  1. I'm working on web design a lot and I love Affinity Designer. This week I had to create an icon (favicon to be precise), which I obviously designed in Designer. So far so good, but there seem to be no way of exporting an image as *.ico. Are there any plans for adding support for ico files?
  2. Greetings fellow Affini-types I'd like to ask a question about the functionality of both Designer and Photo .. I frequently use both of these programs to create frames that I later make into animations. As such, creating each file in the scene, I name them sequentially like "Filename 1", "Filename 2" and so on. When revisiting the files to edit later, I like to grab a bunch of the files and double click them all to open them as a set. The current, and rather odd functionality that I'd like to avoid is this: If I open up 6 files, named "xx 7.png", "xx 8.png", "xx 9.png", "xx 10.png", "xx 11.png", "xx 12.png", the order that the tabs open up is a complete jumble, for example just now I opened the same list of files, and the order Designer opened them was: "10, 8, 12, 11, 9, 7". With only 6 files, this is not a huge task to correct, but when opening 25 or 30 files at a time, and also doing this several times per hour, it's really cumbersome to have to go and reshuffle the tabs around so I can step through them easily in a sequential fashion. I would like to ask if this is possible in the current release of Designer and Photo, and if so, how? If this isn't currently possible, I'd like to request that this is added as a new improvement, as it would make my particular work flows much more efficient. I use multiple tabs within Safari windows in a similar fashion, and would suggest that Affinity could possibly twin Safari's Tab behaviour to make it easier to navigate between the currently open tabs. Safari's key-command "Command+Shift+(RightArrow)" and "Command+Shift+(LeftArrow)" makes a nice addition as a method to skip right or left across the tabs as well. These sequences fall easily at hand with a laptop keyboard and is familiar to Safari users. I think the above would make a dandy addition to these two truly world-class pieces of software. Please let me know if anyone can help.

Penguin - How to soften edges?

This is the first thing I've attempted in Designer. It's bad. I don't know what I'm doing yet. I know. Okay, baby steps. So first thing I am wondering how to do is regarding where the body and wing meet on the right. Right between them is a hard edge. Both the body and wing are different layers. What are methods I can use to just soften the edge between the two? In a non-vector paint program I guess I'd just use a brush and blur that part with a soften tool. Should I somehow copy just that vertical curve (just that portion) into a different layer (but grab a few pixels on each side), then do a Gaussian blur on that layer? Or is there some way to copy just that area into a pixel layer, use pixel persona and then use the raster tools (blur) to blur the area? I'm talking above my knowledge and experience here, but if you point me in the right direction I'll research how to do it.
  4. Hello everyone, From today i believe i have to start sharing few of our design works (actually i'm working alone but i do build a team from time to time depending on project size ) Most of our client/requesters are Church based and we really enjoy doing stuffs for them but what you will se here is more about Smarty Studio standing with other studio/teams together into what is to become Congolese Design Style. Well each country have it's own style of design but Congo doesn't have a proper thus most of Congolese designers simply clone/copy styles from everywhere. This is a beginning, please your inputs on each design palet/kit will be of great help and will help us improving better. Blessings !
  5. UPDATE: SOLVED! I looked over the log files myself (I was only dimly aware of them as a useful thing before yesterday evening). I found an error message within. "...OpenWithProgids Verify that you have sufficient access to that key" It turned out I didn't, so I fixed that, and have successfully installed both Designer and Photo. Not only can I now work with the lovely Affinity toys, I can troubleshoot, too. Cheers! Hi, I've been trying off and on to install Designer (and Photo) to my Windows 10 computer, with no luck. I've read the forums and applied these successful-for-others fixes so far: Clean boot Create admin account to try install. Nope. Runtime Update (did that) Making sure I'm running 64 bit Windows: Yes, I am. Make sure of .NET version. Yes. Ran troubleshooter, checked compatibility settings, tried running in various compatibility modes, all failed. The troubleshooter said that Affinity Designer 1.6.5.135 is incompatible. I have DirectX 12, and Windows 10 Pro, 16GB RAM, Intel CORE i7, 160 GB free of disk space on a Cintiq Companion 2. Help! I LOVE Designer on the ipad Pro, I want to use it and Photo on my PC!
  6. Anyone having an issue with export function not saving the entire image? Everytime I export this image it's only partial. The body of the snake is a vector object with holes subtracted to allow the mint color to show through, and a mask layer placed on top to contain the galaxy image appearing between/around the subtracted circles. When I open the file most of the subtracted scales (circles) are missing. I've checked the fills, opacity, etc nothing is wrong. Is it a bug or am I doing some thing wrong? It does this no matter what type of export file I use. The first is the image as it appears before export, the second is what happens after when I try to open it in another application/view the file. halp?
  7. I'm trying to draw this tree (PSD attached) and you can see that the branches and dark grey area are clipped into the orange layer. I used a vector brush stroke to create the branches and after I export them to Photoshop, they're rasterized. Is it because of the masking or is it because it's a stroke? Also, not sure why the dark grey area rasterized as well. Are there other ways I could have done this differently? Sorry if it's not my best description - I'm just confused. Untitled (1).psd
  8. Dear all, I am quite a newbie to photo editing and Affinity Photo. But after a Udemy Course and hours of searching tutorials, I got stuck on one topic :) The problem: I took a product photo of my watch for my online shop and have many reflections on the polished metal of the bezel. You can see fingers from me triggering the camera on the reflection of the bezel and also some spots on the bezel are overexposed, but nevertheless, I like this shot. My questions is: Is it possible to achieve a polished metal effect with any tool and retexture the bezel of my watch? I want to achieve a reflection as on the attached image. I am looking forward to your help!

