving it in various locations and names and get this same (attached) error. I have plenty of storage space on my laptop and am not using any external drives. I have tried simply creating a new file and copying the layers, but it still won't save the document. I am able to export the documents, which I have done, but I do not want to lose the source document. Another interesting thing, I saw that it is somehow saving the document though it tells me it isn't. But, when I try to open it, it says it is already open. So, I tried to duplicate the document and save that, got the error about it couldn't be saved but noted that it still "saved" something to my desktop. So, I closed the duplicate file and tried to open the "saved" file and still got the error that the file was already open. For reference, I am on a Macbook Air.
  16. I have text on a flyer which contains umlaute. AD displays it correct. After export into a PDF the umlaute are replaced by a functional char (see attachment original and result). Of course I can rasterize all the text, but I don't want it in this case. I attached a printscreen from the export configuration as well. Thanks
  17. Hey guys......so I was working on my new course...and got the the lesson on making brushes.....sooooo I had to amek some brushes. I made a set of fog/ smoke brushes in raster and a set of silky smooth stroke brushes for your vector applications. I have learned so much from the people on the site....I wanted to give back, so here ya go . I am working on new blog post and some new art using them....so I will keep you in the loop Feedback on them is always appreciated, I love making these sorts of tools Jeremy , www.7thseasonstudios.com Stroke brushes -7th season studios .afbrushes Smoke and fog brushes -7th season studios.afbrushes
  18. Hi everyone, I made a document on Designer for iPad that contains text and vector shapes. When I export the document as a PDF, I end up with a flat image. I tried to export the entire things as a SVG to keep the vectors but same result. Do you know how this could be solved? (I’m looking for a solution similar to Sketch) Thanks!
  19. Hello everyone ! Today i want to ask a question that can lead to something interesting for the Affinity suite (Publisher - Designer and Photo). Well, we have all seen the recent updates and some brought satisfaction when other just brought tears but ... that's not my point here ! Just wanted to know : How will you feel if Serif comes up with a Home Persona or a Home Button ? I'm asking because personally it would be very helpful to be able to see actual working/worked on or simply opened/created project on its specific section. I've had hard time to find recent projects etc ... well i make use of the recently opened stuff or recent documents (whatever it is called)... it's good but it's not enough and dedicated place where i would be able to view miniatures of recent documents (i would limit this to .Af files only - no other format) and just click it to open it knowing what i"m opening. if i'm not wrong it is possible on the iPad version (someone to correct me here if needed) so why not on the desktop version and the current Beta Cycle is the best season to test it. Blessings !
  20. Hi, is it possible this part of the screen to be used for changing the measurement units instead in Preferences?
  21. Hey everyone! When adding to selection, Designer for iPad does not take group levels into account. For example, when trying to select "Shape 1" and "Shape 3" from the following tree: Group 1 Shape 1 Shape 2 Group 2 Shape 3 Shape 4 , Designer for macOS would select exactly those. Designer for iPad, however, selects "Shape 1" and "Group 2". Also, there seems to be no "Add to selection" for Photo for iPad at all. Would be great if you could add that at some point. Best wishes, Shu
  22. Hello everyone, From today i believe i have to start sharing few of our design works (actually i'm working alone but i do build a team from time to time depending on project size ) Most of our client/requesters are Church based and we really enjoy doing stuffs for them but what you will se here is more about Smarty Studio standing with other studio/teams together into what is to become Congolese Design Style. Well each country have it's own style of design but Congo doesn't have a proper thus most of Congolese designers simply clone/copy styles from everywhere. This is a beginning, please your inputs on each design palet/kit will be of great help and will help us improving better. Blessings !
  23. I’ve loaded a new ttf font (from Dafont.com) - it shows up in word processor app, and Profiles, does not appear in iPad Designer or Photo fonts list. I’ve loaded many fonts from this source, never had this problem. I’ve restarted apps, I rebooted pad, deleted profile and reinstalled - no help.
  24. I've been working all day on a project when I opened another eps file. I wanted to see if I could grab a part of that design to add to mine in progress. Before I started to alter it, I hit save. For some reason, it did not save but instead crashed and shut down the whole program. I figured I wouldn't lose much and it would recover when it reopened. That is the way almost all of my other graphics programs work. But it didn't offer a recover option. In fact, after it didn't I looked around to see what the save interval was set to. It looks like there is a save set to 300 seconds. So if it is auto saving. Where is my file? Why didn't the program offer to recover it? I got a white text box just before the program shut itself down that said it got an exception error and it would give me something - details? But it didn't do that either. So I don't know what made it crash or if I am going to have to give up on the project I was doing since it would take me too long to recreate it all. Yes, I did save a part way done version but the last bit I did was really fiddly and not sure it is worth my time to redo at this point.
  25. OK, I'm very aware that maybe most of the designers and users of the awesome Affinity Designer are not into scientific posters, books or documents, but I'm a mathematician and I love the app myself, as much as I understand and use it. :) Hence, I got a small, but important feature request: a plugin/native support which would allow one to use the power of "local" LaTeX typesetting for symbols, fonts and other scientific notations. I am aware I could use the great LaTeXiT + drag & drop, but still, I envision my workflow as follows: When I have a complicated figure to draw, I fire up Affinity Designer and I draw, but for annotations and everything font or math symbol related, I'm not quite covered. I have installed some versions of the native LaTeX fonts (CMU) to use system-wide, but some are missing and still doesn't feel the same. So for symbols, equations etc. I would like to be able to input a LaTeX formula (delimited by the well-known dollar-signs) and Affinity would typeset it locally, using the fonts included in the LaTeX distribution installed on my Mac. What do you think? Honestly, I think that such a feature would be useful for all kinds of technical drawers, although they may use CAD-style apps. But you'll never know when you need a formula on your piece of art, right? :) Moreover, in perspective, I'm sure this would provide immensely useful for the future Publisher app, with inter-operability. Thank you for the support and the awesome apps!