  10. Hi, In my work I often use isometric 2:1 grids. In Ai I used to create them myself and was very interested in the isometric grids in Ad, but the spacing does not work unfortunately, making it completely useless. Example: I created a grid with a 5mm spacing and draw a few guides with 5mm spacing. All the grid crossings should line-up with the guides. Hope this gets fixed, this was one of the reasons i bought Ad, together with the promised Mesh fill tool and Mesh warp/distort tool ;)
  11. Hello! I have been using Affinity Publisher for the past week to create a brochure. I used Affinity Publisher for all of the text and used Affinity Designer for all of the images. In Designer I created 8 dartboards, 1 for each page. In Publisher, added a picture frame to each page. I then select which artboard/page I want for the background in the booklet. When I make changes in Designer, I open Resource Manger and update all of the images. (Hopefully this will changed to happen automatically). However, when I do so, it reverts each background/picture frame to the first artboard in the Designer file. I then have to go back through each page in Publisher and tell it which page/artboard to pull from Designer. Am I doing something wrong or is this a bug? Thanks!

I'd love to share these original Affinity Designer files to get these images in the Samples that load up every time I boot up Affinity Designer. I really think that my artwork could help people see the commercial value that Affinity Designer has.
  13. When you try to open via File > Open ... a document, which is already expanded as an embedded document from inside another document, it doesn't work. For example ... you have a document1 with an embedded other document2 inside you expand the embedded document2 from document1 so it appears in an own file tab as <embedded> now you try to "open" the usual way via "File > open" document2 ... ... that doesn't work, it won't open document2 here as far as it is already expanded from document1 in an <embedded> tab. But since the embedded document is just an internal copy here and no reference to an external file (it's no external file link reference), there is no reason not to open it also as a document file. It looks like the software treats it in this case (when the embedded file copy is expanded) as the external doc file might be already open. BTW, the opposite way, opening document1 and document2 first the usual way via File > Open ... and then expanding the embedded document2 from document1 works instead. Behaves in both Designer and Photo this way!

    Caricature in Designer, Raster

Here is my first foray into Affinity Designer. I must say I was impressed with the capabilities of the raster side of the program.
  15. Hi...I have some questions as I've been learning ADesign..... I've made some styles, using "create style" button. They are saving as an afdesign file and not a stdesign. How do I change this? I've been opening objects from photoshop in psd format and selecting a style from there then try to save the object highlighted. It has saved two styles that are simple. It saved a couple styles that came up blank. And it didn't do anything for the other objects I opened. Is this a bug because I know I'm doing it correctly and I do see the pop up if the style is glitter. Do any of the boards on the screen move? Like the layer effects, swatches, brushes, etc.? Can they be separated? What is the difference between styles and text styles? Can I change the main transparency color to white or black, but it still continues to be a transparency? When I create an object, the line around the object is much bigger that the objects...how can I save it so the line is closer? Sorry for all the questions...I'm still learning and I've watched a bunch of videos, but I didn't find answers to these questions. Thank you! In this screen it shows the styles...three of them are blank. Why are they saving like this? Thanks
  16. Hello Everyone ! Hello Team ! Today i'm coming with this clear suggestion: Could Serif start making (and inviting) peoples and users to live webinar or YouTube Live which will be more organized like Masterclasses ? What's the point for this ? Well, in fact it is not bad to have short courses or content like the one we see and have on the respective YouTube channels (Photo, Designer and Publisher) but when it comes to really practical way of all this ... it gets really complicated i mean, if i want to achieve a project using APhoto and i want to process some massive Dodge and Burning (the Affinity way) but in the same time i don't know about layers and what they are used for, then i will be tempted to work in a really destructive way with almost Zero possibility to recover. So to fix that, the better will be that i attend a Masterclass/Webinar which Topic will be Layers and where i will learn not only about layers but about most of creative and most needed operations that can be done using layers (dodge and burning included). A 1h long with 3 or 4 examples is enough and then i will ask question about that precise topic and get answers. This will make people progress really fast, drop the pressure level in the forum and make every people who really are invested to progress together and deliver good or simply much better. The Masterclass can also be the opportunity to have those people you are presenting on Spotlight to not only talk about this and that but come connect with Affinity community though a Webinar/Masterclass for a 1h long sharing. There are many things that can become a Masterclass topic, from Text to Paragraph to Adjustment Layers etc. Also Webinar/YouTube live Masterclass can be the very place to showcase the current Beta through kind of 30min. Okay ! here is toom much line of text. I leave it here for everyone to read and bring necessary inputs, the idea is global but only the community can refine it. Blessings
  17. I can't seem to get fat/thins line to work with my Wacom Tablet. Can anyone point me in the right direction please? Does Designer use the pressure sensitivity of a Wacom in the current release? Thanks
  18. Hi, all, A sample from something i've been working on for the last month. A drawing made from a rather poor cell phone camera shot. Knowing the guy, I liked the expression from the photo as he sat outside on a cool day in the sunlight. The colors are based on those that might have been used up to 500 years ago. Ochre, green earth, indigo, azurite mixed w. chalk. Sort of an illustration for a short story.
  19. It would be very useful to have functions to select the same: Color fill stroke (color / width) Appearance To quickly select all your outlines, or background element in 1 color. Speed is everything. :)
  20. Hey guys......so I was working on my new course...and got the the lesson on making brushes.....sooooo I had to amek some brushes. this software is awesome!!! I just wait for adjustments in the part of the booleans when separating curves with miter
  22. I was wondering if a dimension tool is in the works for Designer. Something that designers/architects can use to label and indicate dimensions on drawings. For example, features such as CADTools ( a plug-in for illustrator), or the dimension tools in iDraw. I think such a tool will be a fantastic addition because I'm an architect and I think all designers of physical objects will probably appreciate it. But overall, I was wondering if such a tool was part of the planned future features roadmap. Best, Jawad Altabtabai
  23. Please see attached file. The rotation snap (drag while holding shift) is erroneous. I created a right-angled triangle (red in the attached file) with the catheter lenghts 1 and 2 respectively. This gives offcourse 30 degree [sin (1/2)] angle in the top of the triangle. But, if I rotate some thing (blue rectangle in the attached file) while holding down shift key (i.e. two 15 degree snaps) the angle is about 33.5 degrees and not 30 degrees. This is a major bug that needs to be resolved quickly. I have the latest designer version, running windows 10. This bug is propably also present in the photo (and upcoming Publisher) versions? /Mattias Affinity-bug.afdesign
  24. Hi, please, add comtrol points to the "Rectangle" and "Elipse" shapes to get even more control. Beside rounding corners on the rectangle with a control point (no need of extra "rounded rectangle" tool) we could do the following: draw any kind of shape; make any number of segments with additional control point; control the length of the segments with another control point; now we can convert to curve this object and add different types of arrows (when they will be available) on the each end of the curve (or on the both) and/or; we can apply any type of stroke (whey they will be available, of course) not only of this kind of curves, but on the lines too.
  25. Just discovered (damn I use that box so seldom) so it's probably already known, but just for completness I'll file it in here then again ... Even when the whole main window is horizontal resized, the box stays like that in the German localized UI, so that the dropdown box handle is always partly hidden and thus not really visable.
